Two marines are under investigation for uploading a photo to social media in which they allegedly threatened to attack gay bars—all less than a week after the shooting at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, which has been deemed the worst mass shooting by a single gunman in U.S. history.

The post also promised that “Orlando was long overdue,” and that San Diego, the city near where the suspects were based, was “next,” according to The Marine Corps Times.

Shortly after the photo was uploaded, the marine who did so followed it up with “too soon?”

Unfortunately, this incident inherently tied to the Orlando shooting is not a standalone occurrence: on Monday night, a man was arrested in Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood after he threatened to perpetrate an “Orlando-style” shooting outside of the gay bar Happy Fun Hideaway.

He also screamed that he would “get his 50 just like Orlando,” referring to the initial approximated number of Pulse casualties

However, having worked with some I've found they can be some of the shittiest people to be around. The amount of dick waving and the casual flaunting of masculinity while being super homophobic was something that I don't want to be around again.

It depends on where you are and what unit you're with. In my squadron, there are a ton of LGBT people and no one really gives a shit. There's a lot of masculinity flaunting but for the most part it's pretty laid back. No one cares who you like or who you date.

I know they're not all like that, but I am very fortunate. It also may have to do with the fact that I am not in a combat oriented unit and there's none of that douche-y bravado, but I'm grateful either way

I read an article about life in military prison, and it sounds painfully boring.

I'm not sure how much of this is true bigotry versus "young and stupid" but yeah, those guys are in for a world of hurt. I have to constantly counsel my soldiers to not post stuff to social media, ESPECIALLY in uniform. Lots of people do stuff like this, but if someone can trace it back to your employer or school, the "facebook anonymity" factor goes away REAL fast. I'm not sure young people even have a sense of how social media posts can come back to haunt them.
