i was commenting on how the hardware that should have been pushed, the ones with new releases, dropped, while the 3ds, which saw no no releases, went up a significant amount.

alternatively, the vita tv could be sony's attempt at fostering a sort of console development scene in japan.

a tiny inexpensive portable console that plays a mostly japanese-dominated library from a portable lineup sounds much more like a japanese device than it does an american one. if sony really had wanted this to do something in america, they would have had it out before black friday, and pushed killzone alongside it.

How do you sell this thing to either Japan or America?

I really am having a hard time understanding what exactly the VitaTV is supposed to be as a stand alone product and who it is aimed at. The audience that wants Vita games on TV must be miniscule. Is there a long term strategy at work here?

In contrast, the upcoming Amazon ARM console will probably have the same $99 price tag, offer exclusive games, 1080p output, and will tap into the large android app system. VitaTV looks pretty underwhelming in comparison.

The only thing it looks good for is as a PS4 extender + netflix 720p player.

No. Next Nintendo's home system should be based on a original idea. Wii was based on something never done before. Crazy, but new. Wii U merely follows iPod's hype. Obviously, the consumer doesn't see any advantage in buying a Wii U at the moment - exactly because it's not an interesting device. On the core, the Gamecube suffered the same problem: why buying it when you had a PS2 with everything you wanted + the DVD driver in it?

Nintendo needs just to stop following what others are doing. They are failing so badly exactly because they ignored their own blue ocean strategy. I wonder if they realized it.

Isn't that the point? The new idea doesn't have to be revolutionary, it just has to be something people actually want. Who else has actually done this seemingly basic thing? They wouldn't be following anybody. A system that doubles as both a handheld and a console would have a lot of appeal and would make a ton of sense for a whole bunch of reasons.

As neat as the Vita TV is they would have honestly just been better off sticking HDMI out onto the device.

Fantastic numbers for 3DS but blah for everything else -_- where is smokey Dave? Haven't seen him in this thread? :p

Also does anyone see that when God Hand 2 gets released in November (and Vita 2000 in oct) , hardware sales aren't going to be that impressive if sales are really low now for a few months if it stays at 7-10k a week instead of 15-20k a week? I mean that if GH2 gets vita sales to 50k that week, doesn't the low sales now negate that?

Edit:

Wow looks like the 3DS sales is following the same pattern as PSP just before Monhun 3 was released in japan

I think FFXIV's numbers are pretty good. FFXI had a subscriber base of what, 400~500k and was their most profitable FF? I think 200k for the PS3 version in Japan only is a pretty good start, hopefully they are able to keep people subscribing.

I hope the 3DS has really great numbers next week, and not just 100k or something.

Vita TV will be interesting in Japan since the Vita already has about as good SW suppport as it will ever see regardless of any sales boosts and it will be completely up the HW.

Not my mistake for the late thread. I kept getting 504 errors every time I tried to post from this side of the planet.

I think Tom Clancy is the first multiplatform 360 beats Wii U.

The ARM console is going to have a controller similar to the DS3?

How doesnt it make sense? It fits in within the PlayStation eco system perfectly.
It's also a perfect compliment to the 3DS just like the PSP/DS

It's sales and the fact they had completely change direction with speak differently. Heck it was essentially a psp part 2 however the psp had faded massively in west (so it was likely never going to sell gangbusters regardless of the climate) and it managed to squander all legacy advantages the psp had in Japan.

Wow @ Famitsu Top 10

5 PS3 titles
3 3DS
1 PSV
1 PSP

Is this the first time PS3 has so many titles in Top 10, especially after the release of 3DS?

Edit: Mistook the top title as PS3 but it was PSP -_-

I'm looking forward to Dengeki's Top 3 Wii U games this week...just to see how low Splinter Cell: Blacklist for Wii U debuted.

Nintendo reaping what they sew. They overestimated themselves and underestimated mobile which left them in a situation that is pretty good but could be much better.

Only three more days until MONSTER HUNTER 4 launches in Japan.

It'll be tracked in next week's sales (2 days of sales)...next week will be insane.

A lot of devs seem to just be moving over to mobile with their smaller games for obvious reasons.

Yeah, how dare people actually discuss about the two biggest releases of the year in Japan.

I know what you are talking about but i think people are extra excited because of the combo of Pokemon + Monster Hunter. Both will result in exploding sales and it should be interesting to see how it unfolds.

I think it has more to do with publishers' mindset than Nintendo overstimating themselves. On one gand, you have smaller, biche developers like Atlus finding succes on the system. On the other hand' you have Square Enix announcing iOS game regularly even though Bravely Default on the 3DS is one of their most successful new IPs is a while. Not much outside of DQ remakes. Capcom has a bunch of games they could release on the thing, but they don't do it. They could even create smaller, new IPs that would cost less on the 3DS than on home consoles.

Everyone seems to have a different focus. I remember playing stuff like The Avalon Code and Izuna on the DS. Izuna -like games could work as downloable games, but for some reason, Japan wants physical releases to sell any meaningful numbefs. This is only going to get worse even on consoles

I know, right? Specially when they are coming out only one month away from each other. How come people are excited for that?

Har har. Not everyone is waiting for the inevitable Pokehunter circlejerk that's about to take place. Maybe some of us want to know what's going on in the pipeline for other systems like Wii U and PS3.

There is always room in this thread to discuss sales in general if you want to, and I bet that even though those two games are definitely going to be the main focus on the weeks they come out, there is going to be discussion about other games and systems as well. It is not like someone is going to ban you for not talking about Pokemon or MoHun.

And during even more months than necessary if Sammy Samusu is not banned at that point.

Sorry for the off-topic but, is he back already? It would be cool to have him here next week for MoHun! :p

Wii U: I' ve said many times before my opinion
PS3: This year started the downward trend and like every other system that is replaced it will keep falling harder year after year from now on.

Now we can talk for Monster Hunter 4 and Pokemon X/Y

The latest big push for Puzzle & Dragons sees a mega collaboration project between Puzzle & Dragons and two other popular smartphone apps—Dragon’s Dogma Quest and Monster Hunter Felyne Bazaar. So what you're saying is you want to go back to doom and gloom? I mean, that's essentially what's in the pipeline for both systems (especially Wii U) until the fall/holidays.
