DC Universe online signaled a high player count and had the players but went down over the years, by rule with player counts we must give a game time.

This thing is going to kill off Overwatch if it keeps up at this rate. I never play these games, but this game for some reason has me checking character guides and shit because the designs are mostly good and I feel curious how they'd adapt characters I know into the game's meta.

The last game that did this with me was Overwatch so that tells you something.

Sony must be seething after their Concord disaster.
lol why? They're raking in cash on it.

Is that good for a f2p game? Seems unremarkable, especially if 90% of the player base drops it in a week.

lol...

The weekend didn't start yet in most of the world. These are weekday numbers (and they're on the massive side of that imo, this game is probably doing similar numbers on PS and Xbox too).

%30 of every battlepass, every skin..etc my friend. That's basically free money they don't really do much for.

People really overrate the Concord thing from a financial POV, SIE were able to completely skate by and deliver a quarter above investor expectations too.
so... it's not even a console exclusive?

Kacho Kacho This is actually 2nd on the Steam CCU charts as I type this (might change by the time you see this).

Why would it being a console exclusive matter here? It's a multiplayer GAAS game that seems like it's taking off.

Apparently PSN members get free skins, so it seems like Netease is focusing on PS for their console offering.

For a game that peaked at 1.3M, it’s crap.
It took like 3 years to drop to that amount.

There is literally no game other than Counterstrike that keeps 1.3m people interested for more than 3 years.

Again, 30k is more than adequate, it's not amazing, but it's in the ballpark of Helldivers 2 or Overwatch 2.

I'm more curious to know if there's lasting interest in this, or if people are just checking it out because it's new and free.

A 3rd person Overwatch game is going to be huge. I'm surprised it took this long, honestly. Cosmetic sales going to be crazy

Also, is there any God damn way to mute the 8 year old girl sounding announcer? Feel like I'm playing a JRPG like Tales of Arise. That alone, will probably stop me from playing the game

The closed beta was similarly huge (coincidentally that happened at the exact same time as Concord lol), and I'm seeing a lot of organic hype for it on Twitter.

I don’t think it would have ever maintained 1.3M, but somewhere in the 100K ballpark. It’s getting beaten out by much older games like PUBG and Stardew Valley.

There’s no cross-platform progression, so those skins are exclusive to PS5 and no way to have them on PC or Xbox.

oh, both original statements are weird then

Sony must be seething after their Concord disaster

although it's weird bringing concord into this thread, there is never a bad time to shit on it.

And Sony making money from it... it's like any other third party game (single player or GaaS) so, nothing unique or special.

Either way, if Sony takes any kind of lesson from this, it should be that they don't need to chase the GaaS BS to make money from it.

30,000 daily CCU peaks for Ark is probably generating 50+ million a year. It's really easy money and is a massive success no matter how you slice it

Yeah, I'm out of the loop on these hipster f2p games. If there's organic hype behind it then more power to it. Just seems kinda whatever when other games have done 1mil+. Let's see how it does this weekend.

Yep it's a move explicitly planned for PS to be the lead console platform for this game (which tracks, the reveal was in a State of Play iirc).
What did he say?
He called it an overwatch clone and compared with that Tencent Horizon clone lol. Came off completely salty.

There are financial and strategic reasons why they need to do it. But none of it is stuff that should matter to us tbh.

I generally don't enjoy GAAS games tbh and actively avoid them unless a friend wants me to join in on a F2P game.

It’s suicide for a GaaS
Idk they managed to secure massive interest regardless of that. A couple skins won't deter a player from a F2P if they see friends etc joining in.

Generally you don't really lose much if you align with the strong brand of the moment. COD for example maintained popularity with Xbox then later on PS exclusive perks.

I honestly think above all you need a good game and this looks like what I imagine a good GAAS game would look like.

Only 650 concords, I'm not impressed. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Overwatch killed overwatch with its excessive banning if you don’t use the correct pronouns to address someone.

It’s a high-profile F2P. Come back in 6 months to see how it’s doing.

Lost Ark peaked at 1.3M less than 3 years ago but now averages 30K peak daily.

That's still very healthy for Lost Ark bubs, and 3 years is a looooong time. That's the same tier as ARK or FFXIV these days

i mean... i don't think it's a question if something matters to us or not.

Even if we take into account the financial and strategic reasons to chase GaaS. the reality of the matter is that Sony of all companies, doesn't need to chase them. in fact, to chase GaaS has the potential to hurt sony financially and strategically. (even more)

No, the game isn’t like any other GaaS. All progression is locked on one platform. You can’t jump between PC and PS5 like on Fortnite, COD, or any other GaaS.

I participated in multiple previous tests and they were outstanding. The game is awesome. I enjoyed Overwatch when it first came out, and then dropped it not long after. But I'm enjoying this more than I ever enjoyed that. I'm sure growing up with comics and Marvel helps.

This has been the most seamless launch I've experienced for a game like this. It's pretty wild.

I find it odd when people scoff at 30 or 20k playing a game.

That's the equivalent of a small city playing the game at the same time. Most game devs would give an arm and a leg for these numbers.

But 80K is a total failure.
