Funny about One Piece: Unlimited World R - Deluxe Edition's sales on Switch and PS4:

Dengeki, 2nd week:

Switch: 2,022 / 6,335
PS4: 1,244 / 3,019

So far the Switch version has outsold the PS4 version by over 2:1. Why is that? Far smaller install base, same price I believe.

It's not great numbers on Switch, but it's still very interesting that the PS4 version lost against the Switch version. This also happened with Lego City and Cars 3 I think in Japan. It's more shocking as this is an anime game which are so popular on Sony hardware.

Any theories?

Mayhe it's just the sort of thing where portability is the only thing to differentiate it from the versions that originally came out on PS3 and Wii U, and the portion of 3DS consumers now on Switch (that perhaps weren't on Wii U) are more receptive to it since it's "new to them", or something like that?

The size of the install base doesn't matter when sales are this low. The Switch install base is active at the moment, its library is smaller than the PS4's, and it's a colorful child-friendly game, like LEGO City Undercover and Cars 3. I don't find it strange at all that the Switch versions of those games are performing better.

[NSW] Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2 for Nintendo Switch <FTG> (Bandai Namco Games) (¥6.800) - 40% selling better than one would expect for a port

Surprised, what after One Piece and all.

They literally just did with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Also see Animal Crossing Welcome Amiibo if it has to be on the same platform.

MK8D isn't a GOTY version at all. Too much new content + different platform.

The only true GOTY release from Nintendo is Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo, but since the "DLC" was free, not sure it really counts.

I don't see them releasing GOTY version of BOTW, for two reasons:

- they rarely drop the price of their games, with notable exceptions (Nintendo Selects)
- including DLC would mean losing revenue stream from used sales, since the only way to get the DLC alon with the game when buying used would be to also get the Nintendo Account of the previous owner along with it.

I see we're more likely to get a Nintendo Selects re-release a few years down the line, but with DLC still sold separately.

Yes. Fully voiced as well.
that's pretty neat,actually

I think they should give Arms the welcome amiibo treatment.Wait until there are 15-20 characters then re-release the game as "Arms Ver.3 edition" or something like that

Original edition BOTW may have its legs cut off by a 'complete' edition with DLC included.

But combined IMO a mil is a lock.

The game is still selling really well at $60, why lose that extra $20 DLC revenue packaging them in together?

In lieu of a budget re-release 'best' version or whatever. Unlike a 'greatest hits' release, a GOTY edition could get double dips.

Anyway I said 'may'. DLC is a new thing for Nintendo, so any move is going to be largely unprecedented. I think Mario Kart 8 DX is a pretty good example of precedent, change of platform or not.

Here's an example of Nintendo releasing a "Complete" version of a game:

(not sure if this released in Japan, but it did release in NA and EU)

I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see a version of BotW with its DLC included released at some point in the future.

I would go for a GOTY Zelda edition in november, when (I think) the new story DLC will hit. Maybe even with an amiibo bundle.

Any guesses how will Destiny 2 do on next MC list?
Shall it be over 150k?

Destiny back in September 2014 did

Wikipedia said:
Destiny sold 91,277 physical retail copies for PlayStation 4
49,503 retail copies for PlayStation 3 within the first week of release in Japan

Demand is still too high. They could still catch $80 from a lot of people who will buy a Switch with Zelda this holiday. I think May 2018 at the earliest, but I'm leaning more towards Fall 2018.

Not this year, the DLC itself can push the normal edition for now.

It could be done once the DLC itself has aged as sales have it have slowed down. Maybe late next year.

I don't think it will come that quickly. Maybe next year sometime.

I'm not sure that DLC alone are THAT strong among the mass market
imho a retail package with a good promotional push would skyrocket the sales this Holiday
also because so far there is no interesting game coming out in November

I don't think botw needs to have a Goty edition that much this year.Maybe they will release an goty edition next year summer so you,but come on,right now the game is still charting, and winter dlc will help it a lot with its legs

There are a lot of people out there who just haven't bought a Switch yet, and especially in the western market, there will be a lot of people picking up BOTW with it, despite it being 8 months old by then. Those people will play through it and then decide to eventually pick up the DLC. That may be only 5% of the people (it'll be a higher percentage), but it's exactly that amount of money that Nintendo is throwing away by releasing a GOTY edition in November. Nintendo software tends to sell for years, even if those games don't have pricedrops. Nintendo won't need a pricedrop until sales dry up.

