I have this crazy theory, anyone who knows more can debunk it.

Maybe Ant-Man is a prequel to the Avengers 2? I know Feige has said otherwise, but maybe all we know is that Tony is responsible for creating Ultron. This is the synopsis of Ant-Man:

Thief Scott Lang must aid his mentor Dr. Hank Pym in safeguarding the mystery of the Ant-Man technology – which allows its user to decrease in size but increase in strength – from various new threats, and plot a heist that will save the Earth.

Maybe whatever Lang is stealing is a way to defeat Ultron? Something made by Pym acquired by YellowJacket? Maybe Ant-Man/Giant-Man will make an appearance at the end of the movie?

I'm trippin, just a theory. Of course it would be hella hard to cover up Rudd's involvement in AOU on set and in production. Maybe I'm high.

How would that make sense when the film comes out after Avengers 2? It would not fly with the general public.
 
I actually thought the first talks of Ant Man awhile back was that it was meant to happen before A2.


Idk, hopefully they lean more into the heist narrative in the future trailers, that would have sold me alot
 
Loving the trailer.. love the casting and i'm not missing Wright at all here.

Feels like a different shade of the GotG bullshit in the leadup to that massive hit...

I'll go get the hot sauce for all the crow coming down the pipe :D

You won't be laughing when his army of ants comes at you.

And if you're a more visual guy, watch the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes season 2 episode "To steal an Ant-Man" which pretty much sums up Scott Lang. And the original Ant-Man (Hank Pym) and his ex-wife Janet van Dyne aka the Wasp were founding Avengers members together with Iron Man, Thor and Hulk.

What are the chances of Scott turning into Giant Man in this one?

Looks like it could be goofy if the tone is too serious. The lead looks a tad boring. This movie needs to take the Guardians of the Galaxy approach of fully embracing its own absurdity, having fun with it.

Even if a character sounds stupid, this can be easily changed by a good writer. There's plenty of obscure characters in comics that have great runs because of the writer behind them.
 
Trailer didn't seem interesting at all. Where the Marvel magic? Seemed like something Fox would produce with the license.

Casting is horrible. Marvel is usually spot on, but these actors do nothing for me.

Beginning of the end imo. It was a great run, and at least we'll have Avengers 2.

He's clearly a sci fi adventure character just like the incredible shrinking man/woman movies and other things you would see on the outer limits or tales from the dark side.

I believe Hank Pym pre dates the Avengers and was a Tales To Astonish character one of Marvel/Timely comics anthology lines. Originally he developed the Ultron AI , pocket dimensions, pym particles, was the first scientist supreme, Jocasta ,Wasp's, Yellow Jacket, Ben Foster / Hawkeyes Goliath technology, and is not to be fucked with.

Scott Lang is a brilliant scientist but needed money for his daughters medical care, and got in with the wrong crowd. He thought he could make the money back if he got a hold of Pyms tech which would make stealing a walk in the park. Pym later lets him keep the tech and serve as an Avenger to start his life over and be a good example for his daughter. And he bangs Jessica Jones for a few weeks after Carol Danvers sets them up on a date.
 
Can we talk a bit how great Michael Douglas sounds as Pym? Especially if you go listen to the SDCC trailer audio of him mocking Lang. I'm not sure whether I want pure scientist Hank Pym, mildly insane Hank Pym, or complete asshole Hank Pym in this movie. Is it too much to hope for all three?

His voice sounded a little strained. He was going through chemo I think.

Ant-Man hasn't had a proper standalone series yet, so you're gonna have to read the Avengers books if you want the best of Hank Pym. Try Avengers Vol. 1 and 3, Avengers: The Initiative, West Coast Avengers.

There was last year's Avengers AI, where Hank lead a team of AIs, and that was really good but it was cancelled after 12 issues.

Eric O'Grady had a standalone series called The Irredeemable Ant-Man that was also cancelled after 12 issues, but it wasn't anything special.

A new series just started - Ant-Man #1 just came out this month and follows Scott Lang. It's off to a good start and would be a good way to get in on the ground floor with Lang.

Thanks for the list. I look forward to reading up on him. My main exposure to Ant-Man is through the Earth's Mightiest Heroes show.
