Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater |OT| "The world was split into two - HD and 3D."

I have to admit it: it's way better than the demo they released, also if it's not perfect at all, in terms of polishness and frame rate.
It's been proven that the demo was almost exactly the same, though.

From my impressions the textures and special effects are much better. Especially explosions look much better.

But I have to say, I remembered the game a lot cooler. Cutscenes and dialogue are simply cringeworthy and sometimes downright insultingly dumb. Kojima tries so hard to write a spy story but most of the time its just painfull to watch.

The playable sections are actually quite well suited for portable play, even better than expected.

Dark just wants to remind you (and anyone who might venture into this thread) that the 3DS version is the inferior version. He even cited a source! Think of it as a public service announcement.

I've downloaded the demo. I'm hoping to play it a bit later today. All the positive impressions have me psyched though. This already feels like a must-have purchase.

I'm loving this game, my first play through of Snake Eater, as the camera killed the original for me.

Just missed my chance to kill
The End
early as I didn't have a sniper rifle :( ah well, i've heard the battle is somewhat epic.

Bought the CCP and it should be here tonight, as I find aiming a bit fiddly with the buttons.

Pretty good.
When you mentioned the "weapon lag" when firing, are you taking into account the fact that most of the weapons fire when you release the R button? (outside of automatics, of course)

But yeah, it covered pretty much every feature and issue of the game, so there'll be no complaints from me.

It's been proven that the demo was almost exactly the same, though.

This is the weird thing for me. I swear the actual game is better then the demo, even though I have no idea why on closer inspection.
Playing through the beginning of the Virtuous Mission, I was actually more impressed then when I played the same part in the demo (20 or so times).

It's just...weird.

Yeah. I popped the HD version into my PS3 and compared it. Firing in the 3D version is definitely slower, unfortunately.

You'll be at The Ladder soon enough then

During The End battle (tip):
I totally forgot that the map (not the radar) shows potential sniper locations
... I got pwned a few times before I caught on, and I must have played the PS2 game about 10 times!

I also forgot to get the SVD from the
warehouse off to the West before the cutscene with Volgin making Sokolov piss himself
... so yeah, had to sneaky sneaky and unleash hell with AKs and the shotgun etc.

Another silly mistake I've made was murdering every single soldier I've seen by sneaking up on them and cutting their throat.
The Sorrow encounter is UUUUUBER long because of it
.

My patience is definitely shorter now that I'm a bit older - those long encounters are a bit trying to me now, but this is such a great game. I can understand people not buying this if they have one of the many other versions, but to those who have no alternative or are crying out for another hardcore 3DS game to buy, its a shame if they've been put off by the anti-hype... its brilliant!

It's been proven that the demo was almost exactly the same, though.

That *area* is exactly the same, but the demo is a poor representation of how good the 3DS game is. There are much better looking parts of the game and much more enjoyable parts of the game. I think releasing that section as a demo was a really bad idea. I think Konami were foolish not to hone the controls a little more for non-CPP users, and they totally sabotaged their own numbers with the close timings of this release and the HD editions...

The rest of the game really draws you in, some of the 3D is spectacular, some of the touched up models look great, and I really love some of the new specular details on certain characters' clothing (Ocelot's gloves, Sokolov's Jacket, The Boss' poncho) and environments (caves etc). During the real-time cut-scene from the mountain overlooking Grozny Grad, I experienced a sort of epiphany / reality check - I mean, coming from DS, that kind of draw distance, detail and IQ is just beautiful. Its a shame they didn't beef it up to Naked Sample quality throughout, but having played through most of the game, I'm very happy with it, personally.

Wow. What the fuck at
the camera during the battle with the boss
. Someone needs shooting for that. I take it it was that bad or worse in subsistence and I just don't remember? Seemed really stupid.

Again, such a great game but Wtf. Also I hated that
EVA escort crap
much more this time.

The Ladder scene......I was like WTF, but then it grew on me. Quite haunting.

Just got to the
Tunnel to Grozny Grad
. I think I might be able to finish it this by this time nex week depending on how much gaming time I get.

Yeah, with The End, I went in without a sniper rifle, then got beaten the first time and thought "God I need to go back to that building where The Ocelot Squad showed up, to get the Sniper Rifle i've heard about off the roof" then I realised you couldn't.......

Randomnly ended up in the area with the SVD though and piced it up, and the battle was much, much easier. Brilliant though.

This is about to take top spot in my 3DS/DS Games played list, and rightly so, it's awesome.

Havent had much time to play this week unfortunately.

Just beat the fury. Thought his character design and backstory was great.

Well I just got this game today. I've never played a Metal Gear before and I don't have any console capable of playing the HD collection so I decided I should just go with this one.

Played until I reached Sokolov. So far it's good. The framerate in cutescenes is bad, but it doesn't bother me that much. Not having a CPP isn't as bad as I thought it'd be too.

Just finished this. My word the last battle, the ending cutscenes, the revelations.....it was so damn good.

That being said, I nearly gave in during during the sequence just before the last battle, the
Eva Escort sequence
was nigh on unbearable.

Best game on the 3DS imo.

Oh god, the amount of times I yelled at the screen when
she'd say she was hungry and she could no longer go on I ended up knocking her out and dragging her ass to the exit and waiting for her to wake up to carry on
.

Other than that bit, I think the game was stellar. I need more, might invest in the HD collection and start on Peace Walker.

Incredible, I have to change my way of thinking when playin this game.

"There is a closed door" "Wonder if one of the guards have a key"
Nope!
"I'll just knock the door" Yep!

I am suddenly angry that I have never thought of doing that!

