Max power! KILL YOOOOUUU!

The Wednesday Fight Night Tournament highlight overview (yes I saw the whole thing and it was epic):

*Dante shows that he can Devil Trigger while doing his combo to add extra salt and vinegar to his combos. That guy just straight up STYLE'D on his opponent's ass. There was one really funny moment when Dante was losing and about to be timed out when he just Devil Triggerered to regain some health. Won the match!

*Clakie D's team of X-23/Tron/Morrigan was probably the best actual "team" in the tournament. So much synergy in that team. Tron assist with its invulnerability and setting up combos for X-23, Morrigan with the meter building to whore use of lvl3's and DHC plus Ankle Slicer for X-23 to set up Tron's OTG really long dual hyper combo to take the game. Really some innovative play her.

X-23 being able to combo after her lvl3 was insane shit too.

Plus the Morrigan Astral Vision insanity... holy shit. That's definitely top tier material right there.

*Haggar Pipe...even Justin Wong was scared of that shit as he almost dropped a match against the PIPE. RESPECT THE CRACK PIPE!

*Lots of untapped potential in Spencer too. There was an amazing almost OCV with Spencer that almost managed to take out Magneto/Storm/Sentinel. I saw almost because he had basically won that match at the end when he got a combo at the end only to drop it and died.

*Zero still owns, his LVL3 is the ultimate team punisher. So many times I have seen this dude take out 2 characters in a blink of an eye. And in this tournament there was A LOT of LVL3 usage, one especially hype one was when a guy was trying to take out Sentinel who was on assist and the guy was like "fuck no I ain't letting you do that" and just LVL3 Dante hyper through his hyper for the save.

*Justin Wong... yeah he dominated because of PURE SOLID PLAY. He didn't drop combos, his defense was tight as fuck and he knew how to deal with X Factor shenanigans. Knowledge, execution and skill saw him through the tournament, not cheesing or taking advantage of abuses in the game. He had a nice combination going on with Wolverine, his low slice into Akuma's Hurricane kick. He pressurized the opponent into blocking and then getting hit with quick overheads. So many times he got the opponent in grabs too. It was just extremely solid and tight play, he also tamed the beast (X Factor Sentinel).

*Ryu may not be shit tier after all. Hulk does monstrous damage as expected (Gamma Crush is the most powerful lvl1 hyper in the game as that gif proves). Storm and Mag still up there.

*Didn't see too much Doom play aside from his new assist which people are getting the hang of. Not a lot of Wesker/Trish/Skrull play either but they are solid characters too.

*People still can't seem to control the faster characters in the game when they go X Factor. It's going to be absurd when they do through, I expect lots of loops, traps and crazy shenanigans.

Game is shaping up very nice, can't wait for EVO.

damn i am loving haggar. i ended up dumping hsien ko in the end. i am now trying zero/haggar/taskmaster. it was working pretty well for me right now. wonder if i wouldn't of gotten such an ass whooping from salva if i had this team earlier on. :P finally figured out team chain combo's too.

How the hell do you block Galactus' attacks? I've beaten him, but I don't think I blocked a single one of his attacks in the process. I tried back, down back, advance guarding....no go, even swipe did insane damage.

The only attack I seem able to block is the lasers coming out of his hands. They still do stupid damage, but at least I can see it's decreasing a little. How the hell do I block his fists and that giant plasma ball he charges up and then smashes down on you?

I hate the bosses in Capcom fighting games. I think they have a running bet with Team Ninja to see who can come up with the dumbest final boss.

So the attacks that I can remember:

1. He sorta moves backwards into the stage and then comes at you with a clap. You can just super jump to avoid his clap and beat him down.

2. He moves backwards into the stage and does a super (a bunch of beams). You can either X-factor to eliminate chip damage (I think) or just block it and take the chip up the ass.

3. He shoots a laser out of his eye. Just move as far forward as you can and it won't hit you.

4. He does a super that takes an extra long animation. Hit him enough times during the animation and you'll knock him out of it.

5. Anything else (tries to flick you, clothesline you, smash you with his hands) you can just block. There will be a decent amount of chip damage though.

how do you break team chain combos? this one guy was doing it to me all the time. still beat his ass but if i can figure out how to beat it then i can probably beat some pretty good players.

Anyway, As bad as that Hulk insta-kill looks, one has to be really stoopid to do a team move at that range. If Hulk's hyper was as ridiculous as BIOOOONIIICCC AAAARRRMMM but with the same HULK SMASH!!! power, then that'd be something to fear.

Shenanigans. Wait until people learn how to deal with this, then things will get interesting.

