the end part of that song is amazing

did anyone buy the remastered version of RIP? :lol .. what the fuck...

What's going on with the rematered version? Spotify has the original version, and I have that also on CD...

I love both Metallica and Megadeth. I think that Metallica albums are generally better produced, the choice of songs is superior, and the songs are better written. The lyrics are also way better. But still I listen Megadeth a lot more for some reason. Maybe it's because the lyrics seem more personal (even if Dave is bit of a dick and a total idiot) and more fun and relaxed. I don't know.

Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction, Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings are all brilliant albums in my books.

Metallica had a formula, but I wouldn't say they rehashed their sound. Anyway, that is extremely off topic.

I first heard Rust in Peace when I was in Japan. I had heard people talking about it on a different message board over and over, so while I was in Nakano and a used CD store there, I saw RIP and I was like "Whatever, I got yen to blow" so I bought it. FUCKING GOOD DECISION. I rocked that album the rest of the time I was there.

RIP ends what started with Kill Em All: the thrash golden age. Everything by both bands afterwards was either good to shit, but nothing reached the heights matched during that time. Throw in Slayer's great albums and you had an era that is just unbelievably great.

It's not entirely surprising that I like KEA, then RIP, then the rest of the 80s Metallica and Peace Sells albums. RIP is the one album that I think gets the least respect when it comes to heavy metal and thrash, not by fans of the genre, but in the general public's eye. Thanks to stuff like GH2, perhaps its legend will only grow with time.

i'll say it again AJFA is a rehash of MoP which was a rehash of RTL, what makes One that much different from say Sanitarium or Fade to Black? they the exact same song structure basically, how do all 3 albums distinguish themselves? the only difference between MoP and AJFA is a new inaudible bass player, the same guy produced all 3 albums and they have a similar sound

what exactly did metallica do for metal besides making it big mainstream? metallica wasnt even the most influential thrash metal band, slayer (say what you will about them) had a much bigger impact on metal today then metallica ever did, metallica's could be said to be influential in the regard that they may have been someone's gateway drug into better heavy metal idk
Whatever, im going to take this off topic.

So what they had a template for MOP, RTL and AJFA, I figured that out when i was like 12. That doesnt make One any less of a good song. And AJFA is probably one of metallica's best songs. And I could listen to any one of their three "instrumental" songs from their albums any time.
They found something they liked with RTL and followed it for two more albums and look what happened when they broke away from that. And IMO RTL is their weakest of the three anyway in song writing, riffs and production. So refining that is somehow bad?

Anyway, Slayer is another special band from that era and I absolutely love their first 4 or so albums as well. But plain and simple Metallica was more influential for metal and even rock in general than Slayer ever will be. And yes because metallica introduced metal to a wider audience thus indirectly introducing fans of the genre to bands like Slayer and Megadeth, that makes metallica more influential. Not to mention the amount of metal bands that followed afterwards that you can hear many elements of metallica in their music.

I would argue that even Megadeth is and was more influential than Slayer.

Sorry to go off topic, i just feel like its a good discussion.

Back to Megadeth does any one else feel like Kill the King and Angry Again were good enough to include on a proper album?

One of my favorite albums ever.

Tornado of Souls is probably my favorite Megadeth song.

Rank:
1. Tornado of Souls
2. Holy Wars
3. Hanger 18
4. Take No Prisoners
5. Five Magics
6. Lucretia
7. Rust In Piece
8. Poison Was The Cure
9. Dawn Patrol

Every track is so fucking good.

Can't speak for KtK, but AA is one of my faves, and quite honestly, I actually bought Last Action Hero soundtrack, it has some good music on it...but to answer your question, yes, it is as deserving a song as any for a top spot on an album. But I'm guessing he got a good deal for just that track, who knows.

You haven't heard kill the king?

Why so low? =(

I'd put Poison lower, of all the tracks on the album it's the one I enjoy the least.
Am I the only one here who really likes Poison was the Cure? The riff is sick, and it's really hard to list off my favorites for this album because every song is mind blowing so I guess my list should look more like this...

Song rank:
1. Holy Wars, Hangar 18, Tornado of Souls, Poison was the Cure, Take No Prisoners, Rust in Peace, Lucretia, Five Magics.
2. Dawn Patrol

Happy?

so because metallica sold more records they are more influential? slayer's reign in blood is more influential than anything metallica ever released (although i think its over-rated but thats a topic for another day), i think its a safe bet to say RiB (along with a few other albums from that time period) that influenced a whole movement/genre in metal

The best Megadeth song on a movie soundtrack was Go To Hell from the Bill and Ted's movie IMO.

Awesome riffs
Awesome solos
Lyrics are hilarious to me

KtK is awesome, Angry Again is an awesome song that deserves more recognition.

And fuck those dissing Dawn Patrol, great track.

Oh and no, Metallica is one of the most influential metal bands of all time up there with Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Mainstream or not they influenced more bands good and bad than slayer, ask any band of any genre of metal about their influences and Metallica will show up.

Metallica and Megadeths guitar playing influenced the new generation of metal bands more than anything out there.

Not taking away anything away from Slayer, Its just that without a question James and Dave had a lot more followers.

Oh and who else thinks Anthrax, while awesome, are no where near the level of the other 3.

Pretty much agree 100%.

I really really like Slayer, but they simply are not as influential as Metallica and Megadeth. I think even they would tell you this.

I wasnt ragging on it, just on the fact he listed it sepratley from the rest of the songs on the album :lol

Am I the only one that likes Killing is My Business the most? Rust in Peace is awesome, but so is Countdown, Youthenasia, and even Cryptic Writings (Disintegraters, Secret Place).
