Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

whats so cool about her?
Simply put it, she's one of Marvel's best new characters in the last few years. She's a huge Captain Marvel fangirl who ended up getting Inhuman powers (namely the ability to change her size, stretch, & take the form of anyone else as long as she isn't injured). She took up the Ms. Marvel name in honor of Carol, plus the fact that nobody was using the name at the time. Personality-wise, she's a ray of sunshine & is quite the compelling character. Ms. Marvel's comics are one of the few that I constantly follow as of late, & has built up quite the dedicated fanbase over the years.

Ms Marvel means that finally we get a Pakistani fighting game character.

That's fine by me as finally my people get represented. As far as moveset/abilities go, I could less about stretchy limbs girl though. I never really enjoyed that archetype but I guess some people do.

She shouldn't be limited to stretchy limbs. She can grow/shrink and shapeshift too.

That reminds me, isn't Rashid from Dubai?

Though as J-Tier said, Ms. Marvel can also change her size as well as shape-shift.

Ms Marvel would be nice but hopefully we get Daredevil this time around. It could kinda serve as a way to promote Netflix's Defenders and the comic.

Why not both? Daredevil seems like a pretty safe bet thanks to the MCU boosting his popularity, & I'm still kinda surprised that he was left out of UMvC3.

Yeah, both are fine. I wasn't letting Kamala out hahah.

I have to hope for other characters until X-Men characters show up, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Rashid is from "generic high tech desert Oasis country that totally isn't Dubai" in order to avoid issues related to the insanity of the political climate there.

There's only one character I want off of that cover

But Dove is a DC character

whats so cool about her?
Everything that made Spider-Man endure through the ages, minus not having much of a rogue's gallery.

Her powers are simple to understand but can be utilized in creative ways, her design is simple but aesthetically very appealing, and she has a great cast of supporting characters. The core of her character drama usually revolves around trying to keep her superhero identity a secret from her family and friends, while also trying to keep her real life a secret from the supercommunity at large. She's extremely likable, in kind of a dorky way, and is also very fallible as a hero. I mean, basically everything that people loved about Spider-Man and set him apart from most other heroes is also broadly true of Ms. Marvel. She's following in his footsteps for sure.

But Asura isn't a guest character, so how would he be holding anyone hostage? Lol

Didn't say he was. He would be holding them hostage, to me, because I don't like him and don't want him.

With your logic, it actually is a good reason why we should have Asura in the roster so you don't have to buy him via DLC since he would be included in the base roster by default!

Asura isn't a guest character so your comment doesn't make any sense at all.

My logic is "I don't want Asura at all" so not really. Ideally he's not playable at all. Failing that, as a single piece of DLC I could ignore him if I wanted. If he's a part of the base roster, then at least he's 1/30-40, which makes it not as bad. But he'd still push out a character that I'd most likely like more.

Perhaps not. I'll explain. It's simple. I don't want Asura, or MK characters in Injustice, or movie characters or otherwise in MK. When I'm forced to buy a DLC pack that includes them to get characters I actually want, then it would be holding those characters hostage.

Asura in a Capcom roster is NOTHING like a MK character in a Injustice game.

Like what the fuck?

It's been damn near a month since the last round of info. I swear it feels it was a few days ago. Here's to hoping they announce a beta at E3 or something. Really want to get my hands on this game soon

He is because I don't want him. Is that really so hard to understand? The origin point of the character is not the point here. I don't want Asura. I don't want Sub-Zero in Injustice 2. I don't want Jason in MKX. I wouldn't want Ash Crimson in KoFXIV. I wouldn't want to pay for a DLC pack that includes any single one of those characters. Single piece DLC allows me to skip characters I don't like and don't want. I haven't bought Guile or Balrog in SFV (although I don't dislike either) and I have no intention to, ever.

Yes because its a factually incorrect comparison. Its like if we were talking about wanting Big The Cat in the new Sonic and you saying "I dont want Big The Cat just like I wouldn't want Crash Bandicoot in Super Mario"

Its fine that you dont like Asura, that isnt the issue :p

You're being disingenous. They're characters I don't want. That's the comparison. Not one being a guest character. I never said Asura was a guest character. I had no trouble with any of the guest characters in Smash for (except Sonic) because I liked and wanted all of them. The characters point of origin is not relevant to me saying I don't want a character.

Me not liking Asura is exactly the issue.

Yeah dude it's crazy how all the DLC characters in Injustice and Mortal Kombat can only be bought in the pack and not individually. If only it were possible to spend less than the price of a season pass to pick specific characters you want, rather than an all-or-nothing pack.

Considering SFV and MvC3 worked the same way, I don't have much in the way of hope for Infinite. If there's one character you absolutely can't stand, you'll just be forced to buy him along with all the rest of the ones you want.

It's a shame that disliking Guile and Balrog has prevented you from playing as Alex, he's pretty sick in V. Urien is cool too. God, I just wish there was some way you could still play them.

Super Skrull's moveset doesn't really have all that much that Ms. Marvel can copy, since Super Skrull didn't really use his stretchyness that much. Tenderizer and Elastic Slam and a few of his command normals. Personally, I hope if they're going to ape attacks from other characters to fill out Kamalas moveset, that they take some of Victor (from Darkstalkers) giant punches and kicks.

Asura was tailor made for a vs game you should probably get ready to get sick of seeing him as there is a very good chance he shows up in this game. Cyber connect 2 wants him in the game and so do fans. Hell cyber connect talked about wanting him in umvc3. They have already hinted at a 6 armed character and dock ock has 2 arms and 4 tentacles. My only fear is that his inclusion could mean gene is excluded as character design wise gene is pretty vanilla in comparison.

What makes you hesitant about Ms. Marvel? You share BassForever's opinion of the base roster only having MCU characters on the Marvel side?

That said, I do expect everyone that IntelliHeath mentioned to be playable.
Like Asura & Black Panther, Ms. Marvel pretty much ticks all of the boxes for a great MvC character.
  • She's grown in popularity since MvC3
  • She has a die-hard fanbase
  • Marvel wants to promote her
  • Would have an interesting moveset & wouldn't even have to be a Super-Skrull replacement
I think she's likely, for many of the reasons you gave (as she is perhaps one of if not the most popular characters not to have their own movie) but given or a shoe-in? Naw. Not as much as characters that are easily adapted from UMvC3 assets and and have general popularity (from stuff like films). This is just me being careful about getting expectations up, you could say.

Ms. Marvel = game needs a stretchy character, and she makes way more sense than Dhalsim or Super Skrull.
I don't believe playstyles ever need to be or explicitly are replaced, and the only way I see that happening is if characters like Magneto don't get in, but even still unlikely as it's not like those characters affect the product at large that much.

I'm having a bit of difficulty keeping up with rumours (I swore I told myself I'd index each new rumour as it came out this time around so it could be easy to reference in an excel sheet or something, maybe that'll be something I'll do when I get some time), but one reddit one suggested Doom/Silver Surfer/Super-Skrull as DLC. IIRC Ryce couldn't confirm or deny that rumour either. And if that's the case then Ms. Marvel might pose a legitimate overlap in gameplay with a character they mostly already have good to go.

How would Ms. Marvel & Super-Skrull play the same beyond their stretchy limbs?

Going back to the Victor from Darkstalkers thing, technically he had the stretchyness at the same time as Lord Raptor and Anakaris who had stretching as well to extents. Also, Anakaris, Dhalsim, and Spiral were all kind of stretchy in MvC2.
