Matrix Revolutions came out 10 years ago

The whole trilogy could benefit of some CG remake.
At the time it was good but nowadays you can easily see what is CG and what isn't (aside the crazy stuff that happens)

They never should of made the sequels, imo. Even though they're okay, they don't hold a candle to the original. Animatrix was beautiful, though.

People dont shit on the sequels enough compared to the prequels of Star Wars. I actually enjoyed the prequels.

Especially with how the 1st Matrix ended, it was fucking perfect.

That's because they are objectively better movies.

For example even the worst actors and performances in the sequels cannot compare to the awfulness of young Anakin and Jar Jar.

I was hoping they do that, the CGI in the first two films are downright laughable. Unfortunately they are exactly optical effects which can be cleaned up and leave purists happy.

I liked it but i liked equilibrium better

I personally think it doesn't get enough flak. What a shitty movie.
Agreed.
I think The Matrix sequels are probably the worst big budget mainstream movies outside of the Star Wars prequels, the screenplays of these movies are mind-bogglingly bad and it has some of the worst dialog ever put on film.

Did anyone else see the world premiere? It was at 9am ET here on the east coast. The world had live, simultaneous premiere screenings based on time zone. I thought that was fucking righteous.

It definitely felt amazing knowing the entire world was seeing this film together for the first time, regardless of how the film itself turned out.

Still hate it after all these years. 2 is bad, possibly less offensive in a way. They ruined Neo in the sequels and got way too far up their own ass with the philosophical and religious ideas the Wachowski's concocted.

I saw part of it on TV some time ago and the Zion battle is super fucking impressive visually, even today. Some really awe inspiring shots in there.

Im kinda pissed the Reloaded/Revolutions artbook that was planned never actually came out. Would have loved to see the concept art for them, especially the stuff by Geoff Darrow...

Never liked this one. Felt disappointed in the theater and still do.

That being said I really like the 2nd movie despite the flack that one gets. 2nd film had the best fight sequences of any of the trilogy.

3rd movie just never did it for me.

Wish they had the time to spend on Morpheus dealing with his entire "religion" being shattered, but with the "ticking clock" plot it wasn't really possible.

Mech fight was actually really great, Blind Neo / Human Smith / Trinity Death / Robot AI Babyface were all stupid.

I always thought that Reloaded was the real letdown of the bunch. Revolutions is at least coherent and some of the action is amazing. To be honest I don't think it's any better or worse than most trilogy conclusions.

Both sequels get way too much shit. They were letdowns, but still pretty cool movies. Reloaded has the highway chase and Revolutions has the mech fight, both of which are insane setpieces even 10 years later.

That said they didn't really go where I was hoping with the storyline, and they did ruin Neo. Both sequels also have some shit scenes that drag them down, would love to see them edited into one 3-4 hour film.

Agreed.

WOW. Talk about hyperbole.

In what universe does eg Transformers have better dialog/script?

Yeah. Too bad ebooks weren't a thing at that time, they would probably have release them at least digitally (no printing etc cost).

Yeah he went to far on that one. I immediately thought of transformers Twilight and the rest. I may not have LOVED Matrix's sequels, but they were not Twilight territory.

To be fair he said "big budget" and the Twilight films do not fit the description (but they sure do fit the mainstream tag).

However you can replace them with X-Men Origins: Wolverine or whatever and the point still stands.

As for scenes, the lobby shootout has been indeed inspired by GitS and then there's the couple of seconds with the exploding watermelons, that's about it.

There was also the iconic way the first Agent does his rooftop landing when he's chasing Trinity at the beginning.

GitS is undoubtedly an influence on the series. When they pitched the movie, didn't they show Joel Silver the anime and say something like "We want to do this but for real"?

All i remember was leaving the cinema with a mild headache after watching what seemed to be 2 and a half hours of some black guy screaming and shooting robot squids

That shot doesn't really scream GitS to me.

In fact ask Dark City fans and they will tell you the whole scene was "stolen" from Dark City (which is not true either).

Warner's Lorenzo di Bonaventura bought the script in 1994. I don't know when Silver joined but he has indeed said they showed him scenes from GitS and told him they want to do it for real.

The 1997 draft was the first to incorporate the lobby shootout, which is obviously the "we want to do GitS for real" element, which makes sense since living in the US they wouldn't have the chance to watch GitS until 29 March 1996 (according to imdb).

