Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

I know we need more females in the game, but I really do think it sucks that we got Gamora. I was honestly hoping for Starlord... and now his chance of being in it are very slim. There would be too many gotg characters and even if they still did it, they would be leaving out drax.

Just my random 2 cents about Gamora's entry.

I like Gamora's look, might be the first female character in marvel I use (probably would have used Rogue), but I would say I'm disappointed in no Starlord. I was sort of getting hyped to use him assuming he was in lol.

You should give Captain Marvel a chance... In a way I do find her similar to rogue. I know there are some that would disagree with me... But flying female that packs a punch title is definitely her.

I always liked Gamora of the guardians and I love sword users so I'm glad she's in. I feel like if Star Lord was in the game he'd be a pretty lame zoner and definitely wouldn't have nearly as good one liners or acting which are a pretty big part of his character(in the movies)
 
It seems clear to me that Gamora was chosen mainly for story purposes, given how closely associated she is with Thanos. She also nicely balances out the game's cosmic Marvel representation with two male heroes (Nova and Rocket Raccoon) and two women (Captain Marvel and Gamora).

Yeah good point. I understand that everyone is somebody's favorite. But Gamora is that "uhhhh... ok..." character for me.
 
Gamora's interesting because she's the only character on the roster so far who wasn't predicted by everyone months in advance. When my source mentioned her I wasn't sure if I should believe him, haha.

Captain Marvel is definitely mine... Though I'm sure with how many freaking gifs i post on this board, you all knew that. As a character, Gamora is just not appealing to me, but that says nothing about her gameplay. She could possibly be the most dope.
 
I never understood why people bother going for Gamora's pupil look, it's easier to draw/animate her without it and it looks better too.

This is definitely a big reason why I like her inclusion. She seems to be the most "out there" marvel pick in a sense. Most people would have though Star Lord would make it in over her, hell some people even said Drax would.

Yep same reason Arthur and Firebrand were included while less serious characters like Wright and Joe got left out. Story wise it doesn't really make sense to kill Ultron drones with paper and yelling (even though that's exactly what happened in Project X Zone with a little help from Morrigan but I digress)

Speaking of Morrigan what role will she play in the story? Hero? Anti hero? Villain even?

I'm thinking that the merging of universes has opened some sort of portal to the underworld (the "Makai Dimension," as I speculated), with Morrigan and Doctor Strange working together to stop Jedah, Firebrand, and if the file leak is accurate, Dormammu. Dante and Ghost Rider might be involved, too.

But see, this is kinda sad to me. That she's relatively considered an obscure character. Idk, just doesnt float my boat. Putting in someone like Yondu, would have made me like "Oh thats very interesting".
 
Dat Rocket fuckery at hand. lol More and more, I love playing with Rocket. Hes that one character I had no interest in the last installment, and find myself loving him.

What I love about this game prior to the last one, is that every character is more easily understandable... What I mean by that, is that you can pick up the character once and get a general idea how they should be played.

the weirdest thing about that is that i've yet to see any combos that are visually interesting or cool in any of those 'combo vids' on the drones.i get their health is always gonna be an issue but even then i feel like there should be some fun starters or somethin', y'know?

People seem to forget that when the time gem is activeted it gives custom combos.

She's my favorite Guardian so it really is a nice surprise. I just hope she gets her GOTG Vol.2 costume at some point.
 
I'm trying to read and wrap my head around all these recent roster leaks and what not but if I'm being honest, the addition of Zero and Black Panther (mostly the later) are the only additions since Ryce's roster a week or two ago that catch my interest. So better than before but still very, very meh. Major props to fans of Dormammu, etc. though!

The Time gem Surge ability is wack as hell because 99% of people are going to just mash st.HP for an optimum kill combo. It doesn't matter what Desk comes up with using the Time gem when someone like Justin is going to just mash Fierce to kill someone.

The Time Gem surge custom combo ability is half baked and is antithesis to what Marvel is about IMO. They should just give it a speed boost so you can do better combos but not be able to cancel the same two moves into each other.

I disagree. Just because Jwong and the pros might just mash HP (assuming it's optimal and way better and still easy stuff isn't discovered immediately) that isn't going to stop me from creating some swag anime looking stuff to disrespect with online


Shower thought: I'd be really cool if the power stone's explosion gave you some reverse scaling on your combos. I don't think Mahvel had ever had a move with reverse scaling

You know you can already do that in Marvel 3 right? Marvel 3 is still the most creatively rich fighting game to exist, you can swag out with anything.

