Mario Kart Arcade GP Pic

I think I'd actually prefer seeing Mario Kart Arcade GP upspecced for Revolution launch rather than a GameCube port too. It'd make an excellent launch game and Namco has good track record with this sort of thing (Soul Calibur DC).

It wouldn't make sense, though -- being a Triforce game, it's just begging to be put on GC, where it will rack up tons of revenue. Then, Nintendo can make another Mario Kart for Revolution at some point and make money off of that title.

Wouldn't it make more money if it was a launch game for a new console?

Maybe, maybe not -- the GC already has a large userbase (relative to the userbase for a new console, anyway) to purchase a new Mario Kart, whereas a new console would have to start from scratch, though most launch software does sell abnormally well.

Still, the fact that the game is Triforce-based makes a GC port almost a no-brainer.

Need to see this in motion asap! Looks very good and I am quite surprised to have this hit us with little info before hand, like the good ol days.

Sure, but Nintendo likely needs as much launch content as they can muster. Your argument would've worked just as well for Soul Calibur and we saw how well that turned out. Plus Mario Kart DD is still pulling in a lot of sales (20-50k a month), a new Mario Kart might stem that.... I just think all around, it'd be better served making a splash on Nintendo's next machine rather than fizzling out with GameCube.

Nintendo, more than ever, needs a really good launch library for there next console. I'm sure they could take the basics of this triforce game and up the graphics/content and release it for the Revolution.

:D wow!!! over 100 kinds of items

You could also argue that if Revolution is truly as far off as it seems (a Fall 2006 U.S. launch, for example) Nintendo could use another killer app for the GC besides Zelda to fill in the last year or so. ;)

Still, I'll concede that a Revolution port perhaps isn't quite as unlikely as I made it seem. I still think a GC version is more likely, though.

I prefer a revolution port as well. It would be overkill at this point to release another Mario Kart and by the time we see a port (this hits the arcades this fall doesn't it) we are already talking possibly a handful months before Nintendo's next machine. I'm all for a Soul Calibur type of remix on the Revolution.

But that's only 11 characters. It needs to be even!

11 is the number of the illuminati.

I usually don't like Mario Kart games but this looks like it has potential. UFOs on the track is cool.

Ah, so I see we have a legitimate Mario Kart coming out now. Haven't had one of those that had a chance in hell of coming to consoles since the SNES.

I'm getting the feeling from this, that if there really is 100 items, that you choose which 3 you want to get during the race, instead of 100 randomly thrown at you. which would add an element of strategy that would be quite different from the player-specific ones in MKDD

i think the original were inky pinky blinky and clyde, and Ms. pac man replaced sue for clyde, though im not 100% on that one.
I believe you are correct.

They were also know as Bashful, Speedy, Shadow, and Pokey. The red ghost was Blinky/Shadow.

Looks cool.

But pressing break and accelerate at once to jump and use items? Lame. Give us a button to jab for the items at least.

Hope it comes to home consoles, though I could actually see it not doing (despite how easy it would be and how a huge a seller). Mario Kart's always been a one per system thing, no matter how well they sell or how easy it would be to churn out another.

Looks great! The Gamecube's 2005 lineup keeps getting better and better. It's cool that you can play as Pac-Man. It gets tiresome playing the same characters over and over again. Hopefully you can play as one of the ghosts as well.

Edit: Damn I skipped over all the posts and then I noticed that you CAN play as a ghost. Well I'm sold! Hmm, maybe they could include some of their other mascots as well. Klonoa and Huepow perhaps?

i think Jarrod has a point. I mean, yeah this game is on Triforce hardware, but wasn't Soul Calibur based on PSone hardware in the arcades? And look what Namco was able to do with that on Dreamcast. It looked/played great and was a flagship title for the system's launch. Imagine if Namco has about a year (til Revolution launch) after finishing the arcade version to rework the game for Nintendo's new system? Upgrade the graphics, add a ton of bonus features, it could be great.

A GC version would be all well and good (and easy to make), but a Revolution version with:

- online
- camera support
- better graphics
- unlockables
- extra modes

...would be awesome. It's years between Mario Kart games; we may as well hope this one gets improved before it's on a home console, right? Maybe they could put in a Double Dash mode for those of us who actually enjoyed that. :D

Good call mate, I was thinking the same.

I'm with the crowd wanting this on Revolution.Imagine this at launch with online play,it would be awesome. It would be a complete afterthought on the NGC,IMO...but I just want online Nintendo games :(

I wish this was true but Nintendo is so unyielding with this no online crap that I don't really see hope of Revolution supporting online 100%

I do hope that I am wrong but those bastards are stubborn but I still love them though :)

Pictures look fine, but those tracks ARE a little too wide. Unless this gets a home release, though, I won't get a chance to play it. Oh well.

And IGN's article seems to think that the horn handled weapon firing and that three items are randomly selected for you at the beginning of the race and assigned. Whether you can pick up more if unknown, as the wording of the article was more than a little weird.

This is really cool news. I liked Double Dash, but wouldn't mind a more traditional Mario Kart coming out.

The only questions this raises are -

Two Mario Karts released on the same system? Feels strange......

What does this mean for a Mario Kart Revolution? Would it be pushed back even further because this new MK is coming so close to the end of GC's lifespan?

If this is being developed by Namco, then it shouldn't affect any timelines on Nintendo's end very much.

I'll agree two Mario Karts on one system seems unusual, but the two games are pretty different (two characters a cart and BLUE SPARKS vs. the one character a cart with jumping) so there's a chance they can get away with it. Besides, if there are going to be 3-4 Mario Party games on a system, I think they can squeeze in another Mario Kart.

Because it's redundant in terms of resources and market potential. Mario Kart GP would be better served being reworked for Revolution launch a la Soul Calibur.
