Let's pump the brakes a bit there. Arthur's a classic Capcom character, & Frank West is from one of Capcom's more prevalent modern franchises. Both of them coming back is entirely justified. Not sure about why Firebrand's back, though.

As for Chris, he's one of the most recurring Resident Evil characters in the franchise (RE1, 5, 6, DLC for 7, etc.), so I can somewhat see the logic behind his return. That said, I would be down for Leon over Chris, but eh.

A better way to position it is this:

If you could pick those 3 characters returning, over something else Capcom hasn't tapped into, which would you prefer? Me personally I'd like new characters from Capcom IP's not used in a Marvel vs. game yet, rather then rehashing these 3. Maybe if they had done a crazy overhaul on all 3 it would've made more sense, but it's minor tweaks you would see in like a balance change in a fighting game they got as far as what I have seen and read to their core gameplay loop.

Asura, A power Stone character, a rival schools character, God hand character, Breath of Fire, Dino Crisis, Onimusha, Lost Planet, etc etc. These guys aren't starved for IP's to draw character's from for a game like this.

So my statement still stands. Those 3 slots suck when I think of anything I listed above could've had a chance in their stead.

The bigger point to make is that Capcom never really had such "events" for character reveals. We didn't even get individual trailers for characters.

They would release one trailer and then threw on a crap ton of characters in them. We had like 5 trailers total and in those 4 trailers the entire roster was revealed.

Trailer 1 (extended version): MMX, Ryu, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Captain America, Morrigan. Power and Time stone.

Trailer 2: Ultron, Hawkeye, Thor, Hulk, Chun Li, Strider, Chris. Space Stone.

Trailer 3: Dante, Rocket, Arthur, Strange, Thanos, Nova, Spencer, Zero. Reality stone.

Trailer 4: Spider Man, Frank West, Haggar, Nemesis, Gamorra. Mind stone.

Trailer: 5: Jedah, Ghost Rider, Dormammu, Firebrand. Soul stone.

hopefully that changes for the DLC at least :/

Spencer reveal.

LOL

Edit: Notice how quiet everyone got.

People would still lose their shit if that happened today. But you can't get hype over the same shit you saw nearly 10 years ago. So that leaves a total of 6 reveals people can get excited for until the first DLC batch releases. and I think people enjoyed all 6 of those reveals. But 6 reveals can't sustain hype for a year.

They stopped doing those trailers after SFxT bombed.

I guess those cinematic trailers costed a lot of money.

TBH Firebrand was what put UMvC3 on my radar. I love Demon's Crest.

Not exactly enthused he's returned though. I like the stoic demon badass he is in DC. Not the annoying gremlin thing he is here.

I'd be 100x more hype for Firebrand if it was actually Firebrand from DC and not Arremer

I am proud to have put about 70 hours into that game. Fight. Me.

Battleborns dead now it can't hurt you anymore. I played it every day for like a month until a woman I was dating stole it no idea why she'd take that of all things though.

The game is pretty great. It's definitely way better than simplistic OverWatch. I think I put quite a lot of my time in this game and I enjoy every minutes of it until eltiists ruined the game eventually.

Wow what happened to them?

She-Hulk become Grey becuase she was pissed to find out that her cousin (Hulk) was killed by Hawkeye so she's trying to find her place in the society becuase of everything happened to her. (Since she almost died from Warmachine's mishap with the missile or rocket).

To be fair Deadpool isn't in there for her to beat up lmao

Shush, please don't point out the flaw in the picture! :(

I have to imagine they weren't cheap. It's a shame, because they were the best things that we got from SFxT.

Also Capcom probably figured that story mode trailers would be a fine substitute for big cinematic character reveal trailers, and hey, why not reuse the stuff you already made? I don't blame them because the story mode stuff they showed off (with the exception of the E3 trailer) looked about on par with the stuff we got for MvC3 and SFxT.

Really the biggest problem with how they marketed this game comes back to the roster. It's a lot harder to get people hyped for characters they already used in the last game, and it's sad that they blew their load on new characters with the lackluster Jedah reveal at EVO.

Is that a Credo color for Jedah?

Man, I wish we got Activity Reports for Marvel.

Would be pretty cool if there was a SFV character profile thing for characters from the Marvel and Capcom universes like they're doing with V.

Though I feel like the "Convergence" that caused the universes of Marvel and Capcom to collide, or the actions of Ultron-Sigma, or both have wiped out most of both universes.

Actually they quietly retconned it to the missiles not doing much but instead Thanos attacking her after that did it.

whoa what? Linky?

Ninja Theory basically had a panel at GDC going over the DmC art direction. There was a segment about redesigning Dante so that he's less "flair" and more "grounded" by western standards of what it means to be "cool". You can check it out yourself here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_Pz8WiEW4U

While the panel itself is 30 min the segment in question is within the first 5 minutes.
For the record I put the better part of the blame on Capcom rather than NT because they were the ones who specifically mandated this.

There's a grand total of 6 new characters(almost 1 trailer per new character), showing off MVC3 characters like they actually did any work would be ridiculous.

someone needs to compile all the things Hulk calls people when he tags with them.

off the top of my head:

Hit Man (Ryu)
Purple Man (Thanos)
Chipmunk (Rocket)
Ugly Man (Nemesis)

oh thats the Sigma stage, first time we've seen it I think.

Puny Metal Man (X)

Battleborn PR antagonized its fans? Did it try to pass of a 30FPS game playing the same as a 60FPS game? Did it try to put down other character designs by equating them to gay cowboys?

And we were this close to losing the classic series if DmC actually was successful.

They want Dante to be similar to cowboys? I'm not a DMC fan and even I find that a dumb choice lol

I've only seen friends play Devil May Cry & I know Dante absolutely is glam rock, in-your-face edge, & campiness. I've seen this picture before but it frustrates me each time.

They didn't want their design to be like a cowboy. DMC4 Dante had cowboy boots so they were making that correlation (ie. our Dante is not like DMC4 Dante).

However, they messed up using the wrong cowboy image. If they had use like a regular stock cowboy image then it would've been fine... but they used Brokeback Mountain instead (a movie about gay cowboys) and it comes off as being fairly homophobic. This was not their intention but of course you can't read into intentions when you are just looking at a random slide like that. It was bad PR all around.

Ah got it. Thanks for clarifying.

The leak kinda sucked the air out of his official reveal.

Even with the leak him and nemesis were the too "Why?". Though i'd say even Nemesis had more on his side since being a BOW and large character for the RE series worked for his advantage. Along with his armor hype where he smashed through a chun li special.

For some reason i'm not able to see the OT poll link even when I quote the post.

Also, I feel like an idiot, but I still don't get the f(x)-men thing.

No, really, there was nothing hype about his reveal, even without the leak.

Math jokes. Read as function of x men.

Yeah...the optics were not good. At all.

Because democracy worked so well for Fighting Game Weekly OTs, I went through all the threads to collect all the OT subtitle suggests that more than just the person who posted it though was a good idea. And one that I found that I liked when looking back.

When will the thread be up on Monday?

Anyone rip the full OST yet? There's a lot of hit or miss within the soundtrack but there's this really peaceful orchestral track I actually really like and I'd like to download it.

Damn did DR2K hit the poll with every device in his home or something? Can't believe MvC:4 Female Characters shot past f(x)-men.

I think the rules are midnight EST unless the mods would have otherwise?

Soudns good. Wasn't sure if you'd be up at that time to post it.
