I lost a lots of matches on ranked too. I was like 183 wins or something and now I got 53 or some shit like that. Must be the patch. lol

And people like to wish to our moms to die in those ragemails. I got a bunch few days ago.

Where's my Jill madface win DLC.

We've been through this already. :] Game critics are a farce, especially when it come to properly reviewing a fighting game.It just expose them for the mediocre gamers that they are (I'm sure nearly 100% of them aren't even skilled and semi-hardcore at best,so they just happen to be able to "write" and have a geeky passion for gaming).

It is still sort of fun(ny) to separate the guys who do nothing but regurgitate the manual and the people who actually think they know how to play fighting games and make a bold, but silly judgment. Sometimes we get lucky and can see someone like Jeff of GiantBomb show how terrible he is at the game to give a review context. Anyone know the name of the guy who wrote the Edge MvC3 review?

Here is a few basic Spencer corner combos for beginners. Nothing that special, but just thought I would share.

Good use of the dormammu assist.

Here is the bnb i'm working on personally:

It's not too hard, but the timing is tricky, the standing L has to come out fast, but you have to delay the zip grab after the low H. Too fast and it cancels, making the low H not even come out.

and also some flashy "im gunna waste all my meter" shit:

Spencer players on GAF stand up!

I always do this when I have a full team and there's 30 seconds or less on the clock. I gotta stall until she at least uses X-Factor.

So fun.

Sometimes I feel like Dante is broken. Jesus. He has so many tools. Sooo many tools. Teleport shenanigans into a variety of things including throws etc, he can interupt any of his LMH combo string with S+M and light jump for an overhead, I don't even know.

I'd hate to play against a good Dante.

Three characters only is killing me on the Capcom side. I wanna support Ryu, Jon Talbain, Gene & Vergil all the same, but Strider & X must always get their votes. Ah well, I'll random pick and see what happens for my third.

Marvel is easy as hell though - Juggernaut (BITCH!), Ms. Marvel & Dr. Strange.

Not to mention the awesome range on most of his normals

There's a handful of guys around who actually have experience with general gaming and game history. A friend of mine who is about as hardcore as I am does do some writing (I'm always cautious about who to say I know, people get into trouble for the stupidest things). For example, he would have gotten to review MvC3 for a magazine, but the editor gave it to a person who I have heard is a total nub and moron - why? Because the nub can "write to our audience" aka, talk like a bro.

FINALLY got my guide in the mail from Amazon after tracking stated it was running around circles in my city for the past week. I got some studying to do. . .

Seriously. I'm torn between Phoenix Wright, X, Gene and Strider. (Strider is a must, though)

Voted Ms. Marvel, Ghost Rider and Juggernaut for Marvel.

I went...

Marvel
Dr. Strange
Ms. Marvel
Psylocke

Reason: Dr. Strange could be interesting, Ms. Marvel has a better chance than Rouge and Psylocke is cool in my book.

Capcom
Gene
Jin Saotome
Jon Talbain

Reason: Gene needs all the support he can get since Megaman and Strider will take top spots. Jin needs the votes and I forgot to vote for him in the first round. Jon would just be an awesome and unique addition to the cast(he would also pair well with Amateratsu I think).

Should the people who design, market, sell, and distribute fighting games also be "good" at them? Do sports writers need to be good at the sports they write about? Do music critics need to be professional musicians?

Reviewers need to be able to write. They need to know the genre and the medium inside and out. They need to be able to speak authoritatively about a game, and they need to have an acute eye for design details. But they certainly don't need to be good at the games they review. It's a fine line between being an expert gamer and an expert reviewer, but any editor worth his/her salt should be able to make that call without hesitation.

Wow, so many of my character votes didn't make it through, and the number of votes per person was reduced.

It was kinda tough narrowing it down.

Dr. Strange/Iron fist/Gambit
Frank West/Phoenix Wright/I don't even remember

Here's hoping these polls mean nothing, and the characters I want that didn't get votes make it in :( .

Yeah PSN has been dead the last few days , it don't help that there's no spec mode and the game has the worst lag in any fighting game i played so far .
Still i am on almost every night , hope we start seeing more people back again .

Low/medium price sticks are usually the Mad Catz SE Fight sticks. Not sure how easy it is to find the Hori fighting stick 3 or the other one for the 360 (forget the model name).

Has anyone tried those marvel pads with the clicky mini joystick/analog hybrid?

EDIT: Yeah Shadow mode doesnt seem that interesting. I mean for a few fights just to see how they play? Sure. But i'm really hoping spectator mode hits soon...sucks to be restricted to 3-4 player rooms just so people dont get bored and quit while waiting.

