Media Create Sales: Week 11, 2014 (Mar 10 - Mar 16)

3ds sales are pretty bad. Wonder how long before its consistently under 30k. The scheduling seems no better than last year for this first part of the year
 
At this point I think that the Xbox One has a legitimate chance at success in Japan, if Microsoft plays their cards right.

During the early 360 days they moneyhatted a bunch of exclusives but it still flopped because the home console market was still in good health.

But this time they could position themselves as the saviors of home console gaming in Japan. The Japanese industry is becoming less and less interested in developing for home consoles. If Microsoft throws enough money at it, they could revitalize interest for it.

Yeah I know it's farfetched as fuck, but still...

Absolutely 0% chance of this happening. I'm willing to bet MS is still debating whether or not it's even worth it to launch.

They want to pump as many units as they can to NA and EU to catch up with Sony.

Sure, but he's the head of Famitsu, Japans largest consumer game mag and he won't reveal anything? We got posters here doubting Iwata that they have games in the pipeline for the Wii U & 3ds. If that is the case, why should I believe this rumor?

I don't know enough about him personally to say that. I do know that famitsu has the reputation of protecting games and studios in Japan just by looking at their review scores. Latest example being Yaiba and getting 9/9/9/9

I don't see how it's derailing since it's directly related to current and future PS4 sales. I just think it's a stretch to automatically assume he's lying with no prior proof. Also, different areas have different tastes in games. If many other Japanese outlets reviewed it poorly, I would call their opinion into question.
 
Lol, the gloom and doom is kind of ridiculous in this thread. People here say "oh they have 2 billion yen worth of Wii Us in inventory, they need to sell them, thus they won't invest at all in Wii U software." How exactly does that make sense? You think the meager amount of games they're releasing will sell out that stock even? Maybe? I'm sure they have a bit more in store, albeit they may be lower cost efforts.

Props to Dark Souls 2's launch and Yokai Watch (and most 3DS software) keeps trucking.

It's kind of interesting that Wii Fit U has charted once again in Famitsu, which means it's slowly but steadily selling. It launched at 5K units on its opening week, and a good 6 months after it's selling nearly 4K in a week and has hit 110K (yes I know it's bundled, but there's no reason you'd buy the bundle unless you want Fit U imo). Actually was there a price drop or something for Wii Fit U recently? Or is it just consistently selling b/w 2-5K each week these past months and finally software sales have gotten that quiet that Wii Fit U charts?

Also Just Dance Wii U releases in a couple weeks. Should be interesting to see how that sells. Maybe it'll appeal to the holiday audience that got a Wii U w/ NSMBU & Wii Party U (and possibly bought 3D World)?
 
Expected numbers overall. PS4 not so much, damn! I tough it would be around the 30k numbers, definitely nothing to compare with the first 4 weeks of Wii U when it sold more than 100k after week launch. Let's see how it goes with MGS: V and inFAMOUS.

He cant reveal any specific games without the developer/publisher permission though.

It also launched in a holiday month. I don't think the situations are directly comparable.

I think there should be one or two major Wii U titles upcoming, but I'm thinking Zelda. Things that were greenlighted before the system's fate was known and either unable to come out early on or not expected to. There's a middle ground between "full speed ahead" and "cancel everything".

As for the Xbox One thing. If the system isn't appealing to this audience, than it doesn't magically becoming appealing just because the PS4 has created an opening. Start believing that Microsoft has a chance when they start to make an effort.

You can't schedule what doesn't exist.

They shifted resources to QOL or next gen handheld already and 3rd parties aren't coming in numbers Nintendo expected.

Add to it that most of 3DS library for 2014 are safe sequels that have little chance to expand userbase.

Didn't Nintendo recently buy a company or two that we're expecting to be involved with the QOL platform? Or am I confusing that with something else?

I am sure they are but honestly the PS4 doesn't have any exclusives yet in any country that make that console worthwhile.

It will get games eventually but honestly the PS4 lineup is very week right now. Sony is luck it is doing so well elsewhere.

And on the flipside I can now make a prediction. If Zelda isn't shown this E3 it isn't coming to WiiU.

People don't only buy consoles for exclusives. PS4 has the biggest western franchises on it already. Battlefield, Call of Duty, and Assassin's Creed are huge games. Calling the western lineup "very weak" is ridiculous.

Why can't someone buy something like Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty for XBox 360, PS3, or even Wii U? You don't need a PS4 to play those games. Truthfully there is not a strong reason to own a PS4 right now....that is why I am surprised at how well it is doing in Europe and the US.

Hell, even the Wii U had a much stronger start in terms of software yet it was blasted for not having games

I'm not saying Iwata did 9/11, just saying he's going to make the best decision for the survival of his company. And I think that's dumping the Wii U asap, and losing as little money as possible while clearing that inventory.

Because the console that delivers the best versions of those games is also reasonably priced? I'm not sure whats so surprising about that.

Its worked quite well in most regions but obviously those games do not carry the same clout in Japan that they do else where. Still as time goes on they'll certainly help, the ports of all those games in Japan were super late for launch, most folks didn't wait. They will be released the same day as the other versions in the future, but obviously aren't going to drive that many consoles.

I was wondering, there hasn't been any game specific Vita hardware bundles since FFX/X-2 right?

It's weird that Sony hasn't created special hardware for Jump/Samurai Warriors 4/SRWZ-3/Project Diva f2/Sword Art Online. If this was Nintendo we'll have gotten one or two 3DS XL models for each of those games.

It seems like a missed oportunity.

That applies to about every system right now except Wii U (Mario Kart, Smash Bros) and maybe PS4 (Secret Famitsu Games). There's not really anything scheduled on Vita that hasn't been done already. 3DS at least gets to share Smash.

It isn't, but gamers are just a vocal ultra-minority on this industry since at least 15 years now. The leap in graphics is not a game changer, but most people here doesn't play (that's for toys and that's why Nintendo isn't cool), they experience interactive experiences that are supposed to be art.

Why do you think that every time a west developer like Naughty dog or Remedy speak about their products they focus on the graphics or the plot? The same goes for Guerrilla, most of EA, Ubisoft...

This is a very different sentiment than claiming "PS4 lineup is very weak". People want to upgrade. They've had a PS3 or 360 for ages, and they're ready for a new console. You don't have to convince them to upgrade, you just to to show them they'll have something to do with their shiny new machine. And PS4 in the west had that in spades. The best looking version of a bunch of games people wanted to buy anyway.

In Japan, they don't have that. Even if there's a large cohort who want to upgrade their home console (and it remains to be seen if there is), Sony hasn't show them they'll have something to do once they make the purchase.

Maybe check out Riot and Valve, see what most people actually are playing then come back and tell us about the plot and graphics. Hell go play Titanfall and take alook at how much effort was put into its "campaign".

Naughty Dog and Remedy's sales are the nice here not games that focus on "play" most of EA? you mean all those sports and driving games? simcity? battlefield (heh really hope you dont mean this one is story focused)?
