why'd they go and make it this fucking cringe tho

how about letting the actual video game explain the story for once?

oh n/m it's 2025, the age of autism and instant gratification. can't let anything be subtle anymore. spoon feed the catered gaymers with content so that they can make tiktok videos about it and circle jerk each other about it

Tell me you are over 40 without telling me you are over 40. :messenger_beaming:

I'm in 100% agreement with you.

Somewhat off topic but I actually noticed this watching Alien: Earth. The show's intro features a bunch of flashes of future events and action and I'm like.. Do the producers have so little faith in the story that they think if they don't hype the audience up that "cool shit is coming" they will instantly be turned off? It's like when you watch a trailer for a movie and there's a shorter, 6 second trailer before the trailer and it's like TRAILER BEGINS NOW. Has brainrot gotten so bad we have to have a 6 second trailer for a 90 second trailer in the same video? Jesus christ.

Looks alright.

And with all this talk in the trailer about having to kill her, I wonder if they would actually change the story a bit and have him spare her at the end in secret.

Dang, this is looking nice. I hope the gameplay holds up.

What's a spoiler anyway. :messenger_tears_of_joy:
I liked what i saw from the Virtuous Mission gameplay we got from a streamer. In the end it's still MGS3 and the stuff added is a good excuse to replay it.

1. No
2. This isn't Square-Enix
3. No, because the entirety of the Metal Gear Saga is continued based on what happens at the end
4. No

To be fair, MGS3 in 2004 was anything but subtle.

we are in an era where Nintendo thinks it needs to tell you how to do a ground point each time you are on a platform with an already massive ground pound icon on it. not only with text but with a literal example video showing every time.

games aren't made for people with functional brains anymore.
if you have to think while playing, the higher ups at these companies fear that they will lose sales.

The idea of you being Big Boss was not revealed, only hardcore fans kinda figured it out early on

Also, there were no hints in 2004 that the boss was supposed to be the "big baddie" of the game

I didn't see anything before the game launched but I thought I was playing as solid snake and the fact it was set in the 60's or something confused the shit out of me.

Nah man, in one of the first trailers, you see her betraying him. And I remember another trailer where she is front and center as the main baddie.

I will look up the trailer later.

Why only sell to smart people when you can sell to both smart and stupid people?

we aren't even talking about stupid people anymore... more and more devs seem to cater to legitimately mentally disabled audiences.
maybe they overestimate how stupid the use of AI chatbots made the general public already.

Ok, in that case:

Why sell to smart and stupid people only when you can (and probably you should) sell to mentally disabled audiences?

Now that we are including mentally disabled: what would be the issue to take those audiences into account?

I'm not talking about this game in particular. It makes sense to me that they have spell out everything given that newer audiences probably don't hold the same context we had back when this was first released. A lot of fans played the first one and the second one but I don't think the younger gen is familiar with the franchise at the same level. If they are looking into this as an introduction product to the franchise, the clearer the better.

However, in general, isn't ethical to (and financially logical) to make a product that is accesible even for people with disabilities? A phrase like that doesn't really affect the enjoyment of the product for the general audience and it can make all the difference for someone that is mentally disabled.

you absolutely eventually reach a point where dumbing down things will negatively affect how the target audience sees the game.

look at Monster Hunter Wilds. Monster Hunter was dumbed down over time, each iteration became more "streamlined".
up to a certain point this resulted in the series becoming more popular.
then MH Wilds released and crossed a line where not only the original core MH fanbase, but also the, in recent years added, more casual fanbase were alienated and bored by it.

and then there are games that will never reach a general audience, because the entire genre only appeals to hardcore players that want complexity.
enter Marathon.
a game that wants to be an extraction shooter, but """"streamlined"""" for general audiences.
the result? a dumbed down as fuck game that casual idiots don't care about due to the genre being entirely incompatible with the casual idiot audience, and also a game that not a single fan of the genre gives a flying fuck about because it's so insanely """"""""streamlined"""""""" that there's zero depth or meat to it.

this isn't about this trailer. the whole gaming industry seems to be absolutely terrified by players that don't instantly know what to do, what something means or where to go.

look how Sony insisted of altering God of War Ragnarök shortly before launch. they had test players play through the game, and every time any test player got stuck for even 20 seconds, they made the devs add an NPC line or a UI element that explains exactly what to do.
just one of the many reasons that game is absolute trash.

at some point you reach a threshold where you are catering to an audience that doesn't exist, or that isn't interested in your game in in the first place.

Not watching because I don't want to be reminded of the things I might have forgotten lol though so much of this game is still clear as day in my mind despite not having played it since it first released, can't wait 🥳

you are right. couldnt help it, so just looked it up. it was the TGS 2004 trailer so basically a launch trailer like this one. They literally say its your mission to eliminate her several times.

Amazing trailer to this day. Kojima is a god.

spoiler alert!

I don't know, man. Do you think that if the Monster Hunter formula stayed the same, the audience would have grown or shrinked?

I believe franchises that don't change die because their audiences die with very few notable exceptions. I used to play many more games when I was younger. I still like the hobby but I'm also aware my segment is not the one that produces the most profit to companies.

What do you think about games that don't follow those accessibility "rules" stay in the AA space and games that try to reach the wides audience possible (AAA) do follow rules that resonate with the current market?

I'm talking partly about this trailer and about the industry in general. Kids are very different nowadays just like we were different from the previous generation when we were kids. Do you think our market segment (barely millennial) would have gotten hooked on games if they stayed static like in the 8 bit era? I think each generation has it's own preferences and the natural thing to happen is that older audiences are relegated to second place because we are not the ones behind a lot of the purchases. Luckily there is more niche gaming than ever before so where God of War fails, other options might be more aligned to the tastes of classical gamers.

It came out 21 years ago.....
And alot of people still never played it. Its a launch trailer thread and its gonna attrack people interested who havent played it as well. My friend hasnt played it and he visits here sometimes and he was looking forward to the release. If he pops in here the ending is spoiled.

Only in C CGNoire 's quote. Original comment spoiler tagged it. Just gotta change the quote now

My potentially unpopular opinion is that this remake changes so little to the dated gameplay that the game will appeal more to fans than normie new players anyway. They're still better served starting off at MGSV at this point. As excited as I am for this remake, I can't help but agree with those who kind of classify it as soulless. It's low effort. It was never going to do super well sales wise.

MGS3 deserved an RE2/4 and SH2 caliber remake.

One of my favorite games of all time but im passing on this. Its just too familiar of a remake, and there's too many new games coming out that i'd rather focus on.

Isn't this a spoiler for the gen z kids that never experience this game? 😂

This was the golden age of gaming. Before all the muck and penny pinching crept in. Before bloat became a requirement.

Developers were just trying to craft the best fantasy experience they could for players.

I was never super crazy about the voice acting in MGS3 at times, and it sounds even worse being put over newer graphics. It doesn't fit at all. The mixing was never that good, and some of it sounded flat even back then. Now...it's like, come on. Should've redubbed it.

Agree with your sentiment. But the issue isn't having faith in the story. It is having faith in the audience. Can't blame the creators alone. It's shocking the amount of good shows and movies that people these days pass on because the first 2 minutes didn't blow their minds. Too much "content". Too many distractions. Welcome to ADHD!