Interesting. When I saw it for the first time that was the very first thing that sprang to mind. I'm fairly sure there was a Channel 4/FilmFour documentary about the influences on the Matrix and that particular scene was brought up. Not sure if the Wachowski's were the ones to say it... I think you may be slightly downplaying the influence GitS had on the film.

Ask Grant Morrison and he will tell you that the thematic concerns, along with key scenes, of the first film were lifted wholesale from the Invisibles.... ;P

I can remember it all too well. In 2003 I was smitten with all things Matrix. The Animatrix was really the central piece that justified the love. Reloaded had an amazing trailer, and while the film was greatly uneven, it still brought some amazing spectacle.

I found a naive friend who had no idea what The Matrix was (just amazing 4 years after the utter phenomenon that was the first movie). I showed him the perfect first viewing: no knowledge of what it was. It blew his mind. And he got to see my newly released DVD of Reloaded the next day. Must have been a lot to process.

We saw Revolutions in theaters days later and despite this intense love... We assembled in the parkade stairwell right after and quickly admitted the truth: "that sucked".

We've been there already. It's BS.

Ask Jack Chalker and he will tell you they copied his work, just like The Thirteenth Floor's producers did (hint: neither did):

Been getting some mail about the motion picture The Matrix noting just how many elements of it were lifted almost verbatim from The Wonderland Gambit. It's true, and they stole them and that's why I got nothing, no credits, no money, from it. Were I in better shape financially it would be worth going after them, but, alas, unless you know a contingency lawyer with Hollywood experience willing to take it on it's just going to have to be another rip-off that Hollywood is famous for. And if they don't like me saying that, then let them sue me! Oh—that goes for The Thirteenth Floor, too, but nobody saw that one and at least they credited the late Dan Gallouye for the heart of it....

I think Larry/lana Wachowski's influence had a negative impact on the Matrix sequels. That was a wierd time for him/her.

True.

The siblings develop their ideas together, arriving at a common vision after a long process of creative negotiation; by the time they’re on the set, all possible disagreements have been worked out. Their relationship, if anything, has improved since Larry became Lana. “She’s a lot easier to work with than Larry,” Andy told me. “Understandably, Larry had issues, but he could take them out on people. On me. Lana is much more open-minded.”

At the same time, Larry, who had separated from his wife, was dealing with depression and struggling with his gender situation. During the production, he told Andy that the reason he went swimming in the bay every morning, rather than in the pool, was that he was half hoping to be hit by a boat or attacked by a shark.

I'm just messin', man, hence the ;P

;P

I think the only part I liked about the 3rd movie was the cg of those octopus robots. When they first penetrated Zion and there was so many that it looked like ink being squirted into water. That was probably the most impressive CG I've ever seen. It felt like some emergent phenomenon, which made it seem somehow very realistic and somehow scary on an existential level.

Too bad every single other part of the film was bad. There was some Neo Jesus moment but I don't think I even understood what the fuck was going on there. Nor did I care to revisit it or even think about it. I've actually avoided thinking about Neo Jesus from the time I saw it until now because I felt like it would ruin the other movies. I've never rewatched Revolutions since I saw it opening day.

^ I would read the fuck out of an honest Lana autobiography.

Transgender Issues x Working on a zeitgeist-capturing movie trilogy... Damn...

I loved it. Saw it on the cinema at the time of the worldwide release, which meant I missed a field trip in school to watch it. It was totally worth it.

It would be fascinating but unless Lana believes it will really help transgender people I don't think she would like to share (even more) details about her personal life.

Loved all 3; watch them anytime they are on. They get a ton of shit because of how good and revealing the first one was. I would love for them to make more.

I don't think Reloaded and Revolutions are bad movies, but I wish they were never made. The Matrix should have ended with Neo flying off into the sky. Everything they tacked on in the other 2 movies kind of sullies how amazing the first movie was.

I love the part where the red headed doctor lady immediately drops dead from having a tiny scalpel stuck in her belly. I burst out laughing in the theatre when that happened.

I feel like I should watch 2 and 3 again sometime as I really only barely remember either of them, as opposed to the first which I could practically act out in a one man show from having seen it so many times.

What I really want is a full-length version of a couple of the shorts from Animatrix, particularly The Second Renaissance. Something about that whole thing just really works for me and I'd love more of it.

Oh yes, that would be amazing.
