I think it's just the opposite. Winning play in VF relies heavily on the fundamentals, but new players want to use devastating and flashy looking combos and special moves right away. Consequently, other fighting games just look way better in motion than VF, especially at lower level play.

MvC3 is basically the antithesis of that design philosophy and it'll likely sell like gangbusters.
