Oh JJS, I noticed alot of the games in your database are missing launch prices, if you can give me a list of them all, I'd be glad to help you update it.

Here's what the game search returns for games with prices of -1 to 0. 0 are unknown; mostly stuff that didn't make Top 30 lists. -1 are a very few from some 2000-ish Top 30s where it just plain said they were open price.

Famitsu Software Stuff

Animal Crossing City Folk (3281) now more noticeably falls behind Wild World (95) in its third week, but it's still way ahead of either GCN release.
400

PSP's second Musou Orochi isn't quite doing as well as the first released this February.
400

Nor does Saints Row 2 quite match the first week performance of its predecessor, released last July.
SR2

We don't know anything about the first Patapon's sales beyond its total after two weeks (which made the 2007 Top 500), but its sequel's two weeks are better.
P2

Another sequel doing better than its predecessors is PSP's Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3. This one is actually significantly higher, after only two weeks beating the totals we have for the previous games.

According to the interview with the producer of the game months ago, Tatsunoko came to THEM, and asked if they would make a game starring their characters. Not the other way around.

In the end, whatever arrangement was made, I'm sure it was such that Capcom was able to probably get the Tatsu properties for cheap.

So, everything about TvC was indicative of it being a budget release. Therefore, the numbers that were obtained were probably "fine" by Capcom's expectations for the game, no matter how much GAF may cry "bomba". :lol

Really. Well now that I look at the graphics and animation in the game I'm not really all that surprised. Now it makes sense why Capcom barely pushed it.

Animation is fine for a versus game

Well, it's not like 2D fighters are huge anywhere. If I've just released one that didn't do what I hoped in Japan, my first thought probably isn't "But of course the Americans will eat it up!"

No, 2D fighters aren't really huge anywhere except Brawl. Two things, one isn't the number of wii owners in US/EU much larger than Japan and two hasn't most of the core titles on wii done better outside of Japan? Then there is also no arcades for this outside of Japan and ripping out the Tatsunoko characters wouldn't cost much, neither should translating it. Advertising this like SSBB and featuring Ryu, Chun-Li, Viewtiful Joe, Megaman etc on ads. If they wanted to actually put some money into it they could add some SF4 characters and call it SF4 Wii Edition, though I think they would have to change lots of stuff then. I don't know, I thought something like this advertised to the nintendo fans could do well and probably show some legs.

And even if that's not the case, PS3 is "only" down 20%; the Wii is down more than 27%!

Sony has seen the biggest drop, selling 200k PS3s in the same time it sold 340k last year, a 40.68% drop. Nintendo has also seen a significant drop in sales, selling 360k Wii systems compared to 576k in 2007, 37.76% less than 2007 totals.

It's been a while since this post, but in case you still care, my comparison was of year-to-date for 2008 versus 2007; his were of the respective holiday periods (so far).

So I guess it's safe to say the Xbox 360 will finally pass 1 million next year?
I'd say so. 2009 only needs to do about half of 2008 for it to happen. What a year. In summer 2007 there was an argument about whether it could do it by 2010. I tried to produce an example of how it could do so by the end of 2010 using past sales and assuming a certain percentage drop per year, and I thought that was stretching plausibility. I ended up allowing 2010's holiday to spike more than 2009's to make the math work. :lol
20070801x360million.png

As it turns out, X360's current total is where my fake version had it at by mid-February 2009, with the vast majority of following weeks being less than 2K.

So 40Mil LTD are possible for the DS family ?
Assuming the regular 150K weeks of 2006 and 2007 don't return, that seems a bit of a stretch. DS will probably end this year at less than 4 million. If there's then no yearly drop, it would still take well into 2012--nearly twice as far from DS launch as we are now.

Or putting it another way, DS would have to gain another entire GBA worth of units to hit 40 million.

Statistics:

Not that the above is amazing or anything but there was a time when the doa games and doax were ms top games for japan.

My reading of some quick napkin math tells me that 40m is fairly unlikely unless the DS2 isn't released until 2011, but 35m LTD by the time the DS drops entirely off the charts is pretty much assured.

Finally, thx bttb. :D

So I looked at the Garaph numbers, and (pulling a LanceStern) have arbitrarily decided to count an eventual 250K LTD as a "big game". I then measure the days between releases of 250K games as the drought period. Then I specifically make a note of periods longer than 50 days for a further look. Now I'll list some notables.

Really nice work!

but here you need to look at fighters. You do have games like Brawl which C Vs T does seem to have some things going for it, on the other hand you have GG AC and that other hand is really ugly sells wise. It's still a risk and likely more so than something like DR:CtyD, but Capcom has been treated well on the wii so far if that means anything.

 X360 12,900
 PS2 8,700
Very nice numbers for 01. Dissidia 02 and Gundam Musou 2

Hugely disappointing PS3 performance.

The PSP couldn't even beat the DS with Dissidia. The DS is now infront with 127k YTD wise, with two weeks left.

Great Dissidia and PSP numbers

Decent Wii hardware, but way behind last year

PS3 hardware keeps losing ground to last year.

And wow at the Hudson Karaoke game :lol

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
ToH numbers are disappointing after thise Day 1 Sales :-/
Tales of 10 will be doing way better on Wii next year.....besides that awesome software sales on DS

Agreed, it had good first day numbers and only about 20% increase for the week?

Great start for Dissidia. It should at least reach 750k, hopefully higher. How many PSP games have broken 500k to date? 5-6?

Oops i forgot, to add the CG movie Edition - so the numbers aren`t THAT bad compared to previous ds tales games...

Tales of the Tempest first week: 83.298 ; ltd: 205.541
Tales of Innocence first week: 106.733; ltd: 210.697

Bad? It sold much better than both, TotT 88k FW sales and ToI 104k FW sales. Also You should add the CG version sales (15k+ ?)

I wonder how Suikoden did. :I

I was just thinking the same, but the top 10 is pretty high for this week. If it managed to sell 70k, that's okay.

Haven't been around these threads for a while, but a quick question: what is "DS+"?

And Panther, next thread, could you list them in the correct order (highest to lowest selling). I'm not sure what order you're going by when you list them and then DSi is randomly at the bottom.

ToH sales are ok, especially if you compare them to previous DS entries..but I'm still a bit disappointed- it didn't even beat ToS:KoR's first week.
