Splatoon digital sales in Japan were around 18% of total sales by end of October.

If the they are still 18%, with 862,000 at retail, Splatoon is probabily at 1.05 million retail+digital.

Well, 3DS sales will make them smile, Mario Maker's performed solidly, and all of those games were cheap titles with heavily reused assets. I'm sure internal expectations were pretty damned low.

They're filling time on both platforms now, so I'd be surprised if anyone in Nintendo was losing sleep over the performance of these titles.

Great MH result, considering also the digital possible sales we heard about and the stock issues all around. Good week also fro the 3DS even if down YoY. Great anticipation for the digital update also for YW Busters?

Very, very strong week for PS4: it's true that if these are the biggest numbers of a normal week, those are not "3DS-like" numbers, but it must also be noted how weak this holidays season's lineup is, in terms of PS4 Japanese games.

Good results also for Wii U, I think nobody thought possible to see it so firmly up YoY.
And this is due especially to both Splatoon and SMM, with the first as the real MVP of the year in Japan, imho.

I have a sneaking suspicion that when we get a title that is actually effective as a direct comparison (DQ11, one would assume), we'll find that DQ is bigger on handhelds these days. It's a tough call, there. FF hasn't really ever been driven by handhelds anyway.
