I believe that many places could be opening up (with restrictions on occupancy, and mask requirements), but I don't think it'll have the economic impact you're hoping for.
Restaurants will lose more money being open at limited capacity than they do being closed. Hotels won't do well, neither will a lot of retail.
People who aren't well off, but are thinking clearly, are not going to spend money on anything but the essentials.
That's just the smaller impacts.
Commercial Real Estate is not going to get back to where it was, which is going to effect Residential too. WeWork and AirBnb struggling will be devastating to many areas.

It'll be nice for people to spend time outdoors, but I think it's foolish to expect the economy to recover until we have effective treatment or a vaccine.

I'm not talking about "economic impact". I'm talking about people being able to work so they don't lose their fucking homes.

source: https://www.worldometers.info/

This one stood out to me

110,724 Deaths of mothers during birth this year

And this one

351,383 Deaths caused by malaria this year

consider we have drugs for malaria, even ones that prevent you from getting it and people still die from it. Even with drugs and vaccines people will still end up dying from CV going forward now.

Look I don't want to be a just a flu bro bro but you can check worldometers for updated numbers.

4,650,557 Communicable disease deaths this year
174,370 Seasonal flu deaths this year
2,722,994 Deaths of children under 5 this year
15,230,745 Abortions this year
110,728 Deaths of mothers during birth this year
41,779,272 HIV/AIDS infected people
602,223 Deaths caused by HIV/AIDS this year
2,942,189 Deaths caused by cancer this year
351,390 Deaths caused by malaria this year
12,343,621,781 Cigarettes smoked today
1,790,848 Deaths caused by smoking this year
895,989 Deaths caused by alcohol this year
384,157 Suicides this year
$ 143,313,071,241 Money spent on illegal drugs this year

All this tells me is that people are probably going to die from Corona for a long time even if we get theraputics and vaccines.

Thanks China.

So? It's already 100k more Deaths than the flu and it's still going. What's the point of These Numbers?

Not everyone is getting threatments or vaccines for malaria. To put It into perspective : 200 Million people get malaria every year.

I'm not calling this the end of humanity. I'm positive we will get past it next year, of we are lucky by the end of this year.
But i've got family getting ill, people that i know dying from this. Bear with me when i get triggered Reading Things like "just a flu"

Looks like one of the problems in EU and Canada was that we literally locked people in their "houses" and then killed them.

Half of deaths were in old age homes. These people are what I would considered "locked" in their houses and the virus ran rampant and took them out.

As the weather gets nice here in the Seattle area, social distancing seems to be not a high priority for people. Tons of visitors in my neighborhood, assuming for Mother's day. I went to a nearby park that recently reopened and it was packed with people enjoying the summer-like weather. Saw only a couple of people wearing masks.

I think people even liberal-minded well-to-do normies are starting to get tired of this lockdown business.

It will actually be worse. Closed, no money, no employees. Open = no money but you have to pay employees. I sure as hell won't sit in a restaurant this year. Too many morons out there. The kind that sees corona deaths and doesn't have the mental capacity to understand that if this pandemic is really rolling on, people will die from stuff that would be easily treatable, simply because there will be no more space in the hospitals left. That's why we need to lock everything down, not because it's so deadly, but because you will die from something as simple as no blood for transfusions available or you will get a multiresistant infection in the hospital because they don't have protection or you will just die at home because the phone lines are full and emergency drivers can't get to everyone. Even 40 year olds have to stay in hospital for up to 6 weeks with Covid-19. They don't die, they just take up space.

Here’s what I’ve been through during the past 2 months.

Late February: a nurse at the care home where I work gets infected - this is the first case of community spread because the health authorities can’t trace where she picked up the virus. I go into complete isolation outside of work because I’m living with my 85-year-old mother.

Late March: 20 residents are dead. 40 more are ill. 27 staff are sick. Me and my mother are scraping by. She has a very difficult time understanding why she can’t go out. She simply doesn’t understand the situation.

Midway through April: after almost two months of isolation my mother falls down the stairs and cracks her pelvic bone. Two nights later, at home, she suffers internal bleeding and has to spend seven days in hospital. 2 hours before her release from hospital we’re told there was an outbreak on my mom’s ward and that she might have Covid19. They test her and send her home.

Early May: my mom completes 14 days of isolation in her bedroom. During this period I cook for my mom 3 times a day while working - luckily, my place of work is right across the street. We only have one bathroom, so I dig a hole outside and use lime whenever I need to ‘go to the bathroom’.

Mother’s Day: I can’t believe that my mom has actually survived all of this. We celebrate with a nice breakfast. I go to work.

I come home from work, and what do I discover: my sister and her husband, inside the house, talking to my mom right in front of her face, literally two feet away, neither my sister nor her husband wearing a mask. This was the result of faith based reasoning - my sister’s fucking pastor telling the congregation that ‘they will not be afraid of this disease’.

I've done literally nothing with this time, and I am really regretting it. Put on weight. Played video games. That's about it.

Why didn't I do some DIY around the house, pick up things I was learning like languages, and read books? I just sit around like a sack of shit and it's making everything so much worse.

