The lack of interest in the FFXV demo is a very bad sign imo.
I don't see more people talking about FF XV than FF XIII back then.
It's true that open world action RPG style is more appealing for general public, but I'm not convinced that will sell more than FF XIII (brand was more strong at the time)
In proportion to the number of sold consoles?

SE is still milking the FF IP and as long as they can keep doing it, and it is still a big money maker for them.
FF smartphone games have been popular enough for SE that they are making more of them. Mevius FF is coming soon along with Dissidia FF for Arcade. If this doesn't speak about the popularity of the series, I don't know what else.
The FF X|X-2 HD Remaster was the best selling remaster of a game in Japan. Better than other popular IPs remasters in Japan.
The recently released FF Explorers game on 3DS also sold pretty good.
FF Type-0 HD was released exclusively for the current generation and the sales are pretty good for an expensive remaster.
FF XIV is holding really well for a new FF MMO in today's tough market for sub-based MMOs.
funny because I read Type-0 results as a good sing of interest on the FFXV demo.
I mean, Type-0 was already available, was already purchased and played by many in Japan. this full priced title is selling decently because of the demo, imho.

We will see in a year+ when you're both wrong. This is getting people I would never imagine playing FF talking about it. I'm talking exclusively western sales here, Japan excluded.

I expect FFXV to outsell FF13 in the West as well. A big factor is the word of mouth/quality but I believe in Nomura/Tabata and from what we have seen.

I'm not claiming Persona 5 will sell more than FF XV, just because that'd be crazy talk. But the fact that Persona 5 seems to be competing with FFXV on internet hype alone should really tell you something about the state the FF franchise is in general. FFXV will continue the decline for the series.
This isn't really true when it comes to JRPGS is it? Outside of Kingdom Hearts (which has a lot more going for it outside of its battle system) and MAAAAAYBE Tales action JRPGs are relegated to Niche. It's turn based RPGs that get any sort of recognition (at least when they come from Japan.) Considering the biggest games in the genre from Japan are Final Fantasy 7-10 and The Pokemon Series.

FF is one of my favorite franchises and I've played almost every single iteration of the series. I have 0 impulse to this game for the demo. 70$ with tax when Bloodborne is coming out this month, no thanks.

Apparently you don't remember the level of anticipation for FFXIII. It was WAY BIGGER than FF XV now.
Persona is getting more popular, I don't see FF getting less popular.
I remember people always being more excited for VersusXIII.

Enthusiasts. NeoGAF isn't the only place where Persona 5 is competing in levels of anticipation with FFXV. Hell, not just the internet, but magazines too if we're going by this metric (Famitsu most wanted charts).

Come on now. If I went by message boards I would be thinking that Bloodborne is a massively popular game and COD is a niche one. Your conclusion based from what you got it from is invalid.

What were you expecting for that Persona 5 footage reveal?
It has been years since we got our first actual look at a Persona game. Last one was in 2008. You don't quite remember but FF XV had a similar peak of interest when it "debuted again" at TGS with a new trailer + gameplay. The GAF thread and hype back then was insane as well. It was all over the news at that time.
Maybe FF XV has less hype than FF XIII but Famitsu mw chart is a completely useless chart

Anyway will be interesting to see Type 0's sales in USA. Maybe we'll have some indications for the FF franchise outside Japan.
In Japan it will definitely sell lower than XIII. WW? That's really up in the air I think it will depend on reviews and word of mouth for the game.

c'mon. I love Zelda (isn't that obvious from my avatar?) but I don't know if I'd buy a 60 bucks demo. Yes, there is the remaster HD. Probably I'd buy a Zelda TP HD remaster with the Zelda U demo...I don't know, the fact is that I think that the hype in Japan for Type-0 HD is based all and only on the demo, so the sales are not that bad.

I really don't know how we can measure the current strenght of the brand compared to 2010 in west. True, direct sequels to XIII sold like shit but considering the reception of XIII was that so surprising? FFXV as a new mainline game will show us the current strenght of the brand. I still think that with good reception, strong marketing and more appealing gameplay it could do XIII numbers in the west or even sligthly more. In Japan we will see obviously decline without some kind of miracle. Still even in Japan I think it will do better than doom and gloom sayers expect (just like XIII did).

The fact that they're comparable should be worrying for Square. Persona 5 might be a breakout hit, but even then it's sales would be dwarfed by FFXV. Or should I say they WOULD be dwarfed if FFXV really had as strong a brand as when FFX or, hell even, FFXIII released.
As it stands FFXV will obviously outsell Persona 5 on name alone, no one is saying it won't. But the fact that FFXV and Persona 5 are similar in their "internet/enthusiast" hype metrics should be worrying for those at Square.

Awesome numbers for PS4. Surprised that the PS3 version of Revelations 2 sold so much better than the PS4 version, was expecting a closer split. Type-0's numbers are good for what it is.
It'll probably be pretty high first week (compared to other PS4 games), maybe even be the top-selling game on PS4 after one week. Final Fantasy doesn't have good legs, though.

this week many games releases on Sony platforms (PS3/Vita/PS4) and like no releases on Nintendo platforms (3DS/WiiU).
This will change again in 2 weeks MC Charts (probably next week).

lol, no it wasn't. Video game forums hype =/= real life. FFXV is going to pull in millions of casuals. The only thing stopping it is if the game is not good. Like I said in my previous post, just wait a year before you're wrong.
Several Reasons
- Nintendo particularly does better around the holidays
- Sony has the only relevent home console right now
- 3DS is on its way out wheras PS4 is "on its way in." Somewhat
- Quite a few big releases now and upcoming for Sony Platforms (Mainly DQ:H so far.)
Millions of Casuals? The hype for the game isn't obviously bad, but it's not comparably in real life OR on the internet from my experience to FF13. Your anecdotal experiences =/= actual reality.

Why should SE worry about Persona unless both games are releasing close to each other?
Persona was the cult hit that got popular off its extremely good games (P3, P4 and Golden) and built a fanbase that kept waiting for a worthy sequel for more than 7 years. It is still not as mainstream as FF of course.
FF XV is coming off from the bad WOM of FF XIII. It has a lot to prove for it. Meanwhile people are much more confident that P5 will be a good game based on the franchise history.
