Mario Basket 3 on 3 for Nintendo Gamecube?

DrLazy said:
Well that leaves Mario Football to finish off the Nintendo sports world. Wow.

Hockey is still missing too...

That would be the only hockey game I would be interested in, by the way.

When we have visual evidence to share, we'll make sure to dunk our balls in your general direction.

I'm sorry, but am I the only one that found this quote hysterical?

Who would buy the console version over a cheaper, online, portable one with near-GCN graphics?

There are plenty of things wrong with this statement, but most of all... isn't the argument against PSP "Why would anyone buy a PSP game when they can buy the same game on a console, and better?"

Because on the DS this game is online and cheaper ;-) or because the touchscreen gameplay mechanics could end up being better, we'll see...

No, I'm sorry. The correct answer was "because some people are hypocritical asshats who fail at life", but we'll give you a point for effort.

I dont get it... Nintendo says they want to innovate and change the way we play games right?

Then why do they focus their efforts on releasing as many mario sports titles as possible. There's nothing innovative or genre changing playing a simplified sports game filled with characters from the mario universe.

I know they aim these games for kids and mario fans but i think I hear more about mario spinoffs than new titles

I wonder if they will continue the same practice on the revolution... right now im looking foward to new franchises with the new way to play. I dont want nintendo to just release a new game and then just start pumping out mario spinoffs and sports titles.

well they never develop them, so it's not like they're clogging up internal development teams.

Playing them with Rev controller means they will automatically be innovative. Right away. Instantly. Swing controller, INNOVATION(tm). They can release all the sports game as normal, but now with REV CONTROLLER dribbling and REV CONTROLLER ball kicking, it's a total new paradigm.

Keep your point for yourself, and have a smile, life is not as negative as you make it to be ;-)

You sure you don't want this point? We could give you another for this comment, and then you'd have two

Hey I was just being constructive and you jumped on me. This game could work well with the touchscreen and I'm looking forward to seeing how they implemented it. I'm sure we'll be able to use a traditional configuration anyway so, just give it its chance.

The only remaining sport title that Nintendo needs is an Olimpic game each four years.

Call it- "Mario Party: Sports Stadium"... could be a multiplayer party game with lots of sports themes minigames. Not a bad idea actually.

who's not giving it a chance? No to derail this thread, but your response did nothing to answer the question posed.

Adding online play and "touch screen support" is zero different from adding eight new levels or mini-games or online play in any PSP game. I'm not accusing you of downplaying PSP games in that way anyway, so you don't need to take offense. I just found that comment particularly humorous, considering the ammo certain people tend to use.

This is fine as far as it goes, but people enjoy the games and that's ultimately what's going to drive development. Nintendo thinks they can do both, and certainly they think they can integrate X interface into Y game, or else they'd be painting themselves into an even smaller box.

Well Mario was already in NBA Street; so...

Plus it'd be as stupid as converting Zoo Keeper and Polarium for the GBA, regarding the Control scheme, which is the main reason why I am interested in this game (for the DS obviously)

You know what this means?

Those latest blurry shots that looked amazing for the DS and were near GC graphics? Yeah..those were GC shots, not DS :P

So uhhh...yeah. The GC version will look like GC graphics, DS will look like n64.

Understandable... i dont think nintendo should stop making these games altogether... but right now I see that their focus is on mario sports, spinoffs, and cameos... I just think there should be some sort of balance.

Also... im clearly not speaking about the handheld side... if anything I think handhelds see the best of nintendo published games.

Shh shh shh shhhhh. You're trying to argue with Amirox.

See this tree?

That's right. It's fruitless.

Does that make sense? I mean, I'm not sure maybe my memory is fuzzy but didn't the unit displaying the Mario 3 on 3 images have NDS instructions on it? (I remember something like touch screen to dribble)

Either you have a argument for what I said, or you don't. Don't be a pussy. Or are you suddenly going to imply that the prevailing argument ISN'T that PSP games are just console games, except worse?

I meant the first two images at magicbox:

That are a different image size and look better than the rest. Especially in terms of effects.

Hm, I dunno. It definitely looks better than most DS 3D shit, but I think it's still DS. If that's all SquareEnix can produce for a Gamecube, it'd be very underwhelming. Look at Wario, his character model is extremely blocky in the first picture. If you go down and look at the screens that are definitely DS, Wario model matches it pretty well.

I think it's just one of the better looking DS games.

Pffft more like what isn't wrong with THE PSP

I hope they don't make it too wacky. You don't want a Mario sports game to be a sim, but they can go too far (see: Mario Tennis).

I wish they made it into RPG, since that's sort of what SquareEnix is known for anyway. Like Mario Golf. I prefer the handheld Golf games to the console golf games 'cause of that.

If they could make it as fun as Ice Hockey for the NES I'm in. To this day, that's the ONLY hockey game I've ever played.

I would conclude that this game was born on the DS. Square came to nintendo with the idea of this game for the DS. I'm guessing the big idea were the touchscreen controls.

Then nintendo marketing probably jumped on it and said "oh hey lets make a gamecube version too, it's not like we have anything else to release for the system".

I'm probably going to get the DS version myself simply because I am a lazy bastard and welcome portable gaming ever since the introduction of lithium ion batteries in them. Mostly I'm too lazy to hook up my consoles to the TV anymore though.

I don't know if the game is coming to the GC or not, but *clearly* we have not seen any GC shots yet. Bebpo, if you think those shots are GC-quality, you need some specs mate. Decent 3D for DS, yes, but nowhere fucking near GC level.

the ds version uses the touch screen for bounce is this going to use bongos...?

That would be awesome! :D

If this game comes to GameCube (and I do not consider it definite since this is Computer and Video Games we are talking about as a source. Only slightly better than *****, in my experience.), I would love to dribble with the bongos. Too bad the rest of the controls wouldn't fit with the bongo controllers. :(
