That's a wrong way to present the situation.

Is Street Fighter 4 an anime licensed fighter because there are Street Fighter animes? Is Pokemon Diamond an anime licensed rpg because there is a Pokemon anime? No.

The visual novel came before the anime, so it's a game series, and this game is a spin off of the game series, not an "anime licensed fighter".

That's an even MORE incorrect way of presenting the situation. Did Type Moon make Fate/Unlimited Codes? No. Did Cavia/Eighting/Capcom make Fate/Stay Night? Nope. Fate/Unlimited Codes is not a spinoff by Type Moon, but a LICENSED game by Capcom/Cavia/Eighting. The only "game series" for Fate/Stay Night are the ones produced by Type Moon. The rest are not spin offs but licensed titles. You're arguing over a technicality here. Even if we remove the "anime" term, it's still a licensed fighter. It's not by the original publisher or developer, so there's no way it can be a "spin off".

Naruto, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater, etc are all originally manga too, but yet they're still commonly referred to as anime licensed fighters. :p

100000 a decent start? At least I think it's quite good for a PS3 game.

I never said that Type Moon made Unlimited Codes, so how was it a wrong way to present the situation? Nothing about the word "spin off" means it must come from the original publisher/developer.

Anyway, you're ignoring the core of my argument. Unlimited Code's situation still is different from a random licensed anime fighter. Fate/Stay Night was released for PS2 before Unlimited Codes. The original source for the game was on the system before the secondary title, it's different from a random anime title which is expected to make the fanbase cross over to that system, and much closer to a game spin-off, even though it comes from a different publisher/developer.

Naruto, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater, etc are all originally manga too, but yet they're still commonly referred to as anime licensed fighters. :p

Most of those fighters are actually based on the anime, rather than the manga, though, whenever there are divergences between the two sources. Just look at the colors (Naruto has blue chakra, like in the anime, rather than yellow, like in the manga) and the character lists, which rarely include people who haven't been animated yet. BTW, Unlimited Codes has content that isn't from the anime, even some from Fate/Zero.

Rogue Galaxy first day : 150 000.

No numbers for Phantasy Star 0 ?
Using the link and BF, I think these would be the numbers.

PS0 50k
Pikmin and Biohazard 20k

That's just using BF, and kinda guessing since the translation's so messed up.

I think you're completely ignoring that Fate/Unlimited Codes is an ARCADE GAME first and foremost. The PS2 title is a port. It's not a ground up title made on the PS2 as a spin off of Fate/Stay Night, but instead something that was licensed and released as an arcade fighter. This means that the fanbase's first exposure to the game is in the arcades as a licensed fighter. Long before it's ever ported to the PS2. How is this situation any different from TvC? I think it's really stupid to assume that the game is selling well simply because there was a PS2 version of Fate/Stay Night.

Asks questions so Ezalc doesn't have to
You know, if you compare the sales of Disgaea 3 vs. Metal Gear Solid 4, one would think that Metal Gear Solid 4 obviously made more money.

But, if you look at what is most likely the difference in budget between MGS4 and D3, I wouldn't be surprised if Disgaea 3 made about the same in profit, maybe even more?

Not that I really know about this stuff...

We aren't discussing Arcade numbers though, so the existence of an original Arcade version of the fighting game doesn't matter much. We're talking about the console performances of those games.

I'm not saying that it's selling well just because there was a PS2 version of Fate/Stay Night. I'm saying these are different situations, so you didn't make a proper comparison. It's not like the Wii had a successful Tatsunoko game before TvsC.

Hugely disappointing PS3 performance.

The PSP couldn't even beat the DS with Dissidia. The DS is now infront with 127k YTD wise, with two weeks left.
Was it expected for the PSP to outsell the DS when Dissidia was released? I think i remember that someone here questioned if the PSP could outsell the DS when Dissida was released though, but did they predict it? Maybe i saw some predictions like that, but unfortunately i cant quite remember, sorry :\ After seeing that the DS sold about 120k units more than the PSP last week, i think it would be a great preformance if the PSP would manage to outsell the DS this week, but that didnt happend.

:)

hrm, well, the tapping is a sorta novelty but in principle it's an extremely basic game as far as I can see, which makes me wonder why people are disappointed
Ye, Let's Tap's gameplay might seem alittle basic, but i think that the game looks like it is abit fun to play it atleast :) Hopefully i will get a chance to try out Let's Tap myself some day :)

From what I've seen, you tap really fast with all your fingers, like you're a really fast typist on a keyboard, it's not like pushing a button.
Ah ok, like that. I thought it was like you drummed with your fingers or something, and you had to drum in a correct beat to be able to score points in the game, or something like that. Or maybe there are different types of tapping in Let's Tap, like where you havet to tap your fingers really fast like your typing on a keyboard as you said and maybe there is a type of tapping where you have to tap in a certain beat? I dont know :\ Thanks for the info! :)

Are all these numbers as of this week?

