X6 is absolutely impossible, no matter which stage is attempted.
Haha, well, I tried doing it and starting from the top left going clockwise I beat all but the last two before giving up. Apparently Infinity Mijinion or however you spell it IS doable as the youtube I linked proves, and I figured the last one was doable just really tedious.

X1 was the easiest for me, even though it was my first time going without and I had to relearn how to play and experience game overs for the first time in years. Half the game is designed for no-dash to begin with.
X2 is harder. Legitimately so. Some bosses like Violen are assholes.
X3 is more punishing but with dumber AI so it's all about not fucking up.
X4 is pretty hard, but entirely doable. There's one part late in the game you may think you need an upgrade to get past, but it's doable. The only roadblock to the venture is Reaper Sigma.
X5 is hell. Yeah, that's right. X5. Hell. You have no idea.

Yeah, the real challenge in X1 are the sigma stages because those were made with dashing in mind. Sigma 1 felt like an incredibly harsh wall for a while due to the combination of the vertical shaft from hell with Kuwanger waiting at the top, plus Bosspider being annoying enough to beat Buster only, let alone when she gets a hit everytime you guess wrong without the dash boots. I'm most comfortable with the X1-3 physics, so those should be fun.

Oh, I believe you on X5. It's only a minor step down from being as ridiculous as X6. The Black Devil in Sigma 1 still gives me nightmares...

One really shouldn't compare oneself to Hideofbeast. That guy is just nuts.

You know, it only occured to me to go without dash in areas where it wasn't mandatory to have. After getting to the sigma stages I dashed with impunity.

When I first started out I made peace with the idea of not being the guy to practice so much he could beat the game uninterrupted without taking any hits. I'm just glad he's around to show certain things weren't impossible.

To be honest, I've never beaten Giant Robot Sigma in X5. I've gotten there but leaving my ps2 on just to avoid having to work my way back wasn't attractive to me. I play other games too!

Till this day I still have no idea how I beat X5 back when I was a kid.

This part is pure torture.

Well, if the challenge forbids the abilities you get from rescuing, then yeah, it becomes literally impossible. Unless I‘m misremembering and X only needed the jumping boost or abusing the physics with the flame sword instead of both.

I could of have 100%ed X6 if it weren't for the fact those stupid virus enemies infecting the reploids in certain stages. I was pretty close though.

But yeah, fuck that awful game. Tedious shit.

That level was fucking evil. What were they thinking?

Hah, that was the reason why I used the password to give me Chill Penguin beaten without the boots. The Sigma stages without them are pretty much the real challenge, with every stage having it's own walls to conquer. Hell, you know the otherwise mundane jump right after you beat Storm Eagle in Sigma 2? Without the boots, that jump has to be done with pixel perfect precision to grab onto the very bottom of the right platform and climb back up, or else you just plummet to your death. And all because the platform where you fight SE is raised higher than the normal elevation in the rest of the game (which, btw, also makes it so Eagle gets a guaranteed hit on his dive attack if you guess it's incoming direction wrong, since you have less time to react in his Sigma 2 fight than in his own stage).

It changes the entire dynamic for the Sigma fight itself too. Suddenly Velguarder becomes an incredible annoyance that can easily take out half your health before Sigma, and of course Sigma's second form can already wipe you out in 2 hits without the armor upgrade.

All this talk of how hard MMX5 was seems to conflict with my memories of that game, I remember thinking MMX5 was pretty easy, maybe the Xtreme difficulty made bosses insane but I don't remember many platforming sections that were too tricky. X6 though screw that game.

It's a shame that my dream of having a Bass/Forte subseries will never be realized.

Guess I have to live with Megaman and Bass.

Dammit.

I have a question about X4-X6.

They always said in the games that using Zero should be left to the "Expert" players. But what I don't get is, those games become pathetically easy when you use Zero, especially in X5 with the spinning jump attack (don't remember the name) and the infinite combo in X6.

Using X is way harder, in my opinion.

The follow-ups to Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X getting canned are still one of the worst things to happen this gen. Mark Gatha-voiced X is still my favorite, and getting remakes of at least X to X3/MM1 - MM2 would have been great. Alas... :(

I didn't know they were even being worked on, I just remember wanting them greatly. Would have been awesome.

As far as I know, there was a whole series planned for MHX, with some assets for MHX2 already finished. It's the reason why Day of Sigma doesn't exactly fall in line with the canon for the original X series, since it was meant to be a retcon of sorts. Unfortunately, poor sales lead to the whole project being scrapped. I would have been fine with the games being downscaled too, since the voice acting and FMVs likely ran up costs way more than needed.

I did always find it amusing that Powered Up and MHX sold better in the US than they did in Japan, which made me laugh when the one "The US doesn't care for Mega Man" interview came out.
The thing that rather annoys me is that Mega Man X Collection was going to have redone voice acting for X4 by the same group that did the PSP remakes - and, if I recall correctly, voice-acting/retranslated scripts for the other games in addition - but the existence of the PSP remakes, and the intent for them to become a series, meant Inafune stamped his foot down and said "NO U" to the whole shebang. In the end, all that wound up altered was the addition of the word "damn" to MMX's opening stage.

