Does anyone know if Nintendo will release any game at all for DS in December? Looking at past year's December charts, every game in the top 10 gets 100k+ sales. I really doubt Nintendo will pass up on these sales.
God, I hate you.Gahiggidy said:Seeing Wii sales dampen down a bit is a bit discouraging, but on the upside the Xbox 360 is now selling less than 2,000. When's the last time that happened? If the trend continues, it may cause to Japanese publishers reconsider putting their games on the platform. Cheer up.

And 47k in Dengeki.Kurosaki Ichigo said:Look at Gintama PS2...35k in Famitsu, 57k in Media Create. Just wow.
Basically. From June through late November the weekly sales just kept dropping before bouncing back up.HyperionX said:It's not a big deal. They completely ran out of PS2's for Japan, probably due to US + PAL launches.

It will take some crazy OMGWTH hype to be able to do that - and it has to be a non-game as well that hardcores will also want to buy.DaSamba said:I really want to know whether a DS game will ever outsell Nintendogs world wide 14 million.

So yeah, might as well start looking for UFOs if you want to see that happening.

Devil May Cry sold 570,000. Devil May Cry 2 sold 450,000. Devil May Cry sold less than 300,000. Devil May Cry 4 will not make a huge difference for the PS3 in Japan.
Neither God of War nor God of War 2 sold over 300,000 in Japan. Neither did Rygar. I realize Heavenly Sword is slightly different, but these are fairly comparable games. The three closest games (although they are still fairly different) to Heavenly Sword on the PS3 so far are Ninja Gaiden Sigma, which sold 68,000 despite launching with no competition on the platform, Genji which did 53,000, and Gundam Musou which despite two huge licences did only 275,000--a massive decline from all of the recent consoles editions of both licences.
None of the PS3 Time Crisis games broke 300k in Japan.
I'll give you Metal Gear Solid because it will likely break 500k. The two PS2 games sold 800k each. It's highly unlikely the franchise will experience growth in Japan because of the PS3's price (preventing the game from driving hardware) and the small userbase (preventing the hardware from driving the game)
I won't argue about The Eye of Judgment or Warhawk because there's really nothing at all to compare them to, but I sincerely disagree that they will drive the PS3. I feel Warhawk is very western-centric and I do not expect it to do well in Japan. The Eye might do well, but I don't really think so.

First party games. The DS has an awesome future right now, almost entirely due to third parties. While first parties jumpstarted it it really seems Nintendo's studios are focusing more on the Wii now. Not that there's anything wrong with that, as obviously it was the PS1 strategy as well.Hcoregamer00 said:You mean stuff like Tales of the Innocence and DQ9 isn't coming out?
On no!!!
*cries*
They did make enough money to at least fund some 3rd party developers with some big projects like ASH while internal teams had to focus their efforts on the first wave of Wii games, instead they decided to go the cheap route with games like Kurukin and theta.Sharp said:First party games. Izzy, haven't we learned about Amazon by now? Do we really want to unleash that vale of tears? Also you don't need to capitalize it, it's not a Sony product.Izzy said:Is there a smear campaign against WII in Japan?
I just checked amazon.co.jp and not only is it available, it's ranked 88th. Now of course amazon.co.jp is no barometer of potential success, but considering much better ranking and constant unavailabilty on amazon.com, it's very strange.

I would just like to provide the counterpoint here and tell Nintendo fans to sit back, relax, and enjoy your flight.Hcoregamer00 said:I could imagine that once the holiday season ramps up it will be the same as always, but I hope that this will be a barometer for Nintendo fans to tell them that the next gen battle is still raging. I don't because DS specs aren't to blame.Hcoregamer00 said:As for the "low 3rd party budgets" I really blame the DS specs. If the DS had specs like the Dreamcast and had much larger cartridge size you will be massive budget games. They don't look so massive just because the 3D isn't the best, and we haven't seen any big budget 2D games.
How much Nintendo fans defend a game is directly proportional to how well it ends up doing. Everyone knows that.Xisiqomelir said:Complacency/Dilligence on the part of Nintendo fans shouldn't affect much more than GAF's total post count.
Stumpokapow said:DS Crossword and Advance Wars 2 DS are both on the "late 2007/early 2008 but no info available and no specific date". DS Novel as well, but that's dated in Japan now.
Famicom Wars is a bit declined in Japan, so I could see Europe/NA getting it first. I'm not sure about DS Crossword because I really have no idea how popular crosswords are in Japan and obviously from a localization/content point of view you basically need to remake the game for each region.
BishopLamont said:DS Crossword and DS Novel are non-games so they'll be slow runners. How did the original Advance Wars do? Nintendo should really release a more hardcore game during the holiday for the DS if they want to maximise their sales. Not saying Advance Wars isn't hardcore enough, I'm just doubting it's selling power.
Izzy said:What was the first week shipment number for Dirge of Cerberus - does anyone know?
Stumpokapow said:Advance Wars DS megabombed. Like, less than 50k. I'm sure Moor Angol's site (japan-gamecharts.com) has the actual number. Both the GBA ones faired rather poorly in Japan as well, but I think part of that could be due to the fact that one of the GBC ones released like a week before one of the GBA ones.
At this point it's pretty much impossible for Nintendo to announce a mega-seller for November or December; so they have two options--either leave things open to give DQ4 and FF4 room to breathe, or fire off the B-level titles they're working on.
Hcoregamer00 said:I don't see anything wrong it it just because the Wii needs more damn games. The DS easily has one of the best future game lineups ever and good stuff keeps getting announced every single day. The Wii on the other hand needs more variety and more games to push the market until 3rd parties wake up and start pumping stuff on Wii.
As for the "low 3rd party budgets" I really blame the DS specs. If the DS had specs like the Dreamcast and had much larger cartridge size you will be massive budget games. They don't look so massive just because the 3D isn't the best, and we haven't seen any big budget 2D games.
BishopLamont said:Wow that's really surprising, after all this work they ain't going to capitalize on the holiday sales, very odd.
Stumpokapow said:So we can expect at least a few surprises unless Nintendo is really going to let DQ4 and FF4 have their space.
Rocksteady33 said:Were you people in a coma during the first year of the DS? It was the worst lineup of software ever. We had the launch and then tech demos like Yoshi Touch & Go. And then... nothing. The DS didn't start rolling until that August when Nintendogs (which blows) and Advance Wars DS came out. And then finally software arrived that holiday season. The exact same thing is happening to the Wii.
