chibcicylist said:I don't think they'll even do an enhanced Wii Sports type of game. I see them releasing a compilation of different sports with the same simplicity and call it a day. That's what made Wii Sports such a deadly killer app, why change things now. They could potentially release a new one each year that way and they can ensure that each Wii Sport sku won't cannibalize each other's sales.

Indeed, and making developing games needing less manpower is apparently a big part of Nintendo approach. Nintendo's growth is less through increasing the company's size and staff, and more through making their output (systems, games, brands) even more profitable.Mithos Yggdrasill said:What I'm talking about is a slowly, but constant grown up of Nintendo. This is a long term vision.
I posted this earlier but there really was an increase. The pattern of high-lo Wii sales seems to be easing up . We might be seeing a consistent weekly 75k shipment from now on instead of the usual 50k-75k biweekly pattern.Chumly said:The more I think about it I dont think we are going to see an increase in Wii sales this week. I think Nintendo is just shipping out what they can and selling it. If there is an increase it will be a very very small one.

So the Wii actually managed to get more titles in the Top 10 than the DS back then. How is this a failure again?JoshuaJSlone said:

Dragona Akehi said:I know but it's still terribly depressing. Mythology is such a fascinating subject. It is history (or a type of history) that becomes legend and myth and which was shaped by the society and in turn shapes the society itself.
I mean it's just as depressing seeing someone equate Valkyrie Profile with an accurate telling of Norse Mythology (though obviously I love it anyway). Or in this case God of War...
The Illiad is amazing and I'd definitely recommend you revisit it. It's an excellent epic poem. If you like it I can recommend lots of other epic poetry and myth from other societies.

Just a random week.Link said:OT, but Joshua, what's the significance of the chart in your avatar? Does it represent anything or is it just a random sales week?

Krowley said:I think the training games are a fad and i think it's just about to die. Doesn't really say anything about nintendo's philosophy . Something like that just has limited appeal and you can only milk it for a while before it's time to retire. It's actually pretty impressive that they've managed to do this well.
Same thing will happen with wii sports style minigame collections on the wii, but it doesn't really say anything about the wii's potential success.

justchris said:The problem with this argument is that it doesn't matter what system you release your games on. You're still competing against Nintendo. I mean, you don't see Rockstar getting upset because Pokemon is outselling GTA (which it does pretty consistently). And you know what, Pokemon is going to keep outselling GTA, no matter what console they put it on. It has nothing to do with 3rd parties not selling on Nintendo systems, and everything to do with Nintendo selling ridiculous amounts of software. God forbid Nintendo should ever become a 3rd party, if that happened, every other developer could pretty much just call it quits.
Nah, that wouldn't quite work. The GC was already dead. It had no hand in helping the Wii achieve what's it's accomplished. Conversely, the Wii's performance had no bearing on the GC's fate.Ether_Snake said:Or put a Gamecube on a cross getting crucified.

Link said:Maybe, but I think the Wii is more Iwata's vision for Nintendo than a decision necessarily based on past failures. Just look at the DS, which was pretty much the same deviation from the norm. It's not like the Game Boy line was hurting at all.

Devs who bitch about competing with Nintendo only do so because they can't make games that compare. If they developed on it, they'd have to step up their game. They simply don't want to make great games when they can get away with mediocre games.
