Crimson Desert : Map size calculation redone with official map

I recalculated more precisely with the official map, and a screenshot right at the entrance of Demeniss City.

So basically he's 2800 meters away from Hernand Tavern :

I've been very conservative about what is explorable, besides maybe north west, which could mean there is 20 km² to cut.
Keep in mind that the sea is explorable at least with a small boat and there's islands in the south that are not counted here.

So 144km² :

Also, Light No Fire is eventually going to be the ceiling.

HelloGames did say 'actually planet-sized' 🤷‍♂️
Hellogames were already doing planet size in No Mans Sky. The problem is what's it going to be filled with? If these games just have some randomly generated map that makes it look vast but there is very little density in terms of points of interest then that ceiling is not much of a ceiling. Looking forward to Light No Fire nonetheless.

The planetary procedural terrain would 'loop' in No Man's Sky after traveling a certain distance on it. I don't remember the exact calculation but it was smaller than people thought.

It's why Sean clarified that the planet in Light No Fire is attempting to be 'an actual planet' and not like an NMS planet.

We will have to find out about it together when they do a re-reveal.

The most interesting thing about it is the fact that they want it to be just one gigantic planet, with actual different terrain, landmarks, etc. all around. They had to have figured something out with their tech to make it work.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is ~136km².
Grand Theft Auto V is ~80km².
Red Dead Redemption 2 is ~53km².
To also compare to MMOs:

Elder Scrolls Online (as of now): ~400km²
World of Warcraft: Variable…some say ~200km² without counting verticality, underwater content, and dungeons, and if you count everything it's up to ~950km²

I'm bringing this up because at the very beginning Crimson Desert was planned to be an MMO before they changed course.

Whether or not they had decided map size by then is another question that would need answering.

One way of making a huge map size interesting would be for the game world to somehow have the cultural and historical density of Tolkien's Middle-earth.
