The only way I could see someone justify this would be if this person had a Wii and not a DS and had a debilitating eye condition that meant that they needed to play it on a large screen.

So that's like 6 copies justified. What about the rest?

Maybe they were for the same households that had one Wii and one DS, but not two DSes?

The Japanese public are the failures here. Square Enix insults them by giving them a port of a handheld game and 22,000 of them go out and buy it in its first week because it says "Final Fantasy" on it somewhere. Twenty-two thousand.

That's the real failure here.

Aren't they the same price? Why the fuck would you care if people choose one system over another to get basically the exact same experience?

Its time for a renewed push/announcement of core-type Wii software to coincide with the Motion+ blowout. Maybe that Nintendo conference following GDC will have something. :lol

We shall certainly see. Otherwise, a lot of people are going to look very foolish...

Is there much of a price difference between the DS and Wii versions? I've been playing the DS game and really enjoying it, since it's pretty much RoF with a few changes.
Its going to be the same cost for both systems. SE is doing the normal $40 SE DS game, but is lowering the Wii games to $40.

Same game, same price...Then it doesn't really matter what system you play it on.

Should be obvious to Namco now that they need to release a mainline Tales on PSP.

Yes, it makes financial sense.

The question is if this future mainline games will be outsourced like Tales of Innocence and Radiant Mythology or done in-house like Tales of Hearts, Tales of the Abyss, and Tales of Vesperia.

Someone in the previous thread said that Ninja Blade's shipment was only 12k, so it appears as though From and Microsoft pretty much knew that the game would sell jackshit in Japan. They're probably banking on NA to make up its sales, although the release date (mid-March) is coming at a fairly crowded time during the spring, so the game may not even perform that well in the US either.

Well, going by these treads' logic lately: Ninja Blade must be a huge success, 81% sell trough OMFG !!!!!!!!

Nah. It's been out of the Top 30 in Media-Create lots of times. Most recently the week of 11/3-9, 2008.

oh, it must have been City Folk that resurrected it~ But now it's gone, and I don't know if it will ever be back.. >_<;;

Given the initial shipment of DS version is 300k, I think it’s bad, as many retailers moan.

I wonder if this is a sign that the Crystal Chronicles franchise is not what Japan likes or if the Final Fantasy label is finally showing hints of fatigue.
Considering the numbers Dissidia pulled in December, nah, though I wish.

hmmm.... i wonder if the revived PSP sales are a product of the recently uncrackable models....
speaking of that, what are the currently uncrackable PSP models? i've heard the 3000 hasn't been cracked yet and some 2000 models are in the same boat.

on another topic, i think the crystal chronicles label should be killed. call the games "FF: (something)" and stop sticking that label there. at this point, it is the japanese version of EA's "all play" label.

Ring of Fates didn't fare too badly...and isn't My Life as a King performing strongly on WiiWare over there? I don't think it's a complete failure as a spin-off franchise. I think that if FFCC on GC was brought back as part of the Play on Wii series, using DS-Wii Wi-Fi link-up it might help...

What are some upcoming big title releases? Demons Souls, Yakuza 3, SO4 etc. Whats there release dates and expected sales? Will the PS3's games (Demons Souls, Yakuza) outdo SO4 on the 360?

Do we have some sales numbers for My Life as a King (or for any other WiiWare games)? Or did Square Enix say that My Life as a King is preforming strongly? :)

Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter 4 (unless those goes under "etc." as you mentioned :)) as well :)

I think that Yakuza 3 will outsell Star Ocean 4 on the Xbox 360, but i dont think that Demons Souls will outsell SO4. If Deamons Souls outsells SO4, then i would be surpirsed at least :)

EDIT: I added some text.

Sorry yeh, I should have said exclusives. That said, PS3 Resi 5 and SF4 will pretty much stomp 360 numbers which is a given anyway.

That's sad in so many ways.

With the release of SO4 could we see the 360 actually cross streams with the Wii? Now THAT would be crazy. I think. It hasn't happened before has it?

Ah ok, exlusive titles only :) Then i think that you mentioned them all :) We also have Killzone 2 for the PS3, but Killzone 2 wont be out in Japan before the 23th of April, so it is still a while until that game comes out.

Usually first person shooter games doesnt really sell that well in Japan though, at least not when you compare it to how first person shooter games sells in America and in Europe, but i think it should be interesting to see how Killzone 2 sells in Japan.

Ye, the PS3 version of Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter 4 will most likely sell much more compared to how the Xbox 360 version of these 2 games will sell. I think it should be interesting to see how the sales will be though :)

It should be interesting to see how many Xbox 360 consoles that would be sold in Japan when Star Ocean 4 will get released. I dont know if the Xbox 360 can cross the streams with the Wii the week when SO4 gets released, but the Xbox 360 has sold over 20k consoles in some weeks after it was launched, so i guess it is not 100% impossible :) But i think it is too likely that it will happend. Unfortunately i dont remember why the Xbox 360 sold like 20+ consoles in some weeks, but i think one of the weeks was due to a price drop on the Xbox 360 console at least.

