Media Create Sales: Week 25, 2015 (Jun 15 - Jun 21)

Damn. Another supply constrained Nintendo title.

Retailers still hurting from P&D: Mario Bomba edition

Nintendo showing Nintendo how franchise care and growth is done. Now hopefully Nintendo learns from Nintendo's actions, and Nintendo doesn't repeat Nintendo's past mistakes with other franchises!

well if nintendo is ever desperate to boost retailer ordering they can start accepting returns i guess. what portion of video game companies do that? Is refusing them an industry standard or a nintendo thing?

After how well P4G did Atlus should've made a proper game to capitalize on the fanbase.

They can't expect a dancing spin off that nobody asked for to do too well.

Persona Q did extremely well.

Best selling game in the Etrian Odyssey family and almost as good as the mainline Persona games, I'm surprised they didn't announce Persona Q 2 already.
I'm not.
Another game with the same characters would not do well.
I don't think we'll see another Persona Q game for a while, if at all (depending on the mood of the franchise going forward).

It's a Japan thing.

It's a much different ecosystem in the West.

Yeah, when are they going to announce the next mainline Persona game.

I mean a proper game on Vita.

They went with P4D because it was conceptually similar to P4A and they were pretty happy with that, so they went with this project. Maybe things would be different if they knew going in that Dingo would mess up whatever they messed up, forcing Atlus to work on most of the project themselves.

And we don't even know how much it sold yet, unless we have shipment numbers. (Though, I don't know what 50-60%usually entails as a first-day indicator for a game like it; it might mean that it won't do too well during its first week for all I know.)

You can only do so much with Persona 4. What other P4 spin-offs that they haven't tried yet that would sell as much as the main line games? Unless they'll do a direct sequel to P4, which would be highly unlikely.

Persona Q did extremely well.

Having a very solid fanbase for EO really helped the game. And also being another RPG may have enticed some more veteran Persona players to try it out.

It would be tough to make PQ2 with another P3/P4 cross-over story-wise, and P1 and P2 are somewhat unpopular compared to the two that will make it commercially successful as the first one.

Isn't the first persona game still the best selling entry in the series? And correct me if I'm wrong, but also the best selling entry in the megaten series?

Yes, if we're talking about the initial release of each game without counting re-releases, updates and spin-offs. That doesn't change the fact that it's no longer relevant, though.

It is, but they aren't revisited as much as the last 2 Persona games. Even Atlus CEO said that the turning point for the Persona franchise being a mainstream success is when Persona 3 became a hit.

Nobunaga's Ambition 201X launched last month on Android and iOS, the game has aready sold 400,000+ units.

Nobunyaga Guru Guru dungeon is another smartphone game from Koei which has sold 585,000.

Dead or Alive 5 has seen strong sales at retail but ultimately the free 2 play version is the winner here with Digital revenue now playing a vital part for Koei.

I just checked Nobunaga's Ambition 201x on Google Play and App Annie: on GP, it's between 100,000 and 500,000. Unfortunately, I didn't follow it since launch, in order to see its performance and when it reached the 100,000 mark. Going by its ranking in the Download Chart, it probably went over 100,000 downloads not that long ago.

Also, sorry Zhuge, but it doesn't seem to be performing that well in terms of Grossing. On iOS, it peaked at 172nd and it hovers around 200th, with some ups and downs. On Google Play, instead, it peaked at 109th, and it's been around 150th-200th for a while, and now it's under 200th. In terms of chart ranking, it's surely doing better on Android than on iOS, but this still seems like a poor performance, not even in top 100 once.

EDIT: I'll check Nobunyaga Guru Guru later.

Holy fuck @ Fire Emblem. No estimates about first day shipment at all?
Pretty good first day sell-through for Persona 4:DAN as well.
FFXIV, in the context Chris gave, is a bit yikes. Still, I suppose it's the PS3 SKU the one more overshipped.

Mario Maker will rebuild him, better, stronger, faster.

We have the technology.

The Battle Cats has been downloaded 100,000 on the 3DS eShop. It's still not #20 on the 3DS only all-time charts (Soliti Horse is 20, Denpa RPG 3 is 19, Tomodachi Collection is 18 then Gunman Story and what has been posted here).

The hardware/software ratio is kinda disproportionate for PS4. People are buying it, they're just not really buying any games for it. Both Wii U and Vita software is outselling PS4 games, despite lower hardware sales for both. PS3 stealing a lot of sales away from PS4 with cross gen games, I guess?
upcoming games and digital probably has something to do with it

Those Splatoon legs really are incredible. Japan loves this game. Congrats to Nintendo looks like they have a strong new IP.

Also as always, happy to see how well Witcher 3 is doing in Japan for a WRPG.

SQEX is undershipping DQX and overshipping FFXIV... Weird.

Cool. eShop is a lively environment for small games like those.

I was indeed wondering when it'd have hit that mark, given how it dominates eShop charts since its release. And it's a port of a f2p title years later the original release...and not f2p anymore. But what's the offcial source? I can't find it on your blog.

I always have issues posting from mobile. It's from the gamernejp Twitter account.

The reason it sells even though it's f2p is a) the smart device version is kinda restrictive if you wanna play continuously and not pay. Everything is free in the 3DS version. And b) it's good. Really good.

Fire Emblem: Awakening shipped 300.000 units during its first week.

It wouldn't be logical for such an anticipated game like Fire Emblem Fates: Black Kingdom / White Kingdom to have a first day shipment smaller, so it is a safe to say that it has already cleared 200.000 units. And this figure doesn't include the Special Edition SKU although I suppose it will have a very limited print run.

All the figures I post are directly from Koei so I can assure you it's accurate.

But yes, Koei don't have a super hit smartphone game or even anything near that yet. However the games are performing well for what they are.

Kind of a separate question, but any idea why Koei-Tecmo is bringing those 2 old DS games to 3DS? It didn't seem like they were adding all that much either from what I could tell.

Not sure really but this isnt rare to see. Koei said they wanted to bring back old games either through reboot or re-release.

Sorry, it probably seemed like I was saying your figures weren't accurate, but far from it. Actually, I was trying to see what could be the iOS/Android download ratio for Nobunaga, going by the numbers you gave.

Reading my post again, it wasn't clear. Again, sorry if my post made you think that.

It's possible. We're talking about 2 versions here, and because they have been proven to be totally different aside from the first 6 chapters, it won't be surprising to see two version helping each other to sell more (assuming the discounted DLC counts as another copy sold).

I guess so. But I believe it will be muchhhhh profitable for sure with 2 scenario+third route and many many DLC+ amiibo. Don't forget it actually being released on western market too.

Well, maybe adding the DLC as a +1 purchase...? Otherwise I really can't see that happening. Awakaning was a HUGE success, and sol 469k...

yeah, I know about Western market, and I'm pretty sure that N is really happy with FE "renaissance". I simply didn't remember that episode being able to sell SO MUCH :p

Well it was huge because if you look at the numbers, FE has been stale sales-wise since the GBA days. FE:A is currently at the top 3 best selling FE all-time in Japan. That's a huge leap considering the other two were from the old SNES days.