Sounds like depression. See a doctor if it gets worse.

Even 40 year olds? Six weeks in the hospital with COVID-19? What about the 2-3 million people in NYC who have antibodies for it? NYC has not had 2-3 million hospital admissions the past 3 months, I promise you that. Every antibody study that has come out has said the actual infection rate is 10-100x higher than the numbers they’re throwing around. Half of infected people show no symptoms, are they making stealth visits to the hospital?

I was reading the comments to a NYT ”you must hand over all your freedom to the government right now” article and someone said 1 out of 15 people die from this. How in the world can we be at this stage and people still think this? This is crazy. No wonder we will have perpetual lockdown, people are scared of the fake virus the media is talking about.

Where did you get this information from?

At the care home where I work we took the serology test on Monday. All the workers who got sick had the antibodies - but nobody else did.

Of the 189 workers took the test only the 27 who tested positive and became ill had the antibodies.

I personally was blown away by that because I assumed that most of my colleagues who didn’t get sick were asymptotic.

One of our guys from maintenance has been walking around like the invincible man these past two months because he and his family were really sick with high fevers in late February and he was convinced he had already had the virus - you should have seen the look on his face when he found out he didn’t have antibodies.

Anyway, I no longer believe that a huge percentage of people who get this virus show ‘no symptoms’. I did believe that before Monday - probably because I wanted to. But I don’t believe it now.

Anectodally, I'm hearing that tipping is up significantly for the first 2 weekends TX has been opened. I know a bunch of folks in my personal circle leaving 100-300%, and been hearing similar things on FB, and did overhear a conversation on Friday that in general tipping at the restaurant I went to had been generous since reopening. I know some dude left a 600% tip on the Friday things opened, and I've hovered around 200-400% over the last few outings. Since the state's only at 25% capacity, I get the feeling a good number of people realize the scenario you mention and are helping to make up for it. Once we're at 50%, I'm guessing things will dip down.

Obviously, that's not to say everyone's doing that, but considering a normal tip of 15%, a single party can cover for 6 - 20 parties, I don't think things are as dire as one might think.

Again, this is all anectodal.

We don't know for sure, but it's clear a lot of people who get it are asymptomatic. Don't let your own personal experience make you disbelieve the data we're seeing come in.

This is actually a really really interesting data point - considering the claim of super high infectivity of the virus, in (what I would assume is) a relatively petri dish-like environment, only 14% encountered any sort of transmission. I think the Diamond Princess was hovering around 20% and a few others were similar, but have not seen a data point go above 20-25%-ish.

Has anyone looked at the sampling of how 162 of the workers go through their day-to-day processes versus a sampling of the 27?

You start putting on gloves and masks.. the body won’t be able to fight off germs. When everyone goes back to work.. I predict an epic health crisis.. everyone will get sick. Because every 5 seconds people are washing down everything.. their hands... grocery bags. It’s a Fuck & joke. And btw Fuck YouTube for taking this down:

Everyone who was positive was working in the same part of the building. Then the entire building was put on lockdown. People were assigned to certain floors and areas. For example, the kitchen staff were, and still are, confined to the kitchen.

There must have been some massive population explosion in NYC for the 14,9% positive result to translate to '2-3 million people had the disease already'. That or wishful thinking that is going to get tons of people killed by easing the lockdown measures too soon.

Yes we don't lock people up for any of the other things on the list cause there is Prevention/cure for them. As long as we don't have any of these, lockdown are the only measures. Also holy hyperbole "destroying lives" because you are locked down for 1-2 months is not true. And if it is, i's your gov fault.

If govs wouldn't have gone into Lockdown this diesease would have dwarfed every number on that list.

Don't Remember seeing any uproar about this or the Zuckerberg case for example.

"Here's my product. It's free of charge and you don't have to use it, but it is popular. If you like, I can also inject it into you. For that, the cost is immeasurable and you and everyone you know are basically fucked afterwards, forever."

No difference, lol.

Tell that to the face of someone who is now homeless due to not being able to work. You probably wouldn’t be standing anymore.

Again, this is on your Gov. There's nothing like this in any of the countries in Europe and there is plenty of them that went into stricter lockdown tan any State in the US.
If you want to criticise something, than criticise your gov for not being prepared for things like these.

Also leaving this here without a comment, since it does not need any:

Youre not the only one to say that. My wife thinks I’m bipolar, and has been saying it for years.
im more in to the idea of help your self before seeking professional and medication and in my current situation, seeing a doctor isn’t really possible.

Making lists, getting dressed and showered in the morning all help, but not that much. So does exercise, which my body craves. Will give it time, hopefully it will get better with keeping mentally and physically active.

The best thing I can suggest is to develop a routine where you're doing worthwhile things each day. Make sure, if you have a job, that you're doing it and focusing on it fully when working. At home, take the time to make sure your home is as tidy as it can be. Take time to ensure that your body is in the best possible shape by giving it exercise and a good diet, and finally, most important of all, make damn sure you get enough sleep. Oh, and have a truckload of vitamin D. Good luck.