EDIT: I think the lowest week for the Wii hardware sales has been at around 20k for one week of sales, but i think that the reason for this was due to some supply problems.

Ye, I dont think the Xbox 360 has crossed the streams with the Wii yet as you say :) The Xbox 360 has crossed the streams with the PS3 though 2-3 times or something though if i am not mistaken :)

Man, when are Japanese devs working on 360 exclusives going to realize that it's just plain pointless? I really thought the 360 had turned a page around last October, but things have been tailing off quite a bit, especially for games sales. How the heck can SE feel "Bullish" about the 360 in Japan for 09 when games like Ninja Blade can't even crack 10k?

I tried PES08 for PSP and it was "real" version, not gimped whatsoever... unlike fifa for pes, which was arcade game and nothing like fifa for ps3. So it is not suprising to see PSP version doing better and better as platform sells well.

The 360 has crossed streams with the Wii in either Famitsu or Media-Create at least once, but I don't recall which. It had a string of like 7 straight weeks where it was above the PS3, though, in addition to a couple of other one-off weeks where those two crossed.

PES PSP is still gimped, not in gameplay but in stadiums, no replays, no commentators,...

But yeah, i'm glad it's improving every year. This year we have online and the be-a-pro mode.

Are you sure? I just checked over at Garaph.info and i didnt see that the Xbox 360 crossed the streams with the Wii, both looking at the Famitsu and at the Media Create data.

EDIT: Seems that i did something wrong on the charts, sorry, i am trying to do it right now :)

EDIT 2: Ye, you are absolutely right. The Xbox 360 crossed the streams with the Wii one week in the Famitsu hardware data.

http://garaph.info/linecompare.php?weeks=170&sum=0&width=&height=&title=&ymin=&ymax=&html=2&sys%5B0%5D=X360&date%5B0%5D=2005-12-05&sfd%5B0%5D=&std%5B0%5D=&gr%5B0%5D=&tra%5B0%5D=fam&sys%5B1%5D=Wii&date%5B1%5D=&sfd%5B1%5D=&std%5B1%5D=&gr%5B1%5D=&tra%5B1%5D=&sys%5B2%5D=&date%5B2%5D=&sfd%5B2%5D=&std%5B2%5D=&gr%5B2%5D=&tra%5B2%5D=&sys%5B3%5D=&date%5B3%5D=&sfd%5B3%5D=&std%5B3%5D=&gr%5B3%5D=&tra%5B3%5D=&sys%5B4%5D=&date%5B4%5D=&sfd%5B4%5D=&std%5B4%5D=&gr%5B4%5D=&tra%5B4%5D=&sys%5B5%5D=&date%5B5%5D=&sfd%5B5%5D=&std%5B5%5D=&gr%5B5%5D=&tra%5B5%5D=

At week number 145 in the graph that i linked to above here the Xbox 360 outsold the Wii with 1624 units to be precise :) The Media Create hardware data had the Wii outselling the Xbox 360 with 1498 units in the same week (in week number 145 on the graph that i linked to above here), so in the Media Create hardware data, there the streams didnt cross.

I did a mistake by comparing the weeks from launch on both the Wii and on the Xbox 360 side by side at first, but since the Xbox 360 launched before the Wii, then this was the wrong way to do it. I am sorry about that! :(

But its a bit weird, like if they don't now since the year started. Last time GT5P Spec III appeared in Famitsu is 2008 last week, #11 with 60k, but not making it the next week despite #30 cutoff being at just 7k. And it hasn't appeared again.

Either they changed it or Famitsu heavily overtracked it (or MC/Dengeki undertracked it), because it still makes it to those tops easily (#10-20 usually) unlike in Famitsu top30.

FFCC did ok. SE needs to put some new elements in this series. DS-Wii is one, but not THAT attractive?

next BIG title = SFIV?

I guess its possible but what I'm looking at is PS3/Wii in the coming weeks. PS3 is only 10K behind a week right now, and has some pretty big releases coming up while Wii has little of note. Could see PS3 ahead of Wii for a good 3-4 week stretch.

It sold < 5K combined for the following two weeks, so I'm guessing it's reached the ship number that Famitsu has for the bundled version. I think I remember seeing bundled numbers with the first-day totals from sinobi for FF:EOT DS, so I think that would mean that bundles are still being tracked.

Yeah. There was some surprise a game like Fragile even made the Top 10, but being the stupid half of an FF spinoff duo gets you there for free.

True, forgot about EOT. But GT5P Spec III had a stand-alone release too, I guess that Famitsu thinks SCEJ stopped there (~300k) altogether? Could be over/under tracking then, Dengeki has it at 305k as of January 25 (last week), but then it also has it #13 with 16k sold. Maybe they were catching up, or Famitsu is 'catching down', I wonder whats the LTD in MC...
