I CAN'T IGNORE THE GREATEST KART RACER EVER!!!!![]()

it really doesn't matter.. after the debacle that was MKDD reviews I really couldn't care what reviewers gave this one either. nice to see it doing well though.

I want this game, but not this month. This is the month of the tree sitty! Of course if I can't find one the backup plan is to buy a DS.
Yet right after this, the reviewer says:On its surface, MKDS isn't really all that different than the previous four titles in the series, offering players a chance to take control of one of a dozen Mario characters in go-karts... It's considerably less intricate than Double Dash!!, too, offering fewer racers and a more streamlined interface (no character swapping necessary).
Why? It's online, though the online is kinda crap. He rips the online for two paragraphs, but then goes on to mention that when you finally do get online, it's great because, wait for it, it's fun. Why is it fun? Who cares, it just is. **rollseyes**Despite this, it's probably the single best kart racing game ever.
Yet he doesn't offer up any reason as to why the offline modes are in any way even marginally different/evolved/fresh from the previous entries in the series. And not a single mention of the A.I? Is Nintendo beyond such criticism? **sighs**The offline modes are far more robust and varied.
Aside from the portability and shoddy online mode, I can't fathom why a game like this that has evolved so little since it's debut 13 years ago still garners such glowing marks when competing titles get lambasted for lack of innovation over less than a quarter of that time. But in the end, isn't this, you know, just another Mario Kart game? Well, yeah. But it's as good as the series has ever been.
Perhaps we should start a thread in the online forum for the swapping of Mario Kart ID's?Ironclad_Ninja said:Not a lot of trouble really. We just need a thread with all of the friend codes and the NFC handles. Similar to the XBL gamertag thread.
If MK was on the GBA or the GCN, it wouldn't matter; rant would stay the same. Has nothing to do with the DS.jj984jj said:Heian-kyo, is there something about the DS you don't rant over?
Lemme rephrase it then... is there anything on the DS you haven't ranted about yet?Heian-kyo said:If MK was on the GBA or the GCN, it wouldn't matter; rant would stay the same. Has nothing to do with the DS.
Meteos kicks ass. And a whole wack of other games are quite good, and I've stated such, I just find it disappointing that they don't 'stay great' beyond a typical renting period for, wait for it again, my tastes.jj984jj said:Lemme rephrase it then... is there anything on the DS you haven't ranted about yet?
What don't you understand about this? Playing games online is fun.Heian-kyo said:Why? It's online, though the online is kinda crap. Who the fuck ripped Crash Team Racing or Jak X Racing for lack of innovation?I can't fathom why a game like this that has evolved so little since it's debut 13 years ago still garners such glowing marks when competing titles get lambasted for lack of innovation over less than a quarter of that time.
Dude, I totally agree, but is simply being fun enough to justify a 9.0? Last I heard, 7 and 8 are still good scores...Mike Works said:What don't you understand about this? Playing games online is fun.
For one, the biggest complaint leveled at CTR was that it deviated little from the basic MK formula (which to be fair was much fresher 6 years ago then it is today), but it was also praised because it completely bested MK64 in nearly all categories; it was simply a better game.Mike Works said:Who the fuck ripped Crash Team Racing or Jak X Racing for lack of innovation?

And Jak X? Are you serious? Check gamerankings and tell me how many publications are giving it 9's...
Dunno, DS games have the highest chance of me actually finishing games than games on any other system I own.Heian-kyo said:I just find it disappointing that they don't 'stay great' beyond a typical renting period for, wait for it again, my tastes.
Just like you are complaining about the excitement for this game while 2 megaman remakes are on your "psp games you're going to love" list. It's a chicken & egg problem at this point and therefore not really worth arguing aboutI can't fathom why a game like this that has evolved so little since it's debut 13 years ago still garners such glowing marks when competing titles get lambasted for lack of innovation over less than a quarter of that time.

Lets list some things which separates Mario kart from the rest of the kart racers and other things that make it special, shall we?
-First online kart racer. Ever.

X-Band for SNES.:lol
Exactly. I just don't have time for the 50+ hour epics anymore, and with all the games coming out as well as the ones sitting on my shelf unplayed, I don't have the attention span for them either.elostyle said:Dunno, DS games have the highest chance of me actually finishing games than games on any other system I own.
But who's saying the Mega Man games will/should score 9.0+? We both know they won't, and we both know they probably shouldn't; they look like really good, solid game experiences, but that's why we have scores like 7.0 and 8.0.elostyle said:Just like you are complaining about the excitement for this game while 2 megaman remakes are on your "psp games you're going to love" list. The DS has been just what the Doctor ordered this year. Games that are easy to pick up and play, can be put down at a moment's notice (sleep function), and aren't as long as your average Michener novel.
