Marathon looks really, really bad

So, as someone who has taken part in the play tests, I can tell you that the game looks better than those compressed low res bilibili videos make it out to be.

The problems in the last play test had very little to do with visuals. The game is fine on that end. Obviously it's a very distinct art style and will not be for everyone, but it's at least cohesive and consistently applied.

The visuals look like an edge lord made a cyberpunk themed pre-vis/prototype arena in Unity Engine.

Its gonna have the same effect the division once had on destiny.

It will start off strong and steal all the players of the genre type then kinda die off.

Thats the thing about trend chasers, the chance your game actually is successful is literally luck of the draw

Certainly looks unique.
Looks like the maps are constructed out of Mega blocks and K'nex.
An aesthetic that isn't going to please everybody, but not "Bad" as such.
Assuming of course that the visuals are the main point of contention.

holy shit how does it still look so bad

scroll down for all the videos
As a professional video editor I can assure you that I can bit-compress ARC Raiders in a similar way that it will look like a bad PS360 gen generic shooter.

Actual playtest feedback is surprisingly positive even on Reddit, and Reddit is usually a cesspit of negativity.

Test was surprisingly good. Lots if tweeking to be done but it's getting there.

Lighting was poor in places but its not finished obviously.

Trend setters are normally the successful ones, not the chasers.

It somehow feels like it's stuck in the past. Nothing looks like 2026. If someone had told me this was an obscure f2p game from 2010, I would have believed them immediately.

Nah it doesn't. I'm assuming you haven't played the closed tests? It's actually quite good but it will have a hard time competing with Arc Raiders for sure.

I don't understand this art style at all. It all looks too empty and too busy at the same time somehow.
They are actually charging money for this btw...let's not forget this. This isn't a F2P mobile game (which is what it looks like) lol.

This acquisition was such a waste for Sony. Unless somehow Destiny 2 gave them a profit of 4b bucks since acquired of course. (which i have a hard time believing).

I really think this is it for Bungie. If the rumors of Destiny 3 being only on early development i don't see Sony sustaining this big ass publisher until that game is ready to ship (and it's a gamble because it may or not flop anyway).

Also people comparing this with Concord...come on now. It won't flop like that. But it won't be a Destiny 2 type of hit for sure.

Mass Effect 2, Halo Reach, Bioshock 2, Black Ops. Those are some 2010 games.

Personally, I think it looks incredible and I can't wait for I.
I understand that Bungie has messed up just like any big company but I still love their games and am really looking forward to Renegages, I'd hate to see Bungie go under.

Should have been quietly cancelled after the art theft with people moved over to working on the clearly superior, all round better game Fairgame$.

Does Marathon have gameplay features that set it apart from other "extraction shooters"? I haven't seen anything intriguing in the trailers - just loot and dull combat.

It has progression similar to Arc Raiders. Permanent upgrades to your traders and runner.

The Combat and loot are the best parts.

Art style looked bad from the first day imo.
Color palette is like something a 2 year old would do with a box of crayons on the freshly painted white wall.

Bungie can do better, much better than that. It's a shane, because the gunplay of Destiny is very good but they keep making bad choices.

I just don't understand what the gimmick is with this that's going to set it apart from every other extraction shooter, other than it looking like roblox and minecraft had a baby

At first, I thought it must look like this because the maps are procedurally generated each game or something, but that isn't the case

Graphics per se it's fine, but the look overall are dull

Won't be Concord level of flop, but I don't believe will be the next shit either

The graphic look last gen and bland. Sure its unique but there is nothing about it that would make anyone spend money on skins while. The pixelated "blood" and incomprehensible world design just makes you feel like playing in a virtual mission that feels hollow with nothing at stake.
