Marvel reportedly done with origin films, old Dr. Strange script scrapped and more

Can Adam Warlock be interesting enough for an entire film? Sort of thought he'd just pop in on the other Cosmic movies
Soul Gem? Mayve a movie where he investigates Thanos' past? Church of Truth? Magus?

Lots of possibilities

In that sense does anyone else think Thanos needs his own movie before facing of the Avengers? We need more fleshed out villians in the MCU and Thanos can have an awesome solo film, his chiildhood, his rising to the mad titan and stuff would make a cool film

Wonder if the success of Guardians is what is giving them the courage to kill Cap & Thor, or if they will just show up for Avengers movies. Then again, it could be trouble with renegotiating the contracts.

Bucky Barnes Cap for sure.
I basically can't see Avengers 2 ending without one of the principle cast dead.

good. origin films suck ass. they're predictable, boring and do little in showcasing the breadth of the characters relating to the protagonist.

I'm ok with them retiring Thor and Cap after their 3rd movies (and final appearances in Avengers 3 I assume). Chris Evans is my favorite actor and Hemsworth is pretty high up there too so I have no interest in the MCU once they leave and both actors are kind of over it at this point anyways.

Audiences will prob be burned out by these films by 2018 anyways and without Evans, Hemsworth and Downey to draw them in I can't see the success of these movies continuing forever.

Not saying sucess is perpetual, but the box office figures for GotG say otherwise.

I'm ok with that. Just do it like Hulk and have all of that in the opening credits. It's a good way to establish some minimal ground rules if you dive right into the matter...

The Hulk has the Ang Lee film (technically) and the other 3 are supporting characters anyway.

It would probably be more accurate to say the Hulk has the Bill BIxby/Lou Ferrigno TV series. Ang Lee's film is more or less apocryphal at this point. The Hulk has been a major presence in pop culture for a very long time now. I support Marvel's decision to limit origin stories, if this is true. Minimal backstory is all that's needed for the vast majority of heroes. Spending 45 minutes on Strange's origin would not be particularly interesting, or a good use of screen time considering the point in the MCU story his movie will likely be released in.

I'd be willing to watch Captain America 9 if they were willing to make it, i don't want them to stop at Captain America 3 :(

Sebastian Stan is contracted for 7 more films. The Captain America series will continue long past 3, even if Chris Evans decides not to.

I ahve ragged on too many origin movies before, especially if they are in quick succession or the same fucking character having origin stories over and over. However, to just stop also makes not a great deal of sense. New characters I think often benefit from an origin story.

My prediction:

"We're done with Captain America after 3."

*Captain America 3 makes $1 billion*

"You know, we could do another sequel after Captain America 3."

Agreed. Dedicating five minutes of the film to explain his story briefly isn't a crime, especially since I'm pretty sure most people don't know the character.
If a movie only spends five minutes on his origin, it's not an origin story movie. They won't completely ignore origins, they just won't focus on them for an entire movie.

Do it like Blade. Sprinkle the origin throughout the story, but don't make the audience wait for the superhero stuff.

This is similar to GotG [some vague character background spoilers.
They spend maybe 10 minutes on Star Lord's life as a kid and backstory info other characters feed the audience later in the film but with those 10 minutes you know everything there is to know about him. Same thing for Drax and Rocket. Audiences don't need to see to see the origin and are willing to roll with the characters having whatever power as long as their origin gets a quick mention.

I really like origin stories when done well (Batman Begins, Iron Man) so it's a shame that Captain Marvel won't be able to potentially get one.

No origin story for Strange makes a lot of sense, honestly. Introduce him at the height of his powers, almost as a terrifying, elemental force, and then humanise him over the course of the movie.

If this is true, I predict we'll get some audience insert character to introduce us to the world and serve as the protagonist until we get to know Strange a little.

Cap 2 implies he's already a significant person of interest by the time that film starts, so this is pretty likely.

I like the idea of ending the Cap and Thor series. It will also be interesting to see how Disney manages their cosmic and magical franchises like Guardians and Dr. Strange considering the Star Wars sequel trilogy and spinoffs around the corner.

For Dr. Strange you really don't need much of an origin story, and I wonder if Mandarin will be teased at again as well.

Ugh, I hope not.

Nah, that'll be in Black Panther. Because I actually want to see Everett K. Ross on screen too.

If Inhumans was a plant, then is (Avengers 3 potential spoilers)
Civil War
also a plant? That's the leak I'm most excited for.

Yeah, audience insert character makes a lot of sense, as annoying as they can be. As far as his origin, I would be cool with the first movie touching on it throughout, with the sequel really fleshing it out. The formula has worked before, and I expect one marvel property at least will do it that way.

I'm not sure why we're spoiler marking
Civil War
, but that should be a reunion film in 2025, with the entire combined MCU cast up to that point.

I am tired of origin stories movies

I want more Captain America: Winter Soldier and Punisher Warzone type movies and less Amazing Spider-man 1 and Captain America 1 movies

ASM1's reboot origin story was worse and longer than Raimi's SM origin story

So... after the cameo should we have a Carol movie ? =D

A Dr Strange movie that is not an origin story will feel ... WEIRD
How do you explain all the magic stuff ?

Too bad, I love origin stories. It's awesome when they discover their super powers, or first suit up etc.