Sonic Unleashed and Klonoa are oddly tied at 5,800. o_O

But yikes, Zero Gravity did even worse and it was out a year longer. Japan really doesn't like Sonic that much do they? Seems that his continued existence was due to his popularity overseas. Even Secret Rings didn't do that well at all.

I thought Rune Factory Frontier was over 20,000 by now. Guess not. Sad indeed. :'(

Hope MMV does indeed find the success their Wii games deserve overseas.

Well, the PS2 version of Sonic Unleashed was tailor made for US audiences, if that says anything.

With 100K first day, is it safe to assume 300K max LTD for Japan for White Knight Story ?

Looking at history, GT5 Prologue, with its 108K first week, only get to 200K LTD.

Here's what I have, this list is incomplete! I'll update it in the next time, should be ~ 200 games in the end, but here's the data:

Statistics:
Games: 165
Units: 22.047.551
Average: 133.622
Thank you :) Awesome stuff.

The Gamecube put out a lot of software, I'm impressed! This puts the "how is PS3 pacing compared to the gamecube" in a whole different light, because to me it looks like it's significantly behind the gamecube. Not to mention that the PS3 has gotten the best 3rd party support (compared to both GC and Wii) by far.

I saw this kanji [10万] on ameblo's website so we probably have some first day sales ?

(sorry, I can't read japanese)

http://ameblo.jp/get6-2

Might as well Give a semi-accurate overview here:

-White Night Chronicles sold somewhere around 100,000 on it's first day with a high sell-through rate.
-The supply has been sold out even to whole sellers. Due to it being the year end, Shipments are slower then normal.
Have no fear though! Another Shipment should go out by the weekend

- Pre-orders of White Night Chronicles were Low, so these sales are more then what was expected.
- We should continue to take notice of Sales over the weekend, comparing them to Gundam that also had a good first day, but sales slowed down quickly.

___

- Phantasy Star Zero, perhapses sold around 40-50,00.

- More would have been expected, so perhapses many users are taking a wait and see approach to the game.

- (Talk about graphics of the game being poor, He wanted the game but too many games are coming out, thus putting the writer into the wait and see camp)

- DS games have a lot more movement in sales on the weekend, so we should pay attention to the activity.

__

Pikman and Biohazard sold around 10-20,000. They are low-priced remakes, so they should have slow-burns in their sells.
- heard Civilization Revolution(PS3/X360) and Ris-zoawd for DS sold well, but don't know the whole truth.

White Knight Story: 100,000 (high-sell through rate; additional shipments for the weekend)
Phantasy Star Zero: "probably" 40-50,000 (seems low, but should sell via word of mouth; DS games do better on weekends)
Biohazard and Pikmin: 10-20,000 (should both sell due to their value pricing)
DS Akai Ito and PS2 Winter Sonata are selling "here and there"
PS3+360 Civilization and DS Resort have also said to be selling, but the details on their numbers aren't yet clear.
Hardware sales should be strong.

I'm not entirely sure if these numbers are just guesses, but they're not as solid as what Sinobi would say in his blogs, from what I remember. Still, take them for what they're worth.

Indeed. It looks similar to the Japanese word resort so I misread it.

I think Kirby might have a chance of breaking 1.5m in Japan if it keps on. Might go to show how popular the series is to Nintendo, so they finally give us that Kirby Wii game.

I don't know much about first day sales but most 360 RPGs sold around 100K (usually less) for the first week followed a sharp decline.

Sad about PS0... isn't PSU still pretty popular in Japan?

Surprising about RIZ-ZOAWD selling though. I honestly thought it would tank.

Phantasy Star Portable did 217k on the first day, so if PS0 really did 40-50k on the first day then this should pretty much be absolute proof that for some reason the popularity of such games truly do not translate to success on the DS. I'm sure RIZ will tank, don't worry about it. The site didn't say how many units it sold, it's a D3 title, so it really can't sell much to begin with since they don't print much of anything being largely a budget label. Don't expect it to even chart on MC.

Here are all the first day sales 360 rpgs.

ToV - 70k + 10k bundles

IU - 70k

TLR - 79k

BD - 43k

LO - 40k

Not extremely important, but White Night is basically at least 1000 yen cheaper then most of those games. Checked out two of my local stores and amazingly, it was sold out.

Also Little Magicians Magic Adventure selling 56,000 copies a month after release is a and having nintendo-like legs is travesty yeah! for original ideas making money!

Rogue Galaxy did around 150k first day with around 300k copies shipped. So WKC slightly down with 130k first day and 250k shipped.

Could very well be the biggest first day number for a SCE title since...shock, Rogue Galaxy in 2005.

I can't find Minna no Tennis first day number though, although I doubt it did more, Mingol 5 didn't iirc.

Impressive WKC sales, though Biohazard only sold a fifth of the shipment.
