People like tek that think damage and health are going to matter past the first month are in for a surprise. This game as too much flexibility and creativity. There are going to be people who have a hard time putting into words why they lost. Misdirection and multi-stage traps are going to be huge.

Oh God, please stop this, you're killing me with an OD of hype. I've been lurking the MvC3 threads ever since I saw it live at NYC Comic-Con last year and I've been slowly growing unable to contain my hype, then there was that Wesker vid, your previous comments on Dormmamu and the combo vid from earlier and FUCK, this sounds like waaaaaay too much fun. :lol

Not really.

There's a basis for most of the comments (mango sentinel's color scheme, magneto's popping of the person up repeatedly, etc.) but more or less the MvC2 community seemed to resonate with the random Yipesisms and they stuck and now run rampant.

Was pre-hype for SFIV like this? All of these people on GAF play fighting games?

Where have you people been all this time!?
As many posts as there are in here Marvel is still way more niche than SFIV I would say. Hype was unbelievable for it.

The Yipes phenomenon is quite interesting. I've never seen a regular guy so unwittingly have such a large impact on such a large group of people. From a grassroots to corporate level.

Capcom should do MvC3 promotions with Pringles, the Knicks and Haagen-Dazs at this point "...and in the hype bind them." :lol

I don't think the NBA would be down for having "FUCK THE KNICKS!" plastered all over Madison Square Garden.

I literally said the same thing to myself the moment I posted that then reasoned it all off with "it's Marvel baby." :P

Especially since the knicks finally got a team together. Maybe they could flip the script on it though. Teams getting their asses handed to them at away games and the nba hands out "Fuck the nicks" t-shirts.... nah will never fly.

I'm not sure how well MvC3 will sell to be honest. How well did MvC2 sell? Would MvC3 hype be able to penetrate the casual market? Hype is huge on the forums but not sure about with normal people.

EDIT: We need an OT2 before MvC3 comes out, speed up the hype train!

You can't really go by how MVC2 sold, MVC2 was released at a time when fighting games were pretty much irrelevant outside of the 3D fighters (3D was finally looking non-shitty).

So, I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but the 360 version finally leaked. Not sure how it affects anyone really, but we might be seeing a shitload of footage soon.

And yeah I remember Super hype being > Vanilla hype. Just my personal hype is leagues beyond my hype for Super.

Dartastic said:
Super was hella hype, but I don't remember vanilla being as hype.
Vanilla was bringing in people who hadn't played fighting games since the days of Super Turbo. I think that was the most insane pre-release hype I've seen outside of MGS4.

Professor "What is the standard equation for spherical coordinates?"

Me "IT'S MAHVEL BABY! GET BODIED"

Here's to embracing the hype.

but back to the actual game. what are the odds that capcom would create some type of in-game bracket/tournament mode? i think that would be pretty handy and you would think it would be easy to setup!

MvC always seemed like it was popular with casuals. I'm certainly casual when it comes to fighting games, but me and my friends love MvC2.

"Once you pop, the fun don't stop."

But it's the other player that's getting popped.

I don't think we should judge how well MvC3 will sell based on its 10 year old predecessor.

Marvel properties are much more popular than they were 10 years ago, and fighting games are riding a wave of popularity.

This will meet Capcom's goals easily.

The month before Vanilla SF4 was pretty huge. Super was more or less a slightly smaller group of the same hype. It seemed huge because there were constant threads with each character reveal, but the Vanilla SF4 hype blew the fuck up about a month or two before release when everyone realized it was actually going to be a good game. Personally, I was actively following videos and stuff from the arcades months prior to that.

Plus the Mega Man DLC sales will be able to fund 20 AAA titles.

I went there.

Wow, I can't believe such a touching and eloquent comment came from Youtube regarding the combo video.

"Something about this video has a lot of spirit. It seems more than a combo video, more like just a reflection on the entire community and what it brought. Also, it's like Capcom is saying "Thanks guys, we got you a gift and we hope you like it" and it's MvC3. And one gamer who has the game sharing his enjoyment with us all.

Might just be cause of that damn awesome and fitting song."

Fair enough, I remember someone saying that MK9 was beating out MVC3 in pre-orders in a certain region of video-game stores though, and it would be hard for MvC3 to break 1.5 million domestically. Kintaro said it actually: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=25582646&postcount=1255

Yep, a damn good time to make this game.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be the biggest selling title for Feb.

MvC2 also came out at a poor time, when normal 2D arcade fighters were on their way out on consoles and also heavy competition. Now... You basically have nothing standing in it's way for the entire year heh.

Its only port was to the Dreamcast. I don't know much about software sales (especially for that time), but I can't imagine that helped it much.

Anyway, can't really compare the times to guess how much the game will sell. It will be huge, I think.

This and Tactics Ogre on the same day is just about the best day of gaming ever for me.

you can't really go by MVC2 sales, or any of the vs. games to date. first off, none of the psone versus games were good ports. the saturn had good ports but didn't have much of a userbase in the states. the dreamcast version was a perfect port but again, no userbase. the ps2/xbox version came out a couple years later but it was a barebones port and while accurate to the arcade version there was just no excitement. capcom didn't ship many units either.

make no mistake that mvc3 is going to sell well. there's really nothing else coming out, its 10 years in the making, and the game actually looks pretty good. capcom has done a really good job of building up the hype and people are ready for it. the special editions are sold out everywhere and pre-orders are high

- Saturn ports never made it outside of Japan, unless you imported
- PS2/Xbox (and even PSN/XBL) ports were laughable

how are the psn/xbl ports laughable? they seem pretty accurate to me. or do you mean laughable in that they didn't add anything from the arcade?

MVC3 will sell close to original if not more than SF4. You can't judge MVC2 sales because the PS2 and XBOX ports of those games fucking blow, and to see capcom think Darkstalkers will do bad in this current FG golden age is crazy. More people are playing video games than 10 years ago, and online play on consoles is a standard.

From the pics on /v/ of people looking through the game in XV132 show Jill/Shuma are already on disc.

Possibly even activateable.
