rumour is that sony is trying to get ben reilly into the story for Spidey 5 so that they can get a Scarlet Spider spinoff going, in order to keep the Spider-Man license...

they have to keep making movies to keep the license...this in a movie?? not sure if I want... :(

Sony isn't like fox....is it?

There are no rumors for Spider-Man 5. You just made that up.

I gotta say though, I think it would be interesting if they went the Clone Saga route in the movies. But not this time around. In the inevitable reboot. That's something the groundwork for (Miles Warren, Gwen, etc.) should be laid down for for a couple movies, until they eventually did it.

That's Fox you're thinking of. IIRC, Sony's contract stipulated six Spider-Man films. So unless they renegotiated something somewhere along the line, I think the rights revert back to Marvel after either Spider-Man 5 or the Venom spin-off (whichever comes last).

Yeah, I believe it was 6 movies back in the day. And no contract expansion has been announced.

well i have to tell you that makes me feel better...

Marvel might have to put Spidey movies to sleep for a few years after Sony has made 5 of them...you would think it would make the franchise a bit stale...

but imagine Spider-Man (not to mention X-Men, Daredevil) being back in the Marvel Studios stable... Civil War Movie? Would be awesome. Unless there are other Marvel characters that have been licensed out that I am not aware of.....

if the contract really is six movies and there is a Venom movie in the works, then I guess that puts the kabosh on a Scarlet Spider movie....I do like the character Ben Reilly(sp?) though.

Probably more retconned fallout from One More Day.
well after reading the first 20ish chapters of life of reiley they could do any random thing they wanted to bring him back without it being more absurd than what has happened.

I know spider-man mostly from other media. I liked his civil and back in black trades but they did not grab me enough to keep up with him since I got those. Ben and his non-suit was pretty cool when I first saw it so I would be for the character somehow existing.

I guess the ultimate universe books are all done now. Marvel will probably do a lot more of these alternative stories(clones, x-men forever) in the void of those.

They're not done. They're relaunching Ultimate Spider-Man from #1 and Millar is writing an Ultimate Avengers ongoing. And they just announced Ellis is writing a 4-issue Ultimate Armor Wars mini, which is just awesome.

I know you guys have questions, but I'm going to answer any of them...yet.

I will say that Howard and I refer to this project as THE CLONE SAGA: The Writers Cut

That's it for now...but watch the skies!

The story of the Clone Saga is way, way more interesting than the story itself. There's a blog, Life of Reilly, that lays out the whole thing, with every single one of the retcons, writer changes, and wackly hijinx involved spelled out in extensive detail. I recommend it highly to anyone who liked or hated any part of the Clone Saga. :lol

Thanks for that link. I'm only on part 13 and I'm already smh by some of the decision making. Maximum Clonage? The Traveller as some God-like being trying to understand evil? :lol

The sales and marketing dept of Marvel needs to be shot for their part in the Clone Saga screw-ups.

My bad, I assumed(stupidly) that ultimatum meant it was all over. relaunching ultimate s-m seems like a good idea, people love their original spider-man.

Yeah some parts of the story sound so good(the implications of being a clone or not) but the lengthening and profiteering was insane. Of course traveller was there from the near start...

This was announced months ago. The last issue of Ultimate Spider-Man just came out, after Ultimate X-Men and Ultimate Fantastic Four were canceled for good.

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man starts in August I believe, along with Ultimate Comics Avengers by Millar.

Epic Ben-Reilly Spiderman suit action is all I request.

I'd rather see him as the Scarlet Spider, taking his name back from the MVP clones using the name under the Iron Spidey suit in The Initiative.

My memory is rusty, but if they were retelling the story, doesn't he spend time switching back and forth between suits/names?
