Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Gameplay/Pre-Launch Discussion Thread

Persecution complex? Bruh I was one of the first people laughing at how bad the game looked during it's early showings. Enough time has passed to where I can accept the game is very basic looking with almost no style, but I'm not gonna use that to jump to conclusion that the entire game is awful. I think everyone can agree this game in some areas is visually not good.

Yeah, I think it has a great use of color and great backgrounds.

I think most of the character models look pretty bad and the UI elements bring almost no excitement to the package whatsoever... The UI elements in particular super basic and hella boring. Some of my favorite characters, like Cap and Thor, just don't look right to me. Cap's supposed to be a buff dude but he comes across as meat-neck Gears of War style to me and I kinda hate that. Spidey's supposed to be fit and lean, but I feel like his ribcage is huge so he has a very chesty look to him that's off.

... Still looking forward to the game at this point. Bit of a 180 for me, the breakdowns from Sajam (one on his own YT channel and another on The Recipe w/TastySteve) and some of the uploaded exhibitions from pros got me all excited, though. It's my hope that Capcom does some pretty drastic visual overhauls to the game as time goes on, but the core of the game seems pretty good to me.

Looks as awful as ever. (1) Her face is still fugly, (2) the clothes textures are flat with awful shading to simulate shadowing, and (3) her skin textures make her look sunburned and it her skin doesn't look like skin.

They really should've stuck to UMvC3's art style.

Marvel doesn't care about comics so that wouldn't have happened. The art style is not the problem here anyway it's poor model quality.

Got off my lazy bum and took a look around local shops to see if any had the game early.
Didn't have to look for long as the first place I visited had it for only $50!

What about Firebrand?

I don't think Hulk is weak btw, I'm just not really enjoying his gameplay very much. That could change.

Firebrand seems really great, but just like in umvc3, he is pretty awkward to control in a few ways. Will take some time.

In a response to a post from earlier, let me say that no amount of UI updates and small model improvements will erase this kind of thing:

Ryu's model is off in so many ways. This game is going to have these issues in perpetuity.

i understand the lack of the details in the characters models since Mahvel needs to have several characters at the same time.
MvC3 had a great art style that helped "mask" the lack of details... MvCi on the other hand ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My guess: The art direction/approval is handled by Marvel and not Capcom.

This is why we are extra thankful the gameplay is looking superb.

Its not even details. Ryu's head is dwarfed by his arms, his facial animation/posing is ugly, and his 'hunchback' pose when performing the super is awful.

Fwiw, his gi doing that is supposed to be a homage to his 3S sprite, which would have his gi sorta inflate whenever he did a Hadouken.

3S was a visual treat.

I rememeber when SFV came out some people were shitting on how it looked.

I guess Capcom figured "why even try, bare minimum is good enough"

Ryu looks okay though, outside of that animation.

Man I'll never understand people that say SFV looks bad. In-game it is fucking gorgeous.

I'm glad to see Disney allowed more than just Marvel character's in this time

The animations are fine (imo) it's the dull art style and inconsistent modelling that they chose for the characters that are poor. If they can make them pop with more of a colour gradient in future that would be welcome.

BTW, at 8PM and 9PM PDT todayh, the final Curleh of UMvC3 will be having two MvC:I exhibitions. MarlinPie and RyanLV are two of the players, dunno who they're facing or if they're facing each other.

For the uninitiated, these are probably worth watching to see what MarlinPie, a known lab and execution monster has come up with in his time with the game. We're bound to see some crazy shit.

Details here.

Yup and people said it looked like SF4, and that some animations were from SF4... People are dumb...

It's amazing how people have such a knack for pushing hate so hard on Capcom games that the hate just turns into a meme and takes over everything about the game.

SFV deserved some hate, especially at launch, but not for it's looks. Ever since it's release it has looked stunning in everyway (besides maybe UI) in-game.

Love when people say "wHeRE dId CRaPCoMs aRt deeRictiOn gO?" It's right there in SFV dummy. Just because it's not sprite art doesn't stop it from being beautiful and having a strong direction.

They still deserve some shit for ruining my boy Birdie.

I'll have nightmares after playing Infinite and watching the characters models hahah.
At least they tried to improve the faces a bit.

SFV does look great imo, some minor issues, far from what has been show for this game.

That looks great too me. Just finished watching that MvCI tourney the game is looking very good.

My new Hayabusa stick is rdy

so any impression from early players about performance? are both console even, or is one better than the other? Iirc marvel3 ran better on xbone, and usf4 needed a few patches so it gets on par with the 360 version.

I think they should have just used the SFV shaders/lighting, they look good.

It's not like SFV has a "good graphics filter." I figure they don't have the time or budget to make 30 launch characters look as good as SFV's original cast. I imagine there are also technical reasons since the game has to allot for 4 characters on screen instead of just two.

All I've heard so far are players are saying it runs smooth as butter. No word on any sort of hitch issues in any version yet.

The new Ryu model exacerbates the issue which is part of my point (I failed to specify that though).

My point is that, aside from the idiots that regurgitate memes, folks are totally in their right to criticize the game's shortcomings and it will rightfully hurt the game. There are folks who are casual MvC fans that want an all-around well-crafted game with a better roster and the well received gameplay changes don't automatically override the shortcomings for them. I'm one of them and I'm not going to give this game a free pass.

In my view, Infinite is an insult to MvC fans. It is Capcom USA/JP leads and Capcom JP executives delivering a vastly inferior sequel (as they release subsequently lower quality fighting games). It ignores much of the legacy of the MvC series (missing characters, missing theme songs, etc.) so I cannot support it. Honestly, I think people in general shouldn't support this game either because it validates the decisions they made that resulted in Infinite's sorry state.

But! People can do whatever they want with their money. I'm no one to tell them what to do. Just don't be surprised when Capcom's next fighting game is another low budget effort that looks even worse than Infinite.

I don't like the counter switching effect.

What, you're saying you don't like the sudden and distracting inverted colours?

You're not wrong.

I mean I'd agree with that, but I do wish they might have tried a hard shading filter like MvC3 on one build and get some feedback for people on it.
