Marathon's 'Endgame' Map "Cryo" only available on weekends

Looks like that 500M bot AI kill requirement was BS as some people expected. What a scam.

Bungie was always going to drop the Cryo map March 20th but put up that 500M thing as a way to keep people playing. They surely thought the game would have more players which would had made the 500M kills much faster so it would nicely tie together as if the community did a great job achieving the goal which is a facade.

At current trend of about 20M AI kills/day it would be another 8 days of kills needed to hit 500M which would be next Thursday, so the Cryo wouldnt open till next weekend. But the target date was always this weekend.

lol

Weekends only is dumb. I don't care about ranked being weekends only but don't see why Cryo would also be.
User base going down.

Since Cryo is trios only, they want to funnel all Cryo gamers to weekends so it keeps up making teams. The number of gamers who qualify too wont be all gamers, and not all gamers even care about it either. If they allow Cryo on any day it spreads it thin.

Since Cryo resets every weekend, they want gamers to play it in a tight schedule as opposed to a trio wanting to play on a Thursday night when it resets a few days later.

Trials had loot you could only get in that mode that was uber useful in Raids or other elements of PvE/PvP. This has dogshit that is going to get wiped after a few months.
Not a great comparison
? This map will have the best loot in the entire game. Unique weapons and other things that you can only get from here

All of their "Trying to be fancy" with the model feels like bad ideas, or ideas that only work when you actually have many millions of players.

Gear resets at the end of the season for instance. That's going to drive people crazy who weren't aware of it, and many who are aware may feel sort of demotivated to play near the end of the season.

Why does it matter? You can lose that gun or gear to a solo fucking rook anyway. Its an extraction shooter. You wont have that gear before reset unless you just keep it in your vault lol
The answer I was making was in the difference to Trials. There is a difference because the gear you get doesn't reset (unless Bungie sunsets them).
In this case, your gear resets whether you lost it or not in an extraction.

I can guarantee you that most people who sticks with this game will be okay with resets. This aint a casual friendly game

Its the extraction loop 🤷‍♂️ You still get excited when you get it
I guess that could be true, but also think of it in diminishing returns as you get near the end of the season.
For ex, it's that last week prior to reset. Who would even care about the loot since you are about to lose it in a week anyway.

Season start and before the end is the most exciting time for extraction games with resets. Everyone will burn their gear, days before resets without caring about it

next if they survive long enough they're going to start locking marathon content inside the mythical vault. what a joke.
Sony for the love of God just cut your losses and kill it now.

I don't mind it tbh. It seems like a super hardcore area and perhaps, in light of balancing, it makes sense for the unemployed not being able to grind it ad naeseum and leave the rest of the community in the dust.

Ya, I knew they made it weekends only to keep teams intact. If qualified players can do Cryo any time, it'll be spread thin making matchmaking longer. Not every gamer will even care about doing Cryo. The game's user base is shrinking so they need to funnel Cryo into weekends when the pool of gamers is highest making teams of three the easiest to put together.

I wonder how the Steam chart will behave. I'm expecting numbers will go down at a faster rate

Periodic content is not necessarily a bad thing, but this is supposed to be the key to Marathon. The rug that ties the room together. Making it available only 42% of the time isn't going to bring in more people.

It'll probably hurt it IMO. Gamers who dont want to do Cryo at all wont care. But for the hardcore gamers waiting for this end game raid map, I'm sure most are disappointed. It'll turn away some gamers. Name one shooter where they drop a new map pack on weekends only and gamers think it's a great idea.

The part about trios should had been already known. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I read way back it was teams only. So not allowing solo shouldnt be a new issue. If someone kept up with news, they would had known

The level and other requirements are to ensure the players have a decent enough character since it's supposed to be hard. So this part shouldnt be an issue either unless someone was expecting even a level 1 guy can stroll in.

Bungie - if you don't work M-F, get a real job.
Doctor- "Nice to meet you, Bungie. I love your new game. I'm an emergency room doctor that works weekends due to the high volume of patients that come in on those days. I can't wait to play your new map when it comes out."

Bungie- "Did you say you work weekends? Then go fuck yourself."

Tbf I dont mind it and can see what they are trying to do (Similar to Trials in Destiny)

No doubt Cryo will feature a TON of the top loot, if its just open people can easily farm the best items non-stop, also looks like stages throughout the map and secrets giving players short times to try and explore while trying to survive.

Also makes me think they did this to strengthen and extend some of the content, players grind all week for gear to get ready for Cryo on the weekends

Holding hands with some who do too.

Dunno why they are dropping Cryo and Ranked on the same weekend but fully understand why both would be a weekend/ timed thing. My comment was that most of the folks in here don't even play the game so have no idea about why this would be the case. No body moaned when VOG didn't drop with the launch of Destiny or when Trials was a weekend only thing.
Tracking at about -10%. Peak might be about 47-48k.
lol. didn't the CCU thread get nuked?

Weekends only? Any reason around that? They view this as trials like?
I think it's a good idea.

I assume because this is supposed to be an endgame only map, where only players with high level and high gear can enter, giving them a higher challenge but with better rewards map.

By doing so, the more skilled/high level players may keep saving top gear for the weekend and then spend the weekend playing here, giving also the map a more exclusive vibe, and also make longer the time that will take the players unlock all its secrets.

This map and the rankeds are going to be a bloodbath where people will lose a ton of valuable gear, which requires time to collect, so it's important to give players time to collect the stuff to allow them play several matches there in a row with all the gear they want, instead of just playing one or two matches barely metting requirements and then having a long wait to try again.

Meanwhile, the newer and lower skilled players who mostly come to play the weekend would have the other maps more free of top level players, making the game less frustrating to them.

Regarding progression and user retention, it also gives a cool reason more to keep playing to grind until that level and collect cool gear, plus also to return later to the game.

In addition to this, concentrating stuff in a few days makes the userbase interested on this concentrate in these periods, which will ease matchmaking in the future once the userbase declines to to considerably lower number.

Got makes sense, thank you.

See someone who understands the game speaks sense.