If you do get grabbed by Galactus' clap, hit an attacking Assist, immediately. That will interrupt him, letting you avoid a good deal of the damage. The rest is blockable, except for the charge up one.

Yea...I just backblock like every attack from him except the grab. Though the lasers I try to avoid because of chip damage of course.

For the grab I mash attack buttons for that one and he breaks free, will try doing the assist..

FUCK YES. THAT'S MY CITY. I CAN TASTE MY COPY OF MARVEL ALREADY.

Any tips on activating X-Factor at will? Hitting all buttons on my 360 controller doesn't seem to do jack shit apart from spaz out my character, but my brother just does some magic shit and Devil Trigger/Powers Up Dante as the last man standing and wipes my entire team

Thanks for the rounds, Akachan Ningen. Your Dormammu wrecked my She Hulk's attempts to get in. I need to be more patient and learn to recognise the various traps you can pull out, and improve my defense in general (hi throw escape).

Dunno, but on PS3 I use R2 plus X.

Press the buttons mapped to L+M+H and S at the same time.

That GIF was done at the start of a match. Now look at the super meter levels.

Unless you play games where the gauge is set to infinite, X-factor is set to lv3, and one team's health is heavily handicapped, I don't think you have to worry about that actually happening.

Mine read that earlier, and now it states that it is out for delivery! Now to wait for the package.

That move was just "created" it wasn't a footage of an actual match. And yes it will not happen in real life situations (mostly because good players don't even use THC to begin with) but Hulk's ability to insta-kill at least 2 characters is a legitimate threat.

Imagine if you called out an assist the moment Hulk used his Gamma Crush. That's one dead assist, guaranteed.

I've seen a few matches with "pros" using THC. But yeah, seems pretty risky and unnecessary to be a legit strategy 99% of the time.

I like the idea of push blocking projectiles: giving the player the option of canceling chip. But having the opponent, who's not in direct contact with the player, physically pushed to the edge of the screen after push blocking a projectile looks silly, imo.

I'm still calling a low handicap situation.

good shit! Quick question, which Tron assist was it? Boulder? Drill? Fire?

Fire assist. Also nice writeup Dahbomb. I really feel good about liking the characters I did from the start, because from every new match that gets recorded using one of my three, I'm not only learning a lot, but kinda feel proud that I'm always picking up the ones that make me personally go "fucking yes." :lol

Edit: Also forgot to mention, I liked looking at the unorthodox style Hsien-ko fights with, but Clockw0rk makes me want to learn how to play with her even more. :lol

Oh shoot, that is really close. I always get wide-eyed when I hear GAFfers are really close to my area. NYC GAF represent.

My heart does go out to the people still waiting, though. I'm never going to preorder a game of this caliber online when I can just find something at Jamaica Ave/a mom and pop store somewhere around here. Or at least I'll never use the capcom store ever again.

viewtiful_dru said:

Fire assist.

It has 3 main uses:

1) It's generally invulnerable, meaning it will interrupt a lot of attacks without it being interrupted itself. Excellent when used defensively and Tron has a lot of health so even if she gets hit it will not hurt THAT much (as compared to someone else like Morrigan get snuffed during an assist).

2) If it hits a grounded opponent, it will keep hitting until the duration of the attack allowing for easy combos. See an opponent get hit by flame, dash in and combo.

3) If it hits as an anti-air (meaning if it hits a jumping opponent) it will cause a free fall state sort of like Psylocke's AAA in MVC2. While it's much more difficult to use it that way, it still has it uses against those tri-jumping maniacs. During the free fall you can easily launch and do a combo.

One more thing I wanted to add is that even though a lot of people are saying that Hsien-Ko is a one trick pony (gold armor, tag out, abuse invulnerable assists) Clockwork really showed some fancy stuff with her. Her swinging attack has insane cross up potential and her projectile reflector (gong) will see her use in anti-zoning teams.

Speaking of Clockwork, that match was pretty insane as well with the Phoenix at the end. Too bad in both matches Doom didn't get a shot in because he was killed as an assist character in both games. :( Hidden missiles need to be used with care.

Fire.

I'm gonna try some of those long Tron combos later today. I'm still soul searching for a team. Once I get the guide I'll probablly figure out who I want to play.

What should I be looking for in an assist? I'm just setting them as my characters projectile right now. I'd prefer if they gtfo asap especially after seeing what Hulk's hyper can do.

That is fuckin ridiculous. I mean how can you deal with shit like that?

Haha, I just realised I played you a few times tonight. You sent me a message about having cool colour coordination with my Modok/Dorm/Sent team. I think you beat me every game though. At least you can attest to the fact that I don't only use one move, contrary to what everyone else who messages me says.