Lobby music is extremely cool though, so it'll be nice to have a choice between the two.

alright i'll check those out thanks.

Having the same problem, but its ALL my wins. For a while I had a higher win streak then wins. However, its correct when it shows your stats at the end of a match.

Anyone not voting for Gene needs to be launched into outer space with a heavenly bat.

I've not even played God Hand, and I might as well, anything to combat the 1,001 MegaMan choices on the list. Sad that none of my classic side scrolling beat-em-up characters would ever make the list in a thousand years. Sorry Linn and Moriah.

Defensive much?

Let me clarify. The guy who got to do the MvC3 review in the case I am alluding to is a moron. He will misrepresent the game much as the Edge review of shame does and won't even know what he should talk about. The only reason he got it is because his perceived as writing in a "popular" tone for a perceived dumbed down reader; it's more of an insult to the readership in the mind of the editor, than anything. The guy who got passed over is also a fine writer. He just happens to actually know something about games, too.

Also, while this is getting into the whole game journalism debate from elsewhere, I'd strongly disagree that writers don't /need/ to be any good at games. Games are not movies, not television, and not even spectator sports. Game writers are reviewing interactivity and play mechanics. In video games, "being good at the game" is to some degree synonymous with having knowledge of gaming. We're not talking about all game writers having to be tournament level pro gamers in their chosen genre. Game writing (and reviewing) typically sucks so much because the people asked to do the writing barely understand the games they are reviewing much of the time. Their lack of understanding is reflected by the fact that they aren't any good at actually playing games.

Having known a few people who write in the industry, a cynical lament I hear is that "good writers" have it easy thanks to the age of the cinematic story-game where the game is designed to make sure nobody can actually fail at playing the game, and anyone can "see the end". It's just that when a game like a fighter comes into play, we see the flaw in the new game journalism framework - that the typical writer can't play video games, and also doesn't really understand the underpinnings of what he/she is supposed to be critiquing. Again, because games are about interactivity, understanding theory and having some minimum level of competence tends to go hand-in-hand.

Also, for what it's worth, I'd say that yes, a good music critic would benefit from actually knowing how to play some music, that the people who design (DESIGN!), market, and sell fighting games should have some competency at it, and that sports writers could stand to throw the damn ball around themselves a bit to grasp what players on the field are really dealing with.

Those polls are a big waste of time that are ultimately going to just get people's hopes up. Seth Killian alone doesn't get to decide which characters make the roster, and I'm sure he's going to exert whatever influence he has on the team in Japan on getting the characters he personally wants into the game over those determined by a fan poll.

Possibly. I mean that's how he got Arthur in, right?

Can anyone help me out? What's a good third to go with a Haggar/Dorm team? I've tried Spencer who I like, but his assists are total crap. Zero doesn't quite mesh with the team either. Any thoughts?

I agree. But the criticism leveled at reviewers of fighting games was that they need to have substantial skill. That's different from just being well versed in the genre and having basic competence (which any reviewer should absolutely have).

And, for what it's worth, I'm no game reviewer or editor, so there's nothing I'm feeling particularly "defensive" about. But I am a writer, and I have experienced first-hand very similar criticisms in a different context.

Your claim about the "new game journalism" is interesting, but patently false. If anything, the line between fans and writers has become more blurred, not less. Just sounds like more anti-casual elitism to me.

I'll have to disagree, and I bet Capcom is *very* interested in these polls. Capcom is in the buisness of pushing DLC, the higher the vote for a character the more likely it'll get more sales for it's DLC.

Arthur's a really popular character who Niitsuma wanted to put into Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Yeah, Seth wanted him in, but so did a lot of other people. He would have made it in regardless.

The obvious choices like Mega Man and Hiryu could possibly be added as DLC, and that would have very little to do with these polls. The demand for these characters has been present for some time now. Unless some obscure character peaks in one of the polls and he or she makes it in as DLC, then it will be hard to say that the polls actually amounted to anything.

Perhaps someone with a beam assist to help Dorm out in zoning wars? Like Iron Man, Doom, or Mags. Iron Man's comes out pretty slow though. Or maybe Morrigan? Her meter building assist is always useful. Especially for Dorm.

Cammy's inclusion in console SFIV was largely in part to a poll.

Marvel:

Green Goblin, Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer

Capcom:

Classic Mega Man, Strider, Phoenix Wright

Edit: kinda sucks that there are two slots for Mega-Man derivatives...with a well designed move set they could just have say classic Mega Man as the base and X as an alternate color...doh! wait my idea would work better in reverse. I just like the OG megaman design.
