Media Create Sales: Week 11, 2013 (Mar 11 - Mar 17)

Voice acting is nice to have, but it's not really what makes the console SRW games popular. The storylines, the featured series, the animations, etc are all just much more appealing in the main games. The semi-yearly portable games will always been viewed as cheaper spinoffs.

Maybe it's because of the general excitement for voice acting and the debut of Demonbane that I thought that this was more important than usual. DS ones were cheap as hell, so I'm pretty excited about this one.

Am I reading this right, Vita only sold 180k units last year, in all of Japan? In one whole year? o_O I never noticed that before. How is this thing still on store shelves?

Not a bad week for portables all around. What's out next week for the Vita? Is it just going to keep going down from here? Luigi's Mansion and the 3ds hw numbers will be interesting.

Nomura just saw the sales.

I was also hoping for a bigger boost to PS3 because it's the first KH game on the platform. Also was hoping PSP would hold better. Do we think PS3 will cross 10 million and PSP will cross 20 million this year?

psp will hit 20 mill for sure i would think. ps3 maybe 9 million but more likely next year.

No, you are reading that wrong.
it is YTD until the comparable week (in this case until the 11st week).

PSV sold around 600-650K last year.

In weeks 1-11, not the entire year. Last year here means the YTD of the hardware up until the equivalent week in the present year.

I still expect Vita to fall below 10K again by mid-April, but it's dropping more slowly than I expected, in large part because I didn't expect the initial SS bump to be as large as it was.

15K/week still looks to me like an absolute best-case scenario for the new baseline, given the complete dearth of upcoming exclusive software beyond niche titles.

Pretty interesting to see the first Monster Hunter Portable sales and Soul sacrifice sales nearly identical for first week, Can you also post how much that sold in successive weeks?

SS is already below MHP1's second (53K) and third (31K) weeks.

Ok, I'm an idiot lol. xD Sorry.

But that's still a disastrous number. WiiU and Vita, the newest systems, tanking horribly. I wonder what that means for PS4 and its likely not very friendly price.

I think that's what makes the portable SRWs interesting in a way though. They pick series which aren't really big mainstream stuff, and it feels more unique and quirky as a result. But if you look at it from a larger perspective, it's also one reason why the sales are kinda limited compared to the big console ones which always have like 6 Gundam series, 4 Macross series, and a bunch of Code Geass and whatever else is the flavor of the year.

Up to this point.

Soul Sacrifice had a pretty big collapse but Vita held up better than i thought. Perhaps they can move the baseline to 10-15k.

Wiiu is stiill a complete embarrassment and disaster. Seems they will have 0 golden week titles

70-75% is a pretty standard second week drop.

Some people foolishly expected amazing legs and the game looks like it will barely scratch 200k at retail at best which is a good result but Sony bet Vitas entire future on it. With all the marketing the threw at the game they had to be expecting more

Doesn't change the fact that it's not a big collapse, I guess you could argue that it's not in line with random forum poster hopes though.

Monster Hunter Portable sold more in the upcoming weeks as Father_Brain answered above, but it is worth mentioning that Monster Hunter Portable did not have a double pack or digital download sales, so the comparison will be a bit different due to unknown sales numbers for digital downloads for Soul Sacrifice.

Well, the thing about legs is that games can have normal drops until a point where it maintains a stable amount sold each week. So you can have amazing legs, even if something drops to a 20-30k level or even less. The true definition of amazing legs is something which can keep selling for months, or even over a year, even at a low amount each week.

I think the original Monster Hunter Portable is a good example of this.

I doubt Soul Sacrifice will do anywhere near that much. The highest non-MH game in that list:

12/22/2008 0 0 633,954

As you can see, didn't beat MHP's legs even with a much higher debut than SS.

Monster Hunter Portable sold more as someone answered above, but it is worth mentioning that Monster Hunter Portable did not have a double pack or digital download sales, so the comparison will be skewed a bit.

Speaking of the double pack, its sales completely fell off a cliff this week. Was the shipment just that limited?

I've been wondering the same thing. It has been out of stock on Amazon for quite some time now, so i would guess that it was a limited release, but i cant say for sure.

Well the original MHP didnt have as big a drop week 2 but well see next week when sales crash again

Edit: although digital sales probably plays somewhat of a role.

I don't get it. Is this Sword Art Online franchise really that much grosser than Senran Kagura? Seemed like a lot of members were cheering on the latter.

Well, it's almost April. If those 2 are coming they should announce it soon.

I still find it hard to believe Nintendo's major April release is going to be a downloadable title....
Yeah, it's getting a bit late for April. Unless we have a surprise Direct this week we can probably rule it out.

I just figured after Square called it out as a reason they're missing targets might mean interest has been lost.
When/where did SE do that? Are you talking about that one dubiosly credited article?

Senran Kagura knows it's fap material and runs with it. Sword Art Online is some of the worst-written shit in a medium already packed with bad writing.

The Twilight comparison is very apt, actually!

SOA had me fooled into thinking it might be a good show, so I watched it. Now the only thing I can get out of all of this is hating on it.
With SK you can see from miles away how much of a POS it is. I watched the first two episodes of the anime out of curiosity, but aside from that it's been easy to avoid for me.
