Meh, Shadow Mode. :/ Where the fuck is Spectator mode and replay saving/rewatching Capcom? OH RIGHT! NOT IN THE GAME (YET?)!

SMH. BB has it a launch. (S)SF4 had it at launch and Capcom's second fighting go-round (not counting XBLA/PSN releases) can't even get these right. WTF. :|

Shit, I was spectating matches when Soul Calibur IV was out, lol.

Yeah, but how many fighters do you know let you watch two library cards go at it? Card 1: "Yo LOOK OUT I'M GONNA PAPER CUT YOU DAWG!" Card 2:"GET OFF ME SON! I was the card used to cut cocaine for BOBBY AND WHITNEY!" *both cards then in unison* "COME AT ME BRO!"
TvC had license cards.

Yeah I just saw those Tragic vids for beginners, and I think it's really great that Trag is doing this to help people that are new to the game.

Edit:I see a few members from SRK forums signed up to NEOGAF. Welcome guys! Same thing here!

@the people saying WTF where is Spectator mode NOW why you release Shadow Mode instead...

... uh, the game's been out for two weeks. Shadow Mode was clearly something that was already *finished*. It's not like they looked at the pleas for spectator support, then just to be dicks said "Ha ha, we could spend the next two weeks making spectator mode... let's make something else instead!"

If they are going to work on spectator support or even replay functionality, it's going to take longer than two weeks.

They keep starting earlier and earlier. I don't mind though.
The first time they started earlier, they hit +1000 viewers, the first time I've seen them reach that. No surprised they're doing it again.

What's a good complimentary character for Taskmaster + Super Skrull. I've decided on maining both characters but my I keep rotating my third slot. Sometimes I fill it with Wesker or Trish but I'm not sure if those provide a logical synergy.

I have been playing some matches against my friend and he is absolutely dominating me with a certain chain of moves. I know there has to be a counter, but I'm not sure what it is. He is hitting me into the air then juggling me there, while switching characters, eventually ending in a super move. I understand he is launching me up, but how do I break free of his combo once he has started juggling me in the air?

Yeah! isn't like spectator mode existed before MvC3 was conceived! GOSH! ...apologist.jpg

-- in all seriousness, while it is naive to think spectator mode could be implemented within 2 weeks of it's release. It is profoundly ...uh, honestly, ok. Why was shadow mode a priority over 'spectator mode'?

Other than the obvious answer (moola), I'd like to kn-... I guess that is the answer. I'm all for continued support, but this is a feature that should have shipped with the game. I don't care how and/or which way you want to put it. It's an essential feature -- yes, essential. But hey, fun game etc.

Yeah, those videos are fantastic. I main Dorm and use several of those combos with him. And to be honest, I'm a casual enough player that I'll probably never make it past the apprentice combo stage in actual matches at any point with MvC3. I'm a big fan of learning to be 100% solid on easy combos as opposed to going for big flashy stuff that I can only land 75% in a match, so I'll be checking these videos for sure whenever I pick up a new character.

I don't actually care why the game I bought was incomplete.

I want it to be less incomplete.

Because they're charging for Shadow Mode, those greedy basta-- oh wait, it's free.

This is not apologist anything, it's recognizing what you're dealing with, with Japanese developers. Which is frequently a form of stupidity by western standards.

It doesn't matter if spectator mode existed in Super SFIV; this game wasn't made by the Super SFIV team, so it's time to face palm and know what to expect from a Japanese dev. Which means that after the game is done (or shipped rather), then they will dutifully trotter around, peer at the alien technology from the other team, and begin tinkering slowly on incorporating it into their game. And that's if we're lucky. (Which, due to the sheer demand for the feature, I think odds are we'll get a break on this one, but even so.)

Shadow Mode is a fairly minor and simple feature, from all appearances. Everything we know about the situation suggests that MvC3 had several items cut when they had to go gold a couple months ago, in order to bend to Capcom's will to get the game out in this fiscal year. I suspect Shadow Mode was just one of a number of minor features and tweaks that were mostly done, and can be finished up with minimal effort now that the game is released. Actually coding proper spectator support, and if they go for, a replay system and interface, is a bigger investment of time and effort.

