Media Create Sales: Week 33, 2013 (Aug 12 - Aug 18)

Great week for the Nintendo overall. All their games sold great this week. Nintendo has 17 of the top 20 games in Media Crate and only 3 games for Sony.

I am happy to see Mario and Luigi continue to sell, because the game deserves it, such a great experience. Luigi's Mansion getting closer and closer to one million. The Year of Luigi indeed.

It is funny, because I knew Nintendo did well since there were only four pages when I first saw this thread. Next week I am sure there will be more posts.

Excellent news for Pikmin 3.
3DS sales are amazingly consistent.
As usual, mostly Nintendo games saw an increase over last week. I wonder why that is :)
The holidays haven't even started yet.

Man that top 10 list. 3DS is killing it currently.

Really curious to see how high sales for Monster Hunter 4 goes next month.

Are people surprised 3DS did well? Obon is about traveling to traditional homes. Families with young kids probably got games to keep them entertained on the (long) journeys. :p

That said, Obon is not an official public holiday, so it's not as though everyone had off.

The holiday Obon was last week.

So? My point is all the games that saw a substantial increase in the top 20 are 90% made by Nintendo.
Plus all the games bar one (in 30th position) on non-Nintendo platforms decreased.
It's easier to highlight the games that decreased:

01./01. [3DS] Disney Magic Castle: My Happy Life # <ETC> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.08.01} (¥5.480) - 41.764 / 193.644 <60-80%> (-11%)

Not really

I can see it doing something in the 10-20k area, not much more

Which sucks :/

Don't niche Vita games debut higher than that?

That would mean that less than one in six players that picked up Pikmin 3 turned around and grabbed TW101 as well, and I'd like to think better of fellow Pikmin players than that.

I really suck at predicting numbers, but I'm pretty sure that this won't do well since it's a) on Wii U and b) by PG who always bombed with their titles which weren't Metal Gear associated

I would love to see TW101 going through the roof since Kamiya is one of my favorite designers and PG is all in all a dream company for hardcore gamers, but we all know that next week will be a huge disappointment

You said that you wondered why there was a increase. Obon plays a part of why it was increase (same thing about hardware sales as well, pretty much every platform saw a noticeably increase from last week). And when you said "Nintendo games", i thought you ment games for Nintendo platforms. But i was just answering your question, that you wondered why there was an increase.

Also M&L is doing pretty good for a bomba.

I feel it's going to be a situation similar to Kirby where the game sell pretty mediocre amount with a shitty sell through at first then goes on to have great legs.

Should do well during the holidays too.

The delay in MC numbers really highlighted how arbitrary some of the "statistics" we pull out of them are. Wii U and Vita basically switched places from Famitsu to MC. So what does that mean for the first couple pages of this thread?

I guess all you can do is pick a tracker and stick to it.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Famitsu tends to be the more reliable/better guestimated one from a historical point. Its the one I pay more attention to at least, so pretty funny we go with Media Create for the title every week :p

It's more of a historical thing, until recently, Famitsu published their numbers wayy later than Media Create.

I guess people got used to the thread titles and it's sorta pointless to change it anyway.

If TW101 only shipped 30K then we're expecting that shipment to sell out first week, right?

My prediction would be 9k units sold during the first two days.

Looking only at %increase on a certain week (especially during holidays) doesn't tell you much especially if you're going to use the data from one tracker only. Comparative %variation from one month to another between the different trackers would be much more telling.

Software sales are much more telling anyway...

only needs another 160k to not be the worst selling of the series

I was pessimistic for this game before but now I think it will perform okay, well in line with the two first editions.

Go Vita GOOOO!!!!

Is there any figure for dragon's crown digital sales? I really wish it did well so we get more these kind of games. :/

I wonder how the eventual EDF4 Vita port will sell. EDF3 Portable didn't do very well, but neither did the original release. EDF2 sold very well, and unsurprisingly EDF2 Portable sold well but that was on the considerably less sales challenged PSP.

Very bad Obon this year. No big titles released previous weeks, bad software and hardware sales and sales will drop sharply next week either way. Monster Hunter and Pokemon can't come soon enough, last months are pushing way down YOY comparisons.

The 3DS is nigh unstoppable. Such a contrast over the Wii U.

And MH4 and Pokémon X/Y aren't even out yet.
