So, I got d/ced from live and got that patch. Now everytime I get a fight request, it says it turned it off because I have a different version.

Wat?

As I mentioned, the spidey one is definitely not 100%. X-23, Haggar and She-Hulk are with the right timing. Even if she tries to teleport right away, she'll still get grabbed out of it before the animation can finish. The key is the timing of your super or x-factor to give you enough invincibility to avoid the "Phoenix Force" that pushes you away. Considering that you risk getting your entire team zoned and wiped out. I say it could be worth the meter investment, especially since those characters aren't going to be getting anywhere near a zoning Dark Phoenix.

That part's easy. Timing the hyper so it hits on the right frames is what's hard. I tried the Haggar one for like 30 minutes and was able to jump out of it every time.

So what's the frame data like after she transforms? Like, how much recovery does she have? No special properties on those frames?

No one to play against locally? The online was terrible for me tonight.

Nope. =/

Have any of you had 'cannot join game because you have a different version. Fight request disabled' yet?

EDIT: Nose Master too. Weird.

You shouldn't be getting a fight request disabled message if you applied the patch. Live prevents you from playing online if you don't have the most recent update. Dunno what's up with that.

Startup: 30 frames before cutscene, none after, all invincible
Active: 4 frames, all invincible
Recovery: none

So you'd have to have something timed so that it strikes her on the first frame after the transformation, and I think even a tag out would still beat it.

Yeah. I'm unconvinced that it's completely unavoidable even if it's timed perfectly. Pretty cool if it works though. Pretty impractical too. I think you'd be more likely to kill her if you just saved the bar for random supers or something.

BTW, you got the frame data from the guide I guess? Haven't seen any frame data for this game anywhere.

Did a stress test of it and unfortunately it's definitely not a worthwhile setup, it still beats teleports and backdashes though. I did find something that may be guaranteed against an airborne transforming Phoenix, which can easily be setup by most characters.

Overall she has less options against AA hyper throws coming from Spidey and She-Hulk compared to ground throws from Haggar or Thor.

Dark Phoenix Rising has no recovery frames whatsoever, but jumps have 3 frames of startup. I don't think holding up is a get out of jail free card.
I thought jumps had 4 frames on startup.

Very cool that people are thinking of anti-Dark Phoenix strategies on transformation. Unfortunately, all of my characters either have crappy level 3s or none at all (Dormammu/Sentinel/Doom).

Oh man that team, yeah you shouldn't have a awesome level 3. I bet Dorm, and Doom can probably do it if landed though.

There's a local Marvel tourney this weekend. I'm thinking of going for casuals and spectating, but I am totally not competing.
Maybe if entry was free lol.

Question. I use Taskmaster's "Use Taskmaster 30 times" title and last night it got a yellow ribbon under it. What does that mean?

Just art.

Dormammu's is blockable. In defense of my team, I only like Dormammu in this game so far, and he is unfortunately gimp without good assists by his side; that's the only reason Sentinel and Doom are there. If another character had something like Sentinel Force, I would kick Sentinel immediately. He's much less enjoyable than his MvC2 self was. My Dr. Doom is basically free if my opponent happens to get to him, haha.

Dumb question but was the "naked pictures of your mom" quote described by esrb used in the final game?
That's not a dumb question at all. Frank was in limbo until very late in the game; it would be interesting to know whether that quote is to him or someone else. Some of the voice tracks to the DLC characters are in the game still (I think, or people hacked the disk), so maybe this would be worth looking into.

So I've only played a bit of mission mode and this by far seems like the fastest fighting game I have ever played. I'm going to get murdered with my old man reactions. Also I must be hitting the buttons too slow because I can't magic series. I had the same problem with guy and Ibuki and dudley's TCs in SSFIV.
Yeah man I am with you on that. It's one thing watching the game on youtube and commenting on other people's play and the game's mechanics, but the game is INSANELY FAST in person. I seriously think I need to be on crack to play this game with X Factor on.

Also some of the light attacks you need to follow up really quickly to get the magic series going. In pressure situations though, I just go with the usual MHSMMHS bread and butter magic series. Light only when I really need to.

Fuck that. Compete. If you want I can run some shit on you on XBL that you could steal to use in it and win.

I just posted in the b/s/t thread, I'm putting up my MvC3: SE for 360. Like new, with the K-Mart photo. I love the quality and polish of the game, however it did what I feared and proved I can't keep up with people online. So if anyone is looking let me know.

Certain characters BnB's no longer work when I'm in xfactor. Or maybe they just become more difficult but it seems like they totally get thrown off.

Isn't it a bit early to tap out? The game has been out for a little over a week and is still in its really early growing pains. How much time have you put into training/doing missions? How many matches have you played online?

Besides you don't have to be pro to play with a lot of Gaf who are out to just have fun. Your call to sell it, but I'd give it a little more time and practice. Some people just need more time to up their skills than others in certain games.

Yeah because their speed goes up so much the timing is all messed up.

I'm pretty sure the BnB's work, the timing is just off since you're moving so quickly.

The timing gets much more difficult, so you got to step up your combo game up in XFC.

