I don't know but I feel that PS4 hardware should have gotten a bigger boast. Its constantly getting 100k+ releases and got a new color too and still not getting above 50k.

Previously I thought it will do around 1.9m this calendar year but now I have some doubts. Anyway just my 2 cents

the difference between d5 and d4/d3 isn't large. they're also end of life sales while disgaea 5 for ps4 is on a platform that's about 18 months from being replaced.

also, having the initial cast return for disgaea d2 didn't work, so you probably won't see that trick pulled a second time.

At 9 weeks in, PS4 is about 120,000 units higher than last year, which ended at 1.8m...and you think this is evidence it won't hit 1.9m? That seems an odd inference.

I don't know where high expectations for D5C come from after how D5 performed. 50-100k should be the target for NIS and that's where it should land in the end.

I don't think Switch support has anything more than the 3DS got though with the exception of Disgaea/NIS. They were also caught in the Kenka Bancho 6 trap, all the other titles PSP/Vita fans like are nowhere to be seen on Switch.



So the franchise has been in a pretty steady decline apart from D3 to D4 then? That's pretty bad for NIS.

Pretty good comparisons to look at.
When you look at the LTD of those, don't have to be that worried for some of those titles. Hell, AC3 going from 3k to 17k is promising for Disgaea lol.

Dunno but I thought the TV spot for Horizon here was fantastic. Whether it had an effect is anyone's guess.

As for the lousy Switch software attach rate...scalpers maaaan. Stock constraints up to the summer (?) will keep vendor prices inflated, and they might even increase if Splatoon 2 looks to be a system seller and Nintendo can't keep up with hardware demand.

Decent start for Switch. Software-wise I'm particularly impressed with Bomberman. Hopefully it leads to Konami releasing more of Hudson's franchises.

The Switch release schedule looks a bit light now, hopefully smaller releases like Wonder Boy III get a bigger focus. Is this confirmed for a Japanese release? I ask because as I understand the licensing is different between domestic and overseas, so not sure if they can release in Japan or not.

Even if the game doesn't reach an attach rate similar to the insanely high Western ones it still had a pretty good debut on Switch: the numbers are almost a perfect match with Skyward Sword's debut, but the context is pretty different.

Moreover, the game was also released on Wii U, and while the sales were much lower (inevitable, given the state of the platform), it still gave a contribution: between the two versions, 238,112 units sold, and that's a very good debut looking at the franchise's recent history. It's going to be interesting to see if the Switch version can keep on selling well in the next few weeks

Solid debut for 1-2-Switch. Less than half of the original Wii Sports and Wii Play, but a bit higher than Nintendo Land. Also, it seems (going by Chris1964's post from earlier) that the game saw an important increase from preorders to actual sales, which could be a good sign for sales further down the line.

At first, I was expecting a bit more from Bomberman, but it's still a pretty good performance, and by far the best debut for a game in the series in years and years. Konami obtained to bring the franchise back from the dead, at least for now...and we've already seen they kind of botched this return too. Interestingly enough, this is a game that seems to be going in and out of stock, looking at different countries' Amazon charts (it's actually sold out on Amazon.co.jp right now)

Like Bomberman, I had higher expectations initially, but for a late collection of ports at launch, it still looks like a decent result and a decent launch foundation (if possible) for the Musou genre on the platform; its debut is far better than Warriors Orochi 3: Hyper on Wii U - which...doesn't mean that much, of course - and not that far off from Dynasty Warriors Next at Vita's launch, but quite lower than Samurai Warriors Chronicles on 3DS, which still stands as the best debut for a Musou at a launch of a platform in recent times, somehow XD

...Does a thing like "relative overperformer" exist? By looking at the historical datas, the past few years saw several instances when a Puyo Puyo game was released on a console first, and then put on other consoles after several months, with Puyo Puyo Tetris changing things a bit since it was released simultaneously on 3DS, PS3, Vita and Wii U (but it also got PS4 and Xbox One versions released later). Well, despite being released 3 years later than the original, it still had the second best debut for a Puyo Puyo game, and incredibly near the disappointing debut for Puyo Puyo Chronicles back in December last year. Also, the best debut for a later version of a Puyo Puyo game in years. It's quite interesting on its own, especially since it's a launch game. Is it possible that the hybrid nature of Switch helped the game perform higher than expected, since the series has obtained a major share of its overall shares from handhelds in the recent years? Could it be that people who bought 1-2-Switch went and bought Puyo Puyo Tetris as well, given the nature of the series?

