So from the same video we got the scoop that Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) would be making a cameo in Age of Ultron, there were quite a few MCU-related scoops dropped that I feel is worth a thread.

Video.

Highlights:

15:00 - Feraci says he's had access to the AoU script for a while
27:00 - Feraci mentions Captain Marvel cameo in Age of Ultron
49:30 - Inhumans rumours don't seem to be supported by insiders, hosts suggest that Marvel either planted that news to judge interest or an arbitration move by the writer, still thinks it's as unlikely as before, been in development since 2011
50:40 - Host suggests rumblings of an Adam Warlock movie
51:00 - Host suggests rumblings that after Cap 3 and Thor 3 they're going to retire those properties and move on to new ones entirely
51:30 - Faraci seems to suggest Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch are not Inhumans, instead are modified by Chitauri technology
51:50 - Runaways is probably dead because the script is pre-MCU
52:00 - Dr. Strange script that's reportedly existed forever has been scrapped, was standard origin story with Baron Mordo as the villain. Marvel decided to no longer do origins, and as a result, Strange now begins as Sorcerer Supreme. Jon Spaihts is taking a totally new approach, will not even be touching the old script.

The podcast in general is a great listen, and for DC fans theres some great discussion about DC moving forward and how they're planning post-MoS, how DC doesn't want any jokes in BvS, etc.

Interesting, I think it's a cool way to approach things now post (The Winter Soldier spoiler)
Black Widow dumping all the SHIELD information onto the internet and making all of the potential threats public knowledge
.

What do y'all think? Think an Adam Warlock movie makes sense? Could Dr. Strange be further off than we thought? Will they drop Cap and Thor franchises and just leave further appearances as being cameos/crossovers?

An Adam Warlock film is weird to me, which is good. They really need to up the crazy for him.

Still kind of skepical of this, because Feige just said after Comic-Con that it would be a classic Marvel origin story. This would have to be a really recent decision.

Not to mention that it seems like most rumors about future MCU films have been way off base.

Who is playing Danvers?

Is it Katee Satchkoff?
She said she has yet to meet with Marvel for a specific role.

Well, they did just announce the new writer very recently, right? They could have just scrapped it.

Still disappointed if Dr. Strange doesn't get an origin story. As far as they go, his is one of the better ones. At the same time it would be exciting to see them skip the early stuff like Baron Mordo, and go straight off the deep end into encounters with the likes of Dormammu.

Also, I doubt that Iron Man / Captain America / Thor movies will be retired entirely. My best guess is that after phase 3 they will all go on a temporary hiatus (outside of Avengers) in order to allow other new properties like Ant-Man and GotG to grow.

I don't really see how an adam warlock movie would work given the nature of the character, better to show up in another movie as a side character, like GotG 2. A Strange movie is the one origin story I would have liked to see on the big screen, oh well.

This. I also recall Feige just saying this.

But I would love an Adam Warlock movie

What? No more origin stories? Screw that. I don't to see 3 sequels per year :X Iron Man 1 is among the best super hero movies of all time. I score it 2nd after Dark Knight out of all non-assembly cast super hero movies.

I like the idea of moving away from origin stories, but I think Strange of all people kinda needs a little backstory.

No more origin stories doesn't mean no more new properties...

I think the larger issue is that they're aware of the "formula problem" they've been running into recently, and are trying to diversify a bit, like with CA2.

no they mean that new characters won't waste your time with boring origins

well i'm sure they will still manage to be boring hero's journeys

I was hoping that Adam Warlock would debut in a GotG sequel, however if Marvel wants to explore the character deeper then it might be for the best if he gets his own movie.

I mean Strange has hubris and a fatal flaw that is core to contrasting who he is as a character. And it isn't like he an origin story that is ingrained into society a la Superman/Batman/Spider-Man.

Plus I think there is a lot of fun to be had to his first introduction to the weird stuff he gets exposed to on a regular basis.

But many of TWS's biggest problems are the formulaic, like the big dumb battle at the end or the
clearly traitorous authority figure
. Stuff that Marvel just loves.

Then I don't know what the difference between a "new property" and an "origin story" of a new character is.
An origin story will go through the motions of how a superhero got their powers, etc. instead of jumping into an established/mature superhero.

As for your worries about there not being new properties, Marvel plans to introduce at least one new property per year, which is ambitious enough.

Danvers could get away without an origin story, you could easily have something like
Enemy Within, where the story essentially starts after she loses her memory.

Though honestly they're probably better off starting off with something completely fresh, great character, not a great deal of good arcs.

It takes enough work to sell the public on obscure characters. Sounds like Marvel just made its job that much more difficult for no reason other than to take shortcuts and hope they can push their properties on the Marvel brand alone. A very risky move.

Then I don't know what the difference between a "new property" and an "origin story" of a new character is.

"New property" means just new characters. "Origin story" is how that character acquired their super powers, i.e. Spider-Man getting bitten by the radioactive spider, or Captain America being a scrawny failure of a soldier and getting pumped full of the serum.

And to be honest, Dr. Strange's origin story is a little boring, so I'm cool if they drop that part.

Then I don't know what the difference between a "new property" and an "origin story" of a new character is.

Movie opens with Dr. Strange already casting spells. He fights a threat with sorcery. At some point in the film he tells a character the five-minute version of his backstory. Then he beats the villain.

Origin story would be, Dr. Strange learning magic for 45 minutes then he fights a villain.

Black widow, Hawkeye, Fury and technically The Hulk didn't have origin stories. Not all of them had their own movie, but I would imagine that Black Panther in his own movie will already be king of Wakanda, therefore we can skip the drawn out rights of passage and getting used to power sequence in the beginning and start off with him being experienced and already kicking ass.

Edit: beaten

IGN was just discussing this. Some good points for and against.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wCj5BrrzyQ
They make a lot of good points here about there being way too many parallels with existing films, including Begins.

I agree though, some characters need it, and some characters don't ASM didn't, and suffered. I think Strange is definitely one that can avoid it though. He's a sorcerer, he's mysterious, and we can find shards of his past like sprinkled throughout the film but help preserve that mystery. I think they can do that entire film with him just being an altruistic sorcerer with some sort of conflict he needs to surmount.

I think Guardians proved you don't need to spend a crazy amount of histories to create characters you care about and they don't seem completely random. People can identify with tropes or get their 10 seconds of background via word of mouth.

The Hulk has the Ang Lee film (technically) and the other 3 are supporting characters anyway.

I recently saw winter soldier finally, the strange name drop made me go "oh shit" even tho I knew about it, I had just forgotten lol

Formulaic elements and tropes aren't necessarily a bad thing, especially if they're done right. Avatar is the most trope-y movie in recent memory but is still an incredible movie.

I had no issues with the final set piece in TWS, considering that the actual helicarrier fight was only a couple of scenes, while everyone else did their own thing prior to that.

I'm surprised this is getting around as new news... This was in the "leaked" script summary months ago.

Same one that leaked the party scene right?

What's the cameo then? Just a name drop like Strange or something substantial?

I will never understand the "internet's" hatred for origin stories.

Origins are fun. Origins are cool.

Done right of course.