It's mighty tempting for me also, to be quite honest. The game has Bad Company syndrome - amazing game, awful netcode. I really, really want to learn this game but it is currently unplayable online. I literally cannot get past magic series because of the lag and the game changes my control settings randomly, and, as a result, I feel that if I put any time into this game, it would be fruitless, because any amount of practice that I do will go to shit online.

Before you ask - I don't want to have to learn the game again by practising with latency settings on, particularly when I can't see what latency settings I'm up against. I'm not getting fucked out of a match on the off chance that the connection that I've practised on 'might' be the one I get.

I still have MvC2 on the arcade as well. I might give it another go later, but it's just something I expected to happen after getting caught up in all the hype.

No gold or Xbox version here. Appreciate the offer though.

And lol, I don't think XBL strats will beat Flash Metroid.

Interesting. Which assist of Dr. Doom do you use? Mind elaborating a bit on how you play Dorm with those two on assist?

I'm guessing he does keepaway with dark holes and purification with the occasional f.H projectile for juggle dark hole H combo?

I'm guessing he's using sent force (charge) assist and with doom, probably either the beam or the missles. if he did missles alternating with sent force and spamming the dark holes, it would be a nightmare to get in.

I played with my friend on xbl. was smooth as butter. same experience on psn. pittsburgh to rhode island

Everyone here does realize that Capcom has already stated they are patching the netcode and adding features to online soon, right? Seriously... they know about this and are working on it.
They're even putting in spectator mode as we demanded over all this stuff.

For now just deal with it as best you can. It's irritating but it's not a game breaker. Every match I get is appropriately paired to my skill level and as I've improved so have the bookings it's made for me in matches. Lobbies are easy to set up enter and leave and everything else is just on the verge of becoming something great once we get the patch that will fix the connectivity issues.

Just have some patience is all I'm saying. Do you really want to be the guy next year who is hearing all the stuff people have learned in this game that now no longer mention problems online? I don't. I don't wanna be the guy wondering why he ever gave up on a great game because the online had difficulty in it's first weeks and I just wouldn't wait for a patch.

That's really cool of them. Do you have a link or anything backing this up?

I've given up trying to play this online too

you can't release a fighter in 2011 with this kind of 2005 shit. DoA for Xbox was better online.

I used Plasma Beam for about 100 matches, because Dormammu can combo off of it:
This works with any beam.

Plasma Beam is very good, but I spent about 50 matches in the last two days using Hidden Missile, and it is also very good. Both assists have their pros and cons, and Molecular Shield does as well.

In terms of team synergy, I always start with Sentinel. Dormammu has serious problems when a rushdown character gets on him, and since he moves so low, it seems as though every character in the game gets to start right in his face - not an advantageous situation. On the other hand, while superjumps are not allowed pre-match, double jumps are! I start all of my matches double jumping with Sentinel into Flight mode, and then I call Dr. Doom's assist while pressuring with Sentinel's aerials. As soon as I get my first combo to connect, I DHC Hyper Sentinel Force into Chaotic Flame, and now Dormammu starts off with a full screen between him and the opponent.

With Hidden Missiles, I tend to keep a Flame Carpet down with Dormammu and use a lot of Purifications. With Plasma Beam, I tend to teleport a lot to trip up my opponent's defenses. With Sentinel Force, I tend to use more Dark Holes, because a Dark Hole can actually combo into the full Sentinel Force assist, followed by another Dark Hole at the end of the series. You can also do teleport mix-ups with Sentinel Force, but since the drones are coming, most opponents tend to be superjumping out of them, so the opportunity rarely presents itself quite as ripely.

A shameless self-plug for my Dormammu thread. - you might learn some things here; at the very least, it has all of the frame data handy. I'm adding more stuff as I learn and become inspired to do so; feedback is welcome and appreciated.

I plan on trying Super-Skrull tonight, and Shuma-Gorath is on my team the moment he's released. I just wish Blackheart were here...

I fucking hate Magneto.

The little shit can win out easily when it's down to the wire thanks to DIS REPTAR and his keep away hyper combos...

The funny thing is that finding a match on the PS3 is easy as pie, but the netcode sucks ass from there on. The 360 netcode is awesome in a fight, but I have to play arcade for nearly ten minutes before I get a match. Something tells me it should have been exclusive to get all the features on one console.

God knows what we'd have to do to get spectator mode...

Geez, everytime I'm about to get the "Win 5 Ratch Matches in a Row" trophy I get destroyed by someone way out of my league despite the fact that it's suppose to match me with people of my skill level. I hit a 4 winstreak, and then I fight a 9th Lord using Sentinel/Dante/Wesker. Got wrecked hard. Stupid, broken Custom Search...

Oh, well. Having a ton of fun with my scrubby Deadpool/Super Skrull/Hsien-Ko team regardless. Anyon looking for some matches today, feel free to add.

Huh, so Eighting is in the credits.

Yes, Eighting worked on TvC as well. It's a similar situation to DIMPS working on SFIV.

What a lot of folks didn't catch is the reasons why: IIRC, DIMPS has staff from the "old days" at Capcom who worked on SF2. Likewise, Eighting has people who worked on the versus games in the 90s.

This is the first time Capcom has let another company work with MT Framework. This is pretty big.

Getting this game in the mail today. I'm think I'm going to stay away from any serious online play for a good month while I get a hang of the game...

Now I just hope that I can find time to play and practice!
