Media Create Sales: Week 11, 2013 (Mar 11 - Mar 17)

How low can WiiU go? 6000? The silence from the Nintendo Camp is pretty insane. I mean, I can only assume at this point theyre waiting for that fiscal year cut off but good lord.

Not sure it'll go THAT low considering we have no releases whatsoever and it hovers around 9-10k for a while. Actually went up a little this week (?)

But yeah, you won't hear shit from them till they amass a library that's worth selling a console to the public for. That or sales magically pickup on their own.

Well, we do have four platforms passing the Vegeta test.
Heart-warming comments, I have been waiting for ya :)
This SAO sourness is a bit weird, shouldn't we, as sales-agers, be happy that a cultural phenomenon is born and whose execution in video game form is warmly welcomed ?

All charts launch-aligned.

Note, since this draws only from the top 10 it does not represent smaller titles.
e.g., software sales of zero are assumed if the console has no games in the top 10.

ZVD3j7d.png

Tally of the number of titles for that platform in the top 20 for each week.
I can't find the top 20 for PS3's second week. It has been assumed as zero.

Feel free to criticize or point out mistakes.

So G&W will spike WiiU but One Piece wont spike Vita?

One piece will give positive sales boost but that will be negated by two negative trends (4th week from price drop , 3rd week from big release).

I think 30k will good for next week, 35-40k would be very good.

What's wrong with the SAO success? I thought the anime was entertaining and well produced and the premise is perfect for a game adaptation.

Nothing too surprising to me on the list this week except for the fact that SAO beat out KH for the number 1 spot. PSP still has the muscle to move software when it gets a notable release and SAO is certainly hot right now.

Vita's 36k is a good number but I wonder what next week will look like. We could be back at sub 20k very shortly but hopefully not sub 10k.

I'm actually less interested in whether One Piece Musou 2 will "spike Vita sales" or whatever, and more interested in how it will actually perform on each platform. I think this will be the first major "test" of a PS3/Vita multiplatform strategy with a big brand name in Japan. It should tell us a few things about consumer preference for this sort of genre, as well as indicate if there is a large market for this sort of portable+console release. I feel it's pretty different from having a 3DS/Vita or PSP/Vita multiplatform release, since those only tell us what platforms are preferred in the portable space.

Buy me a new PC and the numbers will be up in one minute every week.

;_;

Now I feel bad! >_<

[GBA] Super Robot Wars A (Banpresto) - 161.272 / 310.513 / 51,94% 21/09/01
[GBA] Super Robot Wars R (Banpresto) - 158.993 / 285.314 / 55,73% 02/08/02
[GBA] Super Robot Wars D (Banpresto) - 107.703 / 199.607 / 53,96% 08/08/03
[GBA] Super Robot Wars J (Banpresto) - 111.862 / 181.534 / 61,62% 15/09/05
[NDS] Super Robot Wars W (Banpresto) - 172.190 / 278.027 / 61,93% 01/03/07
[NDS] Super Robot Wars K (Bandai Namco) - 131.638 / 213.454 / 61,67% 20/03/09
[NDS] Super Robot Wars L (Bandai Namco) 129.054 / 161.387 / 79,97% 25/11/10

[3DS] Super Robot Wars UX (Bandai Namco) - 120.751 / 120.751 / 100,00% 14/03/13

In the Nintendo handheld context, they're okay.

Isn't this UX more important than other nintendo handheld's titles?

Man, I still can't believe Sword Art Online is at the top of the chart. A fucking PSP game. Lol. The power of waifus. Lulz.

Seriously. Though I suppose being more than just a visual novel esque game probably did a lot to boost its appeal.

As for Musou on PS3 and Vita, it'll be especially interesting as they really are the same game. There's the obvious visual downgrade, but when you're playing it it's not particularly noticeable save for the pop up. So it really does come down to what system you'd rather play it on.

What's so ridiculous about it? Monster hunter basically resurrected the PSP in Japan. Isn't it possible for SS to do the same for Vita?

