Metal Arms...I'm not feeling it.

Maybe it's just me...but when I play through Metal Arms, I get the feeling that I've played this game before and better in some specific Insomniac games.

What am I missing here?

Can't really argue quality-wise against Insomniac. R+C wups it, especially now that we have Up Your Arsenal. But for an xbox platformer/shooter, it's pretty good stuff. Framerate is much better than the PS2 version, too. Multiplayer with a couple of friends is a hoot, if nothing original. It's the whole rusty robot shtick that endears me to MA, I think.

How much of it have you played? I find MA gets a lot better towards the end. That's what kept me going back to it anyway.

I think I'm three levels in. It's kind of boring so far.

Opinion disregarded. Why don't you wait til you've actually played more than 7% of the game?

The shooting action in Metal Arms is way more intense and challenging than the R&C games. In fact, it's closer in gameplay style to Halo than R&C.

This is sounding vaguely reminiscent of 60 hours to unlock the fun. :p

Not to say I'm not going to stop playing through it, but I hope it's better then the last two GAF-HYPE titles that I bought--Ico and Beyond Good and Evil, two games that wound up being shit-tacular.

Not even close. The first few levels of R&C sucked too. The town level, #3 or #4, is when it gets good, and then the Wastelands are great fun once you learn how to handle the Zombiebots. After that it just gets better & better.

I'll give you Ico though. Way overrated.

Didn't like Metal arms. Fuck I hate the crying noise the robots make when you shot them. Annoying garbage game.

wow! I enjoyed both very much.

You're right. I felt the same way. Rented it, dawdled about the gameworld, and returned it the next day. I found neither the world nor its inhabitants interesting. That was my problem with it.

It's hilarious to observe someone praising a stiff R&C knockoff, while dismissing Ico as overrated. :lol It tells me where their taste lies.

It starts out a little slow, but after you get some more weapons and the ability to control other robots , it gets really fun IMHO. Great game overall.

It's more of a run and gun shooter ala Halo than an "action platformer", i think the game would be served better as a FPS since the crosshair in 3rd person view can be quite inaccurate sometimes. Don't forget that you can set 4 weapon+grenade (or scope) presets with the d-pad.

Ico and BG&E sucked, but Metal Arms is good shiz. Good controls, a meaty shotgun, and great explosions: IT'S THE RECIPE FOR GREATNESS.

I didn't care for it at all,the weapons needed more balance, seems like it took 7-8 rockets to bring down those huge robots and just all the weapons seemed to be to alike as far as damage goes. *shrug*

You know what? I didn't feel it either! So I played Whiplash instead -- and look where that got me!

actually different weapons are effective vs. different kinds of enemies..

when you get the different abilities, like getting to take over robots, and have to fight the titan robots the game has the action of halo.

There are 39 levels, you only played 3!

Are you finding it too difficult?
Which version are you playing? the PS2 version was handled by a different developer

I didn't play much of it, but got bored very quickly. Most of the weapons seemed ineffective or too ammo-limited, and platforming was either super easy or nonexistent. It didn't seem as though things were going to get any better, and there's games out there that I would rather play (and are fun from the get-go).

GAF Hype Train Successes
Metal Gear Solid 3
Chronicles of Riddick

GAF Hype Train Wrecks
Katamari Damacy
Metal Arms

I really liked this game. I have it on the GCN, and it's pretty g-ddamn tough, and VERY long. Almost 40 levels. It starts off pretty slow, but eventually opens up and becomes a VERY diverse game. It was truly a labor of love, and one of my favorite action titles on the system.

The beauty of the game is how open structured the level design is. There is no single best way to conquer a level. You keep finding faster and newer ways to beat each level each time you play it

For me the game started to shine in the Zombiebot junkyard, and permanently hooked me when I went into the trenches. Metal Arms is just MEATY and packed with good stuff. And just because they're robots doesn't mean you can't torture them. The saw blade weapon + zoom scope combo was my very best friend and ally.

The Zombiebot level was excellent, and the boss was just too much fun.

WTF?!?! Metal Arms is Halo in 3rd person, not R&C.

I just got past droid town, killed the first boss (so easy on normal difficulty: grab and shoot, repeat as necessary)...

And yes, I got the PS2 version. OMG WTF DIFFERENT GAME!?!?!?! Riiiight. :P

Anyhoo, the game has some shining moments of goodness, but the most of the package is slightly above average.

Feel this instead:

"Defensor"

How interesting, the left one actually kind of looks like the Transformer Defensor...

Anyway, I got Metal Arms for PS2 cheap (which means around $25 over here) and I wasn't that impressed. The game is kind of fun but the framerate is really horrible. Does it ever improve?

PS2 and framerate in the same sentence make Sony cry..

And you too! You too!

Well, maybe not every game is for everybody to like?

I am a big R&C fan but Metal Arms has it's own draw to it. Much more action oriented, much smarter, I think. Not to mention much much harder than the cakewalk R&C games.

I haven't played BG&E, but I didn't think the ICO bashing would be complete until I came in to say that the game sucked.

So yeah. ICO sucks.

Cant believe all the hate for MA, actually what i cant believe that so many that hate it admit to only playing the start, I mean how can you claim something as a "GAF Hype Train Wreck" when you "Didnt play very much of it"? FFS finish the game then try and claim it's a R&C rip-off.

I thought I was the only one that didn't like it. I got slammed for my review of the game. Some moron from the development house pretended to be a regular poster and got everyone all riled up.

I had a blast from the get-go. It was just a very challenging and satisfying game all around. Never played the PS2 version, though; the Xbox rev was like butter.
