It's the battle of terrible first impressions!

Be sure to vote on both questions. You can change your vote if needed. After you vote, consider posting your thoughts on which will be the most and least successful game, and why you think that's the case. Before you vote, keep some facts in mind:

Splitgate: Arena Reloaded:

People loved Splitgate 1. With the sequel, developers took away many of the arena shooter elements and classic Halo feel, changed the game from 6 vs 6 to 4 vs 4, added factions (hero shooter elements), limited weapon choice into preset loadouts, and added a battle royale mode. The new version of Splitgate will still be free to play, and still be 4 vs 4, but it has removed factions and largely returned to feeling more like the arena shooter that was the original game. Many other aspects of the game have been reworked and improved as well. Will that be enough, though?

Highguard:

A new Hero shooter being made by many of the developers behind Apex Legends and Titanfall 2. Had a disastrous game reveal with a vague trailer that only hinted at anything that might make the game interesting, unique, or fun. Also free to play. But for all the bad publicity, it's still a huge amount of publicity. Will that result in people trying it for themselves? Will former respawn developer talent ultimately result in a fun game that people enjoy?

Marathon:

Delayed after a largely negative reception to the closed alpha test, along with a copyright theft situation that probably required a lot of unplanned extra work. It's now being previewed again, focusing on a darker tone and many improvements made since the Alpha, including adding proximity chat. Marathon will not be free to play. It will be sold for 40 dollars, much like the wildly successful Arc Raiders. But will interest in Arc Raiders lead to more success for a new game in the genre, or will players want to stick with the game they're already playing? Did Bungie do enough to improve the game after the alpha, and will that lead to an actual success?

I think Marathon will have the highest initial numbers because Bungie and Sony do a pretty good job at marketing and the name "Bungie" still carries some weight. But I believe that in the long-term, either Highguard ot Splitgate will have a significantly higher player retention than Marathon. Maybe even both.
Bungie are pretty incompetent when it comes to supporting a live-service game. They haven't managed to get their shit together in 10+ years in that regard. Why would this change now?

Splitgate had 67,724 players, so maybe this sequel will do fine. But I'm not sure it will have a CCU better than 100k, which is necessary to beat Marathon and Highguard by more than 100k.

I honestly don't know.
-Splitgate 1 was popular, but they lost a lot of interest and goodwill with the sequel, I'm not sure people will come back.
-Marathon I'd say has the best chances, but it's also the only one that you have to pay for upfront, which might be limiting for a game people aren't that hyped about to begin with.
-Reactions to Highguard seem lukewarm at best, but then again it's F2P and if the gameplay is actually good I could see it having decent numbers at first

I like how the poll has an option that any of these might retain over 100k more players than the other.

Doubt these games combined will keep 100k concurrent on Steam after one week.

I don't get the ongoing hate for Marathon.

I played it during the most recent server test, and it was fantastic. Whatever problems there were in the first alpha that left a negative impression on people have clearly been solved.

Arc Raiders never clicked with me, but Marathon did. The only real complaint I have is that it's first person, not 3rd person, but that's just personal preference.

I'm looking forward to the release in March so I can play more.

I predict Arc Raiders type numbers, if not better.

Yeah thats not gonna happen

My god I dont even know what Splitgate is, are have a generic extraction shooter epidemic?
Since I know the other 2 are pure colorful vomit and gen z garbage, I will risk with that one.

Shooters are taken for granted, all these listed look bad. Ubisoft has to get serious about ghost recon, rainbow six one of the greatest shooters ever turned into a shit show, the division I find myself a believer in, again gears e day, gears 6, halo infinite 2, etc. we have expectations for. These generic extraction shooters arrive quickly and are forgotten.

I'm surprised that 40% of responses think Marathon will have over 100K concurrent players a week after launch. Maybe they're confused by this overly complicated poll

I could see it happening. It's still Bungie at the end of the day and the name could carry it enough to get people to try at least. It depends on the open beta though if people don't like that it's over.
