Marathon or ARC Raiders? [POLL]

Which gameplay trailer appeals to you more?

  • Marathon

  • ARC Raiders

  • Neither

Neither of them stand out

Both feel like the developer is merely chasing trends, without bringing any fresh innovation to the genre or creating something unique

As a result, they lack the originality that could have set them apart from other games in the same space

These games are all the same with a different coat of paint. It all boils down to who is the most "sweat" player, playing like a maniac every match, shit is not fun.

What a tough choice, but I like third person shooters more.
I still go back to Division 2 from time to time, so going by only the trailer impressions alone, ARC RAIDERS.

I think this is a valid concern with Marathon. Less so with ARC Raiders.

Arc is just third person, the gameplay loop is the very same. I really liked their initial concept of fighting against the robots in a PVE world, but oh well...

I tried the ARC Raiders test and it did absolutely nothing for me. The look, the vibe, the gameplay, everything. So much that I don't think I'll even give it another chance when it's actually out.

Marathon always concerned me for a number of reasons, and those reasons still remain. Along with new ones regarding price, content, and more. I was never excited about it per se, but I was definitely curious about how it'd pan out. It already sounds like it's going in a direction that feels more concerning, unfortunately.

I mean, I'm catching up on all the videos and clips, but man, SkillUp playing it last week and saying "I don't know if it's going to be enough..." says a whole lot.

I don't know if that makes a real difference to the overall gameplay loop.
That's like saying Halo Combat Evolved is just like Splinter Cell - no difference. I think the tactics and pace you use to defeat opponents actually matter a lot.

The aesthetic of Marathon is doing nothing for me and Destiny's movement and gunplay felt way too slow and floaty. The FINALS feels great in that regard so more wanting to see more of Arc Raiders. Having said that I'm not a fan of extraction shooters in general so not super keen for either. Hate losing progress and time to sweats and prefer always progressing and improving my characters.

Those are completely different games dude, you're out of your mind...
Not really.

They're both linear games where you defeat AI enemies for 10 - 15 hours until you beat it. Unlimited respawns, cutscenes after every level. Commander in your ear telling you what your mission is.

I'm trying to get you to think about how Marathon and ARC Raiders might be different.

Dude they're not even the same genre of game, stop lol. I know you like extraction games or even Marathon, that's fine. But you're being excessively defensive of it, it's not that deep, the gameplay loop of both games is the very same, one just has more enemy density than the other and a different camera.

Need to see more from Arc Raiders. The good thing with both of them is Marathon looks like the gunplay from Destiny and Arc Raiders look like the gunpla from The Finals.

Probably neither because I stopped playing competitive shooters years ago. If I do jump on one at launch, probably Marathon because I know gunplay will be great in a Bungie game.

Are you talking Halo and Splinter Cell or Marathon and ARC?
Halo and Splinter cell are completely different genres, Arc and Marathon are the same with minor differences, the biggest being the art style, which is why I said "different coat of paint" initially.
I'll say that Arc wins in the art style, but the gameplay looks extremely boring.

I am not a fan of extraction shooters and I didn't know about Arc Raiders at all.

But the demo, which I've just watched, looks incredible, now I want to play this game!

I'm interested in both. I love The Finals, and enjoyed The Division 1 & 2 mostly, and enjoy extraction shooters, so Arc Raiders looks good to me. Marathon also seems interesting and I like the style of graphics for that title, so I'm in. I also just like new games and generally get excited for new things.

Neither, if I had to choose it'd be that game that's now on alpha?beta? on PC with that super dark, super weird but cool art style that looks like MGS (has mechs) in a dystopian futuristic post nuclear war setting - can anyone help me with the name ?

Now THAT'S some cool looking shit and I sincerely hope it'll come to consoles

Edit : found it, it's "Forever Winter"

Too much bot walking in these gameplays. Arc Raiders looks very unathletic. And TPP for anything involving PVP is a bit of a no go for me. Meanwhile Marathon looks kinda goofy and has sapped an entire studio's resources away from a game I actually do like to play so... ya know, jury's still out on this one. I vot Tarkov as the extraction shooter I plan on eventually trying, for now.

I registered for the ARC test. In the survey, I said I hate everything about GaaS games. I mentioned I found out about the game because someone on GAF made a thread about it, and I decided to register because the Marathon event was so bad I needed to get back at it somehow.

Marathon a switch 2 game? Haven't played neither of those, but Arc Raiders looks hundred fifty five thousand times more interesting.

I signed up for both betas, but definitely more confidence in Marathon. Arc Raiders seems a bit empty? Also, there is already a lot camping in extraction shooters and the third person perspective makes it much easier to look behind corners

I got into one of the Arc Raider play tests, I managed to get into a bad loot spiral in 45 minutes and uninstalled. At least in a game like Hunt it's fun even with the basic boiler plate items, which i did not find to be the case woth ARC Raiders.

I like Marathons aesthetic more. The weird cyborg worms that weave cyborg bodies which transfer consciousness is the type of mysterious and unsettling sci-fi I'm into.

I just watched this video I thought this was a better showing of Marathon for ME then the breakdown vid by Bungie. I've never played an extraction shooter so I think my initial response was overly negative.

I think Swamp did a good job especially when he got to non commentary showing the down time , the pve parts and into the pvp, then extract.

I have a better understanding now, and it has me excited to play. I do hope they release an open beta though.

I'm open to both.

Have to say I'm more intrigued by Marathon because it seems to address some of my gripes with Hunt Showdown and those public events/the "raid" sounds interesting based on Destiny.
And Bungie will have the gunplay on-point.

Had to look up Embark Studios just now and see they're the studio behind The Finals.
I absolutely hated the gunplay in the Finals, so...
Will check out ARC if I get into the alpha/beta, but not really excited about it..