What I again find curious about the entire muddy affair, is that they were saying for months that the feature set of the game would be limited "at first". Apparently, someone had planned or suggested continuing to add features after the game shipped.

You don't unless he attempts a team air combo (Calls in more characters while in the superjump), which you counter by hitting S+the direction he input.

Won my first online match and got my first angry message tonight at the same time. Guy was kicking my ass, but I managed to take out his last two characters with Sentinel, I just barely beat him. It was funny though, as soon as it happened the first thing I thought was "This guy's going to be mad." Sure enough the message pops up right after that.

Who is to say that spectator mode wasn't planned as a feature from the start of development? Would it be impossible to believe that it might have been a planned feature from the get-go, and for whatever reason was not 100% ready by the release date?

It's complete conjecture to assume that the dev team started on spectator mode 2 weeks ago. Frankly that sounds pretty ludicrous, features don't just spring up out of thin air, when developing any piece of software it takes a lot of planning ahead of time to get things implemented properly.

People have to hit them in the wallet. If the community boycotts the paid DLC until they get it in they'll make it a top priority. Not gonna happen though.

In no way is a DLC boycott even a remote possibility. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do but bitch and moan, really.

Lack of spectator and replays is some bullshit and annoys me more and more. In SF4 it was one of the main ways I was improving.

I have never been so pleased being so thoroughly mediocre at a game in my life. For some reason, when I pop this thing online to play I don't get angry or super competitive like I did on other games (both fighting, FPS, and even strategy).

Plus, it's pretty awesome to win a game with the MAYOR OF EARTH.

I'm going to have to get in that PS3 chat room at some point. Time to streamwatch!

i think this game is starting to click with me its the first fighting game that has held my attention and one that i really want to learn

now im thinking i should pick up the brady guide just so i can beat up my even scrubbier cousins with flashy combos lol

also im doing better in mission mode though the highest ive gotten for any char is 6 missions cleared

Remember how boycotting left for dead 2 worked...Yeah good times. Idk I take the idealist point of view and see MvC3 as more of a platform for greater things in time.

On another subject Mvc3 has been selling well...2 mil moved supposedly.

Shit even DOA4 had replays and on top of that you can actually fast forward in them. But yeah Capcom rushed the game so we can buy the rest later.

There so many crazy/weird fuckups in this game, but luckily the basic gameplay is fun (usually).

Why have you come to that conclusion? Shadow mode is free, Spectator mode likely will be too just like the Championship Edition/Tourney Edition patches. If you want to blame someone blame the Capcom brass for bumping up the release window thus leaving the developers less time for polish.

True. This was pushed up to Q1, most likely for financial reasons.

Well I do blame Capcom, not the devs. Yeah, I know that those updates will be free, but I more pissed about the on disc content which you can unlock later with money.

Okay, any really, really basic guides to starting MVC3? I've never played a Marvel game before or any fighter like it and I'm really, really bad. I've taken a glimpse at the SRK Hyper Guide but that's still a bit too technical and I can't even get further than like 3 or 4 spaces in the game's mission mode. What do you recommend?

How about not releasing a shit mode until you have better/functional modes for shit that your previous fighting game outing had at launch? HMMM?

Capcom has some weird priorities when it comes to their fighting games, I fucking swear.

How is this any different from disc content that you have to download later on? At least if it's on disc, you're saving bandwidth. Makes me angry when people get mad at the existence of on-disc DLC.

You seriously don't understand why someone may be upset about being asked to pay for something that's already on the disc that he/she already paid for?

They're getting hung up on the delivery method and not the actual issue of what constitutes a core part of the product and what's held back for sale. People seem to get hung up on the idea that it's on disc, like it's all good if they keep it secret on their servers until they release it. Either way, it's done and you can't use it until you pay for it. Not knowing it exists makes no difference. IF they're going to make it pay-to-play, might as well be on the disc.

Eh, I think it's obvious what the correct choice is for any developer. Leave it off the disc. People complain when they find out it's on the disc. People don't complain when they know it isn't on the disc. Leave it off the disc.

Yea, the end result doesn't change. They have finished content, but aren't giving you access to it either way. Yes, that's true. Definitely, however, the perceptions of most is that "on disc = bad" and "off disc = good," so just leave it off the disc.