Obviously it's possible, but considering the game is actually out now, we know it's initial shipment numbers, and that the sales (in terms of the first to second week drop off) look pretty average then, no, it's not possible.

It's not a visual novel esque game though. :p

Man, what a boring week, I don't even know what SAO is; SS doing pretty ok and well, Vita seems decent, too

And those Wii U numbers - no words necessary. Can't wait for an official statement about that

NSMB2 with +0% is funny though :lol

Soul Sacrifice has a more darker theme to it compared to Monster Hunter, so that will limit the appeal of Soul Sacrifice. It seems that Soul Sacrifice has positive effect on the Vita hardware sales though.

Those Sword Art Online numbers... it's really annoying that this thing can sell so much. I would have liked more for UX but it is still ok.

Hm. I suppose it's safe to assume that Wii U will most likely only see an increase these next couple of weeks what with G&W, DQX and that huge Mother 2 Billboard ad. It shouldn't even be hard with those current numbers. The question is how much.

Vita dropping by roughly half is expected but it could have been worse. Depending on how well One Piece does though it's probably going to continue steadily downhill.

Like you already mentioned earlier, PSV versions are already sold out in many places (and this is because of very low shipment numbers).
Vita version may have higher sell-through ratio, but..

Don't worry. I ended up getting confused and thinking I was going crazy too. Hahaha.

And hey, at least you don't have to see Japanese students with Asuna pencil boards. =(

Silica for life. <3

Probably UX is the first nintendo handheld title with voice acting (sorry if I'm wrong), so I thought that it could be perceived like an home console-quality game.

Voice acting is nice to have, but it's not really what makes the console SRW games popular. The storylines, the featured series, the animations, etc are all just much more appealing in the main games. The semi-yearly portable games will always been viewed as cheaper spinoffs.

Next week will have Konami's Pro Baseball game that'll tell a similar story.
From last year:
[PS3] 90.433
[PSP] 60.141
[PSV] 17.264

Hmm vita numbers dropped quite a buy but still 30k..

Still need more time to get a real handle on if it going to keep selling better I guess

Pretty interesting to see the first Monster Hunter Portable sales and Soul sacrifice sales nearly identical for first week, Can you also post how much that sold in successive weeks?

Next week will have Konami's Pro Baseball game that'll tell a similar story.
From last year:
[PS3] 90.433
[PSP] 60.141
[PSV] 17.264

I don't think this is as relevant because as you've pointed out, it has always been a multiplatform game on everything, and furthermore it's a sports title. I was referring specifically to a genre/series like Musou, where often we only see portable spinoffs or scaled down ports. Now they're releasing the sequel to the best selling Musou game in years on both the PS3 and Vita on the same date. It's a very interesting comparison which is fairly unique.

I wonder if Nintendo is shifting more resources towards the Mario Kart U and Mario 3DU development teams. They cannot afford to delay either title and they really need Yoshi and Wind Waker to help build up the momentum heading in the holiday season.

Those four titles releasing between August and December, as well as a price drop close to the holiday season may trigger a decent turnaround and take focus away from the PS4's launch.

Vita held better than I thought (predicted 25K), SS did not (predicted 35K).

I was also hoping for a bigger boost to PS3 because it's the first KH game on the platform. Also was hoping PSP would hold better. Do we think PS3 will cross 10 million and PSP will cross 20 million this year?

The hardware boost will come from the DQX hardware bundles, not from anything else, and it will be over very quick.

If the WiiU doesn't get a boost to 30K+ the week of DQX and G&W then I say it's time to start worrying. Even the vita got a boost to 30K+ the week of P4G and a boost to 50K the week of Miku IIRC.

You forgot to mention removing all the boredom as well. SAO is popular because people are still awake after they watch an episode! They might be braindead though. :p

Well as far as SAO is concerned i really liked the whole
first game arc then when they went to second it kinda lost a lot of atractiveness

PS. It's a pity i can't google any good SAO themed haters gonna hate jpg :D