And then the PSP remakes didn't take off, rendering the whole loss meaningless. Man, as narmtastic as the original versions are, I wanted to see not-awful X4 cutscenes. :I

Probably because X encourages ranged shots at a usually safe distance, while Zero's close combat normally leads to getting hit much easier. Of course, they likely didn't count on players being able to break the games as easily as they did. And, well, X6 was just largely untested in general.

So Command Mission is okay I guess? Maybe I'll play it later then. Maybe.

Zero was helluva lot harder to play than X in X4 iirc. You could cheese a lot of the boss fights by exploiting weaknesses with X.

But then again, that game is pathetically easy except the fight with Sigma.

Speaking of Command Mission, was that game any good?

the random encounter rate is ABSURD. Seriously, some parts had it where you'd take 2 steps, random encounter. 1 more step, random encounter. repeat. The battle system is a lot of fun but damn, the amount of battles is truly excruciating.

Yeah, X6 really is one of the most rushed pieces of shit in existence. The Zero infinite combo is so fucking broken I love it (which is the only thing about the game besides the music that I love).

But honestly, it probably has the best Mega Man soundtrack ever other than MM2. I seriously love that shit.

And I really wish Capcom would release Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X on 3DS. Mega Man Powered Up might be my favorite Mega Man game ever. So. Much. Content. And I like the level creator in Powered Up way more than LittleBig Planet and others.

From what I remember, Command Mission has one of the most visually striking game hubs ever. Tall frickin' tower, rising way up high into the clouds. It looks so awesome, even now. The whole game had tons of great art, and the music was pretty darn swell.

I ought to try the game again someday.

Baby steps. I still want my Powered Up on PSN. :(

MegaMan Network Transmition is the best recent console MM game.
Hard as hell at the beginning and gets easier as you progress.

Command Mission had the best artstyle imo

I had high expectation given that people from the Breath of Fire team was on it.
Somewhat entertaining if you like MegaMan and JRPGs...
Gameplay is slow and the story is forgettable... since I don't remember what happened... :p

^Story is simple:
X and a team go to stop a rebellion started by a rogue faction in a City, along the way they split up and X reunites with Zero and Axl and teams up with other Reploids to stop the rebellion. There's a plot twist by the end of sorts too.
IIRC Sigma does not appear in the game

Command Mission also had this pimp-
691149-command_spider_1__large.jpg

My idea for CM2 would include the ability to recruit Spider via finding that he had transferred his personality and memories to a location along with Redips' to some location, you explore that dungeon, fight Redips and then Spider joins you

Didn't they put a dual pack combo of MHX and Power Up on PSN? Or was that just a physical release?

I know it just came out like last year or something, so if it's just a physical release, that makes no damn sense.

Network Transmission is good, but it ain't got shit on MM9!

I still need to beat Network Transmission.

Physical release only. Capcom not making sense this gen is an unfortunately common thing.

Yeah, its art is great. I don't know if I'd call the game itself great, but I had plenty of fun with it...until I reached the last chapter and got stuck on that fish dragon whatever boss after the boss rush and didn't feel like grinding at all so I just quit.

Is it still possible to get the MMX complete works at a decent price? Every other complete works is priced right but this fucker is worth 500 usd at amazon.

The way that Zero's "Slash/Dash Cancel/Slash" exploit was so easy to do in X4 and X5, I'd almost be surprised if they DID expect it in some way. :lol

Finding tricks like that was probably part of the reason I ended getting drawn to the DMC series so many years after the fact. I know some people liken DMC1 to Castlevania. But to me, at least, DMC felt more akin to what I could have imagined a Megaman X/Zero game could have been like if they successfully broken the 3D ceiling with Rockman a generation or so ago. Especially by the time DMC3 came around, and Dante was basically citing Megaman-isms by beating bosses and taking their powers...

Anyways, has anyone been thinking of doing a 25th anniversary playthrough thread similar to the Final Fantasy one? If anyone plans on doing that, I'd so be in since I have been dying to replay the Classic and X series, and a few that I haven't beaten yet (I might retry the Star Force series, and I'm definitely going to beat Legends 2, Command Mission and Network Transmission).

Yeah, I definitely think the DMC series is what the X series would be like if it had a 3D spinoff.

As for the Classic series, I like to think that Ratchet & Clank is a spiritual 3D successor, hahaha.

Unless Udon does a reprint, I don't think so :(
*hugs copy*

Which reminds me, I really hope nobody buys the EXE OCW that's at my comic book store before me, that and Zero are the only ones I'm missing >.>

I wonder if, at this point, there's any way to convince people that a new Classic-style 3D Rockman isn't just another version of Ratchet & Clank. Insomniac genuinely beat Capcom to the punch, and now all the corporation has is the Legends franchise that they hate so much.

you know what little thing bothered me? there was a green squadmate, he had a hammer as a weapon. When you'd heal/resurrect him, he would say "Fully Healed!" regardless of if you fully healed him or not

drove me nuts

Might've been a mistranslation?
Speaking of CM, one could find a good chunk of Marino fanart on (Japanese) Image boards.
Also wasn't Nana from CM in Maverick Hunter X.
