Use GAF or troll people on PSN chat.

Or porn.

Or watch streams of MvC3. It'd even be better if the stream was of the two guys playing in said lobby, it'd be like you have spectating!

Quick question guys, is there a way to prevent people from using simple mode or at least know when they are. Like if you join a random lobby or friends room?

Some people I play against are either too good or just on simple mode... a major combo each time seems strange...

You can't use Simple mode online at all, as far as I know.

Simple mode only simplifies the special moves and doesn't even give you acces to all of them.

Yo, short characters cause me way to many problems. Ammy is an asshole. smh.

I have met a couple of guys that really try to abuse the small characters. Hulk's heavy attack helps. ;)

Combos are mad easy to do in this game. Simply mode doesn't mean crap.

Ok I'm finally starting to get comfortable with characters and feeling less overwhelmed. Right now I'm running Dormammu/Trish/Iron Man, which is a much simpler team than the stuff I was using before, but it's probably better to learn the game and what buttons do what before diving into more of the esoteric tactics side of things.

My mind keeps jumping ahead to weird traps and resets when I can barely do a simple double jump juggle into hyper combo. Gotta catch up with the basics before I worry about that stuff. I should make a checklist or something.

  1. Learn the moves.
  2. Learn the BnBs.
  3. Arrange the team in a way that makes sense for DHCs.
  4. Arrange the team in a way that assists can cover each character.
  5. Worry about setups.
  6. Learn the general matchups.
  7. Learn better damage combos.
  8. Learn x-factor combos.
  9. Develop a team philosophy.
  10. Now worry about one-off gimmicks.

I'll work on those things and try out the mission mode. Thanks. :)

Ammy works on every team for DHC synergy man. If you whiff on a super that has long lag time after you miss, you DHC into Ammy and rape them. They fall for it every single time. :D

I'd rather have a new appearance than Venom again. Bring in Carnage. Hands that can turn into weapons and all kinds of symbiote stretchiness should make for a good fighter right?

Seriously.

Keep that shitty character out of this game. Better to just retool Venom.

Characters that can morph like that are harder to cram into a 3D game than they are a 2D game. I think the devs stated at some point that that's why they weren't going to put in certain Darkstalkers characters; because the consoles don't have enough RAM to store all the different models theyh'd need for the transformations.

Are you playing on 360 because on PSN I haven't encountered that many Sent teams at all..

Nah, I'm on PSN. Maybe it's because I'm getting up in the ranks (6th lord), or maybe because of my location coupled with the matchmaking system, but I just can't seem to get rid of these Sentinels.

Still, outside of a few of them, they all suck, so whatever. I just don't like the fact the game has been out less than a week and already ended up like this.

Haggar/ chun/ doom

Once i start my air pipe attempts with chun lightning legs as an assist or doom rocks flying across the screen that chip adds up quickly.

Also once that air pipe hits you its time to go for a ride on the pain train. Haggar don't play that.

SF4 online was filled quickly with Sagats. Stuff like this spreads fast.

Thats not true. That was for characters that need multiple models loaded into memory. The game has no problem with Tron, Sentinel or Hsien-Ko. Or Shuma apparently.

Just counter with Akuma infinity and you'll be fine.

Sentinel makes me angry. That fucking rocket punch L with hsf followed by the ball of energy hyper is enough fo fuck anyone's shit up and it's not really hard to pull off either.

I have yet to fight a Hsien-Ko or Joe online yet. :|

God damn, there's nothing more satisfying than landing a huge combo on 2 characters at once. Lightning attack x2 into lighting storm all day long baby!

Yeah Ammy's one of the characters that helped me a lot at the gamespot tournament, but I don't know if she's really my style. Her and spiderman are the same way, cool, but don't really fit me.

Yeah I'm at that point too... but coming from sf sure seems weird some chars have guns, flamethrowers and other shenanigans with a simple press of a button... not used to the weirdness. (lol not simple mode just regular moves + back)

This is the wrong thing to teach noobs. Before noobs start learning air combos and dhc and all that they need to learn the basics. This is why I play people who can do all these crazy combos to me but as soon as i start zoning them they get completely destroyed.

Dante is intermediate? I thought he was well established to be a beginner character?
Easy to use but has a ton of odd utility in his moves. Think of him as SF4 Akuma. Anyone that can use Ryu can play him, but there's more to find.

No wonder I was having trouble with my She-Hulk/Tron/MODOK team, seein' em all listed in the advanced sections haha.

How does Hagger zone? It's all about rushing down with the pipe from what I've seen.

Dat pipe puts the fear of Haggar in people. Not even bullshitting. It's range is enough to keep people from just jumping in whenever they feel like it.

A character like Spiral from MVC2 where she turns into every single X-Men character during a super move transformation, yes. Characters like Carnage are totally doable. His limbs morphing is not much unlike Hsien Ko's arms that turn into all sorts of shapes of knives and things. And his body has a form not unlike Uroboros. Carnage or Venom would make for awesome DLC, I really hope it happens.

I didn't spend a lot of time with MvC or any with MvC2 -- blasphemy, I know -- but the time I did spend with the original, I basically played it like Street Fighter with tag team partners. Once in a while I'd break out hyper combos and when I thought of it, did the team hyper combos. But overall, I guess I never really played the game the way it's meant to be played. Those habits leave me at a bit of a loss with MvC3... For the most part, I guess I just don't know how it should be played. My SF style play works until opponents start doing super jumps and air combos and so on. I played a few (my first) matches online last night and got my ass handily kicked in one and at least took out one or two of my opponent's team members before eventually losing.

So yeah, I guess I'm not really sure if I'm asking for advice or what... I just wanted to share. :)

Yeah, I tried starting with MODOK as well. I'd love to come back to him at some point, but there is so much going on with his zoning game and LOUs that I just couldn't handle it at the start. And She-Hulk is not easy as well what with having to use that command run for so much.

voodoopanda said:

I wouldn't let that deter you. I think liking how the character plays is more important than the complexity. I play Phoenix over Storm (Storm was one of my main three in 2) knowing Phoenix is harder to play, because I like her moveset more than Storms. Storms double typhoon for me takes too long to use, where Phoenix doesn't have that issue with her projectiles. You can spam whirlwind and double typhoon easily, but that's not fun to me anymore.

Speaking of Morrigan, I ran across a Morrigan player who was downright SCARY in Ranked earlier. Completely bodied my entire team with little assistance from their other ream members.

Of course most of it was aerial SOUL FIST SOUL FIST SOUL FIST that I just couldn't seem to get around, but whatever.

I quit.

This game has gotten to the point in which I can't do shit and thus it's not even fun anymore.

I don't mind losing but c'mon getting air combo'd to death is just no fun to me.

I actually can say that I hate this game. When a game starts to piss me off, it's time to take time off from it.

So yep fuck this game

That's a shame to hear. I get my ass kicked online often too, but I've managed to find a few even opponents (I went 6-3 against one guy) and have a friend at my level. I suck too, so if you have the 360 version, we could play. It would boost your confidence!