Yeah, if there's truly a GOTY release with the DLC, it's not gonna be this year. That'd be one huge middle-finger to people who have bought it so far... even western AAA games usually don't get a GOTY edition that early. And honestly, they waited about 5 years to have a budget re-release for Twilight Princess, don't see them effectively dropping the price any time soon.

Here's an example of Nintendo releasing a "Complete" version of a game:

I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see a version of BotW with its DLC included released at some point in the future.

Super Luigi U received a stand-alone release (only the digital version was treated as DLC), and is effectively a separate game (though reusing the same assets... expansion pack would be more accurate term in that case) so it's closer to a combo-pack than anything.

that's pretty neat,actually

I think they're gonna do that, but maybe not as a separate version (just include the updates in new prints). We'll see when they're done with updates!

The reason I don't think it will happen this year is because Zelda is still selling very well at full price and will continue to drive new Switch owners to the vanilla version already available. Companies tend to release Complete/GotY editions to help revive interest in a game that has exhausted much of its selling potential. I don't foresee BotW having any trouble selling extremely well during the fall.

I mean Capcom is doing that with Monster Hunter Stories(and Super Street Fighter 5,maybe?).Not saying following Capcom is a good idea but I think it could work with fighting games.Dlc characters and stages are free, they could rerelease a game with updates included and give it a new name, like "Arms Version 3" or like that,it could attract some people

The NSML WiiU bundle example is really bad. For starters, it came out 3 years after NSMB WiiU - for 60 bucks. For another, in Japan the release was totally different - it got a stand alone physical release instead. Without NSMB bundled in.

Could Nintendo release a Zelda Complete Edition at the end of the year? They could. Do they have to? No. Are they likely to? Not if they feel Zelda retains full priced value.

I think it was the same in Europe I have 2 standalone discs for NSMB and NSML.

Oh, I wasn't trying to imply it's really anything like the situation BotW is in now. It was just an example that Nintendo has created a "Complete" edition in the past, so I could see them doing something like it again in the future. I definitely don't think they'll do anything of the sort for Zelda for a long time, if ever, but I wouldn't be surprised either if it happens eventually.

All three regions got a standalone version of NSLU, but NA and EU also received a bundle of both NSMBU and Luigi U on one disc later.

Sounds about right...if XV2 on Switch can hit like 25k fw Pokken should be able to do at least twice as much. It should benefit from the VC G/S launch as well.

Problem is that even though Pokkén is a Pokémon game, the lack of Pokémon in its title will actually hurt it a little.

Eh, Pokkén somehow managed to break the millon on a dead Wii U, as long as it have Pikachu in its front cover it will be fine.

Well you'd be more interested in buying a catch'em all-kind of Pokémon game after playing a catch'em all-kind of Pokémon mobile spin-off, which Pokkén isn't.
The lack of post-launch support didn't help.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Wtf ? Overshipped ?

No ? Chris already posted that retailers are expecting legs from the title....everyone knows Switch will have massive Holiday weeks and this game will be the only MH for a while - this game isnt going anywhere. If ARMS can sell its 5k per week.....MH will stick along for a while too.
Problem is that even though Pokkén is a Pokémon game, the lack of Pokémon in its title will actually hurt it a little.

I dont think that will be the case....as already mentioned it performed well on the Wii while it way dying and Nintendo has been featuring it in there Switch Promotional videos - it should do fine.

It was on Wii U tho. It was widely known that the Wii U is a flop, while the thing itself still costed €300. Pokkén also is the only retail Pokémon game for the system, so there's no justification for anyone without a Wii U to buy game+system when the NX is about to get unveiled.

With the Switch right now, there is hype around the console, so people are more likely to take a look at the shelf with Switch games in stores. While Pokkén doesn't have 'Pokémon' in its name, it does have Pikachu and others on the cover. That will grab people's attention who then might consider to buy it. By next Summer, there will also be more buzz about the upcoming main Pokémon game for the Switch, so people don't have to worry about buying an expensive system just for this spin-off.

That doesn't have any effect on launch sales, of course, but there is the marketing push. I think Pokkén will reach another 1M on Switch over time.
