Always possible, but every confirmed Marvel character has a variant. It seems too specific.

Idk for all we know it could be Black Widow. Marvel variant covers do happen for characters not in those particular books. Kinda like all those Gwen covers

Asura and Gene in the Season Pass would be the fastest DLC purchased ever by me <3
I'd be shocked if Asura isn't there on Day 1.
At the same time, Ms. Marvel's one of those characters who has risen in popularity by a shit-ton since MvC3. With her being the leader of the Champions, she's probably the most likely to be correlated with the Champions book's MvCI variant cover. Like Asura, I'd be shocked if Ms. Marvel wasn't in the base roster.

What if there's more than one? Why is it only one character per variant cover? And what of the Capcom side?
Wouldn't they have characters on each comic cover? I could see Asura for Thor, Maybe Hiryu for Thanos, Captain Commando for GOTG, X for Iron Man? Maybe Jin for Iron Man? Haggar for Defenders? Ryu for Defenders? Morrigan for Strange?
If we're going by the July solicits, Miles could be Black Cat and GOTG could be Darkhawk

I figured there would be a Capcom because having a Marvel character by them selves doing nothing is boring. The covers could have anything like the Defenders teaming up with the Final Fight Crew or Champions meeting Rival Schools characters.

Yeah, the emphasis seems to be on heroes and villains fighting together.

The flying horses have been shown in the trailer, it's very likely that she (like Thor) got fucked up and dumped on the Battleplanet.
This is probably never going to happen but...
They should sometimes consider making fusion Marvel/Capcom characters that are new/unique. Combine two lesser known/wanted characters from both sides and make them into one complete fighting game character.
Something like Grandmaster Meios + Daken. An in-close fighter with weird gravity defying and zoning abilities.

I can't tell if you forgot Ultron-Sigma or are inspired by it.
I already know about Ultron Sigma but Ultron Sigma itself is not going to be playable, only the characters separately.
I am talking about a playable fusion unique character. I guess I am inspired by it but I would want a playable character from it.
Give me Daisy or give me death.
Man, I really hope we get Daisy and Robbie. If we can only have one though I would rather have Daisy.

Probably Ultron, Thanos, Loki, (kinda) Venom, along with maybe Dormammu & Doc Ock.
I'm hoping we have a good cast of villains on both sides. Like a 30:70 ratio of villains to heroes.

The complete mystery is the Capcom side. Outside of Sigma, the only other one we know of is the character Ryce was talking about. Likely Jedah. After that, it's up in the air. I believe Wesker will return for sure. Akuma or Bison could be another villain rep. Hope it won't be Necalli. Vergil (who I really don't consider a villain, but MVC3 did) as another, and I can't think of any others right now.

Most of these use very famous characters but Pyron Skrull and Sentinel plus PTX are great. Scarlet Viper is cool too especially with that name (or they can use Crimson Witch lol!).

I really, REALLY want the last one to be real.
If your S1 DLC gimmick is "ALL NEW" saving Asura for it makes a hell of a lot of sense.
But at the same time, Asura makes a ton of sense for the base roster.
Put me down for Asura on Day 1.

I was 99% Sigma was going to be in the base roster, but was wrong.