But ultimately Marvel 3 got flak because people just used the same kill combos in tournament play. It doesn't matter what some rando is doing in training or online mode with the game, what people see are the kill combos. This is the path that Marvel Infinite will go into where pro players pick Time gen and get easy kill combos by mashing buttons. That's going to reflect very poorly on the game.

Ugh this makes me think of the crazy shit Phoenix Wright would've been able to pull with Maya+time stone. Just imagine you call maya, teleport behind and then your opponent either has to block forward and low or backwards and high or the get caught
 
Now, I'm at odds on which I prefer. The power stone or the time stone. The power stone helps me out with combos...

But what I love about the time stone, is that if your timing is right (no pun intended), you can actually whiff right through someones super. Ive done this with the xgardian supers.
 
Anyone have any sense for which notable special moves/hypers are missing from characters?

I think I read somewhere that Dante is missing the Kalina Ann moves (I believe there were two of them?), for example.

Chris doesn't seem to have the grenades that create a flame carpet anymore.

Nova is missing his Speeding Tackle super. Also missing one of his Gravimetric Pulses and one of his Nova Strikes that wall bounced. His diving j.S in Marvel 3 seems to be missing too.

Chris is missing one of his grenades (he had 3 now he has two).

Ryu is missing his QCF+S multi fireball move and Denjin power up super. As far as I can tell he doesn't have his classic cr.MK normal either.


This is just from the demo, haven't really seen all the moves for the characters in the latest build like Zero. Most other characters got their moves replaced (like Iron Man is best example, every special he has except Unibeam got replaced).

Notes i have so far. Will be posting more in CEO thread



General Gameplay Notes: Chip damage seems to be usually negated by advancing guard. Without advance guard there still seems to be chip.

Fireball reflect seems interesting and pretty tight timing. The character flashes yellow and the advancing guard text changes color when you do it successfully. I think characters like Morrigan can use it to their advantage where if you get your fireball reflected, you reflect it back at them then throw another fireball.


Arthur: Still seems to have some decent zoning, but never really played him so don't know his whole moves list. Has a new charge back forward move that shoots an upward arrow that covers his anti air and then boomerangs behind him and shoots forward towards the opponent.


Captain America:



Captain Marvel:



Hawkeye: his little blue ball thing doesn't seem to OTG (reported from one of my friends). Seems a little more difficult to rush down with him. May be more zone based than before.




Hulk: Has new upwards gamma charge follow up that shoots pretty high in the air. Can't do gamma charges in the air.

His f+hp has new property where if you charge it to full the animation turns into his old s.H armor animation. Not sure if it hits overhead, but once in this state it seems to have super/hyper armor to it. He will flash red absorbing multiple hits from Zero and then still perform the attack.



Iron Man: Plink air dashing seemed really tough to do with him. Pretty much had to wait for his whole dash to finish before pereforming another dash.

Has new f+HP command normal where he shoots small downward beam. New smart bombs are pretty cool and can set 2 on the screen to detonate. Using TK smart bombs may be good to protect yourself on the ground (d,db,b,ub+P)

Morrigan: Doesn't seem to be able to flight cancel fireballs as before. Have to commit to fireballs for the most part unless I'm missing something. Astral vision still looks good. Want to experiment with her new shell kick. From videos I see that it doesn't hit overhead anymore, but is extremely fast now and can travel across the screen very quickly.



Ryu:



Strider Hiryu: There seemed to be a heavy delay between when you finished the time for first Ouro and activate the next one. Felt like you had to wait a good few seconds before you could activate orbs again. No MVC2 looping lock down.

Command normals call robots/formations as said before.


Zero: Seems slightly less cheap initially. Has new Hyper Max Charge buster moves. Essentially if you have full buster charge then do certain specials, you can cancel that special with full charge into another new special.

For example one of his new moves is his X5 C Sword. You do this by doing Raikousen with full buster charge, then do another quarter circle command with full buster charge. C Sword is essentially a slow start up, huuuuge hit box pizza cutter that causes hard knockdown on hit into free follow up.
 
man I feel like being able to reflect projectiles by doing a well timed advance guard + not having assists already nerfs the fuck out of morrigan's game


now she can't even flight cancel fireballs