It's possible NIS could be already "satisfied" with this kind of sales, since it's a late port with DLCs of a game that didn't exactly set the charts of fire back in 2015, and they didn't even promote it that much, but it still stands as a disappointment if we look at historical datas, even the portable versions alone. Very low, and even if we consider the possibility it gets more legs than usual episodes due to being a launch game, 20,000 copies is the highest it can get, so still small numbers. As said in the other thread, hopefully NIS won't stop their plans to release more Switch games due to D5's result.

Small numbers again. As said by others, what was the point of this release at Switch's launch. It's possible, as suggested by others users as well, that this could be Tokyo RPG Factory's way of getting the hang of Switch's development for their next project (which could be PS4/Switch/PC). Surely, the development must not have been exactly resource-intensive.

I'm also of the opinion that Switch won't sell like 3DS until it gets a price drop and a more portable SKU release. I'd expect that next year (surely ahead of the holidays). Until then I expect it to track closer to Wii-U than 3DS, but happy to be proved wrong.

Also, what's all this "non-holiday" sales stuff all about? Is there any data which shows that consoles sell differently in their launch week depending on the time of year that they release?

Very good launch for Zelda. Will have no problems hitting 500k at this rate. Maybe even more. But I'm conservative.

Very good start for Horizon. New western IP taking off in Japan like this is promising for Sony.

Very bad for Nippon Ichi. As expected of that failure of a company.

i don't know what dark hero days did in relation to the rest. this is just north america.

probably the only two in the series that were disappointing were d4 ps vita, especially considering how d3 did on vita, and dd2 compared to the expectations of a direct sequel to disgaea 1.

Especially since 3DS is still alive in Japan, and it's a cheaper way to get Nintendo stuff.

I actually think that it's a good strategy, my only question is if a "soft launch" is better than waiting until the holidays this year and going for a "hard launch" with massive software support and massive hardware supply. But they don't want a dead period between Wii-U and Switch like what happened between Saturn and Dreamcast, so we'll see. I don't think that there is an easy answer to that.

They essentially already had that. The wii U was essentially dead months ago, much longer depending on what region you look at. Unlike sega Nintendo still had its main console, the 3DS to keep them and their brand relevant.

I'm not sure where I stand. I agree that there was risk waiting another 6 months or so to release the switch. At the same time if this released in or near the holidays with Zelda, mario, splatoon, DQ and whatever else Nintendo had the hype would have been insane. I don't necessarily think that was the better option but I do think the 'soft' launch may see them selling some abysmal numbers in various markets very soon and I feel like that could affect perception of the console.

I'm expecting "abysmal numbers" pre-holidays ... but that isn't necessarily bad ... if we look at Playstation hardware numbers ... they're becoming less front-loaded over the years. They're generally "abysmal" at first, but improve to "respectable" numbers later.

We can expect less than 3DS numbers, but 3DS+Wii-U? Maybe 20 million, or I would expect at least 15 million ... completely respectable and managable numbers. I can see Nintendo following up the Switch ... but maybe the last dedicated one IMO. I think they have to move Pokemon to mobile eventually ... but they can probably wait another generation at least.

And unlike in the West you can actually get back a good percentage of what you paid for the game when you sell it back. In the first week (on in some cases the first few weeks), if you sell back a popular game you could get 70 or even 80% of it's price back. It's a lot safer to take a risk on buying a game day one in Japan.

Plus people still actually trade games here. Like person to person. No store or online site involved.

I guess we'll see if MH is already happening this year in the next few months, even by watching Western Directs / E3: if MH XX for 3DS is not announced for a Western release in the next months, we could start sensing that something's going on behind the scenes (quite similarly to how MH3G's Western announcement had to wait for long due to the Wii U version's announcement).

Dengeki data should be available in an hour or two. Unfortunately, they will not have sell-through for Disgaea 5, too unsignificant for them.

But maybe they have Nobunaga's Ambition, since they have the full Top 50.

Agree.^^ I mean, there is a reason why whenever i went to Japan on Holiday, i always go to look for second hand store to buy cheap game and bring them back home lol.^^

Princess Maker 1 and 2 mint edition is still one of my best collection.^^
