Maybe Dumb iPod Question #3234: What Is The Deal With iTunes?

I apologize for the constant stream of iPod questions; I assumed at this point I would have figured out everything. Anyway...

Up to this point, I've been adding playlist to the iPod manually, via drag and drop (I'd drag a playlist from the iTunes library onto the iPod icon in the same column).

Well I was sick of dragging and dropping hundreds of playlists, so I decided to use the "Automatically update all songs and playlists" option. I got some weird dialogue box saying that my iTunes library was going to changed or whatnot (I really didn't understand waht was being asked) and clicked yes.

After a few minutes, my iPod was totally updated. But for some reason, it has a hard time mounting; after quitting and restarting iTunes and even removing the iPod a few times. I finally clicked the eject button next to the iPod in iTunes and everything was finally set.

But after plugging it back in, when I try to view the contents of playlists on my Ipod, I get the playlist names, but there's no songs listed. WTF? Did I do something wrong? What's going on here? Any thoughts?

Oh god... I hope you didn't have much stuff on there.

See, what that does is automatically update your iPod based on what's in your iTunes. So, basically, you just dumped out the contents of your iPod and updated what was in the iTunes playlist: NOTHING.

Sorry, man. I did this too... I had half of my CD collection on there (about 125 or so CDs).... that is some crazy time lost.

No, he says he was copying playlists onto the iPod from within iTunes anyway, so automatically syncing with iTunes wouldn't have lost anything.

Just sounds like for some reason the copying was interrupted and the iPod has got corrupted. Use the iPod Updater utility to reformat the iPod (choose Restore), then when iTunes asks you if you want to sync your library with the iPod choose Yes and let it copy everything again.
