Not really as they still have to consider the online aspect, afterall Monster Hunter is a online game from the start. But I do hope they prove me wrong.

That doesn't matter. Surfs Up is a property of Sony yet it appeared on every Nintendo console as a game.

Japan is handheld land, absolutely.

On the console front:

Wii did o.k, PS3 doesn't compete. No matter what thing PS3 offers, it only takes a wii fit or a Mario and sonic to make the Wii sell 3 or 2:1....

I think SSBB will seal the deal here, I don't think PS3 will have a chance at being 1st in Japan once that game gets released.

I know that. That's why I'm wondering why he refers to the PSP as a monster, and yet calls the Wii's performance "ok"?

That depends how low the Wii and PSP drop after the holidays. Don't rule anything out.

I think Wii did more than ok. PS3, like you said, did not do well at all and continues to perform abysmally, sadly.

Here's what both did last year, in the same time period:

Wii = 96,332
PS3 = 71,727

Wii is up 58%, compared to the same time period, last year.
PS3 is down 26.52%, compared to the same time period, last year.

Are you being serious? Wii has more than half the install base of the PSP in its first year in the market. Giving each of them 5 years of life, Wii will continue on selling for four extra years while PSP will see sales more or less die in about two years. This not counting Wii is gonna be king of the generation and probably its life cycle will last longer than five years.

Since PSP is being used for a media device by many, it might just last a bit longer than the normal system. It all depends on whether Sony want to keep putting out redesigns or release a PSP2. Given the state of PS3 and all the money they've lost, I have a feeling that Sony might be inclined to milk the PSP for as long as they can.

Yes, but you know, Wii is a monster. I doubt Wii will ever beat DS sales. I would doubt it will beat PS2 sales, but PSP? It's not like it's sold bazillion of units. It wasn't until three months ago that it started doing good numbers.

Wii is the console that will rule the home systems in Japan for the next five years. How can you doubt it will overtake PSP sales?

No release in Germany and from my personal experience it was hard to obtain a copy over the internet in either Austria or UK at launch that wasn't ridiciously overpriced. Case of missed opportunity - then again I wouldn't have expected this to sell as well as a main-line RE here. Imho it did OK for what it is.

PSP is not a gaming device in Japan. At least this is not the main reason why people buy it.

Wii Software salles are MUCH better than the PSP sales. Wii sw sales are better than any other system but DS in Japan.

I think the PSP is a viable gaming platform if there would be more interesting projects but I think developers have run out of ideas for the Playstation 2 architecture.

The PSP could probably just about hit 15 million LTD in Japan if people keep buying the thing like they have the last 3 months. It wouldn't be bad if they bought software either.

I still think the Wii could do 20m LTD there.

This kind of makes me wonder; if the PSP wasn't rampant with the piracy problems it has at the moment, would the sales of the machine still be as ludicrously high as they are now? After all, many people must consider it a one-off payment console that lets you play "free" games on it...