I decided to get this game

Im really liking it so far, Its the first metal gear i own, and i have to say the controllers work for me eve though i dont use the CPP

The intro its a bit longer than what im used to see in games, but so far so good

Its actually the first thing I do once we get pass the fallen log. That and lay down Claymores behind us as we go forward.

Never even thought of any of this. It's amazing how many different ways there are to do things.

I forgot to remove the transmitter after the torture sequence and saw a funny old scene where EVA has to remove it.

I hate that they have The Boss's tits half hanging out in this version. She's not that kind of woman!

Oh god, I despised that bit. I never remembered it being that irritating the first time I played the game on PS2. Pretty sure if I was playing MGS3 for the first time now, that's the sort of bullshit that would have made me drop the game completely.

I absolutely love MGS3 right up until the last hour or so, but my god I despise those latter sections so, so much.

So gaf, I been playing A LOT . now i feel the need of a Circle Pad Pro,

Is there any way of getting this in Mexico, because i have been unlucky in finding it, and online mexican stores are not getting it.

And also
I enjoyed a lot the Badass intro of the game, snakes arm getting broken and the music made it feel like a 007 movie but better, i just beat THE PAIN. Great fight IMO

LTTP Impressions

This version of the game is seriously testing my nerves, it really slow down to a crawl during action sequences (oh god
Pain's
battle was unbearable, we're talking single digit framerate there, like 5 or 6 fps). What's worse is that controls, even with the CPP, are so fucking sluggish and you constantly fight them to adjust while they slide from left to right like they were soaked in margarine; I find myself fightin over constantly changing aim perspective to find the holy grail of the less crappy of the bunch, like in the
before-Pain Ocelot encounter
which was impossible to play in fpv unless you're ok with being a bullet sponge and just heal yourself... but that ain't fun to me, playing with auto-aim.

It pisses me off, A LOT, because if I enjoy the game like this I can only imagine with butter smooth performance, and yet the new menus system completely resolved my main gripes with the PS2 Subsistance, I love crouch walking and in no way it breaks the game imo, and to top it off the 3D is absolutely AMAZING, freakin' top notch fx which really adds a lot of punch and sense of space that is so apt to the "tactical espionage action". It carries a lot of weight on how I perceive this port visually, it even might be my favourite 3D on the system, I wish Revelations put this kind of effort on the stereoscopic effect. I'd love for Peace Walker to get a (non-shitty) 3DS port down the road.

Anyway, questions:
1) In the barn/armory/chopper area, besides the armory and the chopper are you supposed to blow up anything else with TNT?
2) When interrogating soldiers in that area, you can get 3 radio freqs. One for chilling/reg health, and then one to supposedely call off Alarm (149.16 iirc) and another to call support (144.45 iirc, but why would I call more enemies on me?! I'm def missing something here). Well, I akeays get a "no response" from both, no matter the radar status, how does that work?
3) how the hell do you make mousetraps work? Mouses just waltz over them and nothing happen. And what is the dealio anyway, some kind of easter-egg/cool action you can do with a trapped mouse?

Leave a mouse trap on the ground, exit the area and return and it'll (probably) have caught something. It's how you catch that invisible snake.

What do I do with them afterwards, I mean is there a purpose? And I don't know anything about an invisible snake, where why what?!
If you know the answers to my other questions feel free to help :p how'd you like this port btw?

Roto13

You eat them. :p Or throw them around. Just like anything else you catch. I forget what that snake is called, but you unlock a special camo or face paint (I forget which one) for having one in your inventory at the end of the game.

You can blow up anything you want with TNT, including store houses, which makes the enemies in nearby areas hungry. And the "fire support" frequencies are fun. Try one and see what happens. :p

I thought the port made up for its weaknesses a bit with the new features, but it's basically not really worth it unless you're a really hardcore fan of the game.

Cool, I didn't know blowing stuff up had a persistent effect on the world in-game! I'll look up a wiki, even if I hate doing that, to see where's this magical snake at, 'cause, I'm a sucker for camos and face-paintings. Although I've yet to try the camera-camo feature, not that doable while playing on the throne :p
And I'd love to try and see what happens hitting the support/alarm frequencies but as I've wrote above I always get a NO RESPONSE when I try to use those two :shrugs:

Finally bought this and RE:r for cheaps.... And it only has one save file? Jeezzz, fuckin Konami

Anyway, is the ccpro worth it just for this game? I also have RE as compatible but don't need ccpro for that one

Is this worth it for £19.61?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005FEO2FA/

I recall the demo had quite bizarre controls but I've never played this game before. Should I bite?
I'd say it depends on whether or not 3DS is your only option or not. If it is your option, then yes, definitely. But the game isn't really suited for handheld gaming as the dialogue and movie sequences can be quite long. With that said, the 3D effects are great and it is probably one of best looking 3DS-games. Crouch-walking makes the game a bit less frustrating in some places as well. I didn't really have any issues with the controls (played without CCP) but I can understand why some might find it annoying.

Apparently, Konami is releasing a patch for this game soon. (source: http://www.konami.com/supports/)

Known issue: Save game corruption

Dear Customer,

If you save your game in "Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D" during the battle with Ocelot while the Circle Pad Pro control mode is active, your save game may become corrupted and possibly won't load next time you wish to resume the game.

If you foresee that you will be saving during the battle with Ocelot, please always make sure to deactivate the Circle Pad Pro control mode before saving as otherwise it might be impossible to continue the game. In case the above situation has already occurred, you can delete the corrupted save data and start the game from the beginning. However, we are currently preparing a patch that will resolve this issue and if you are willing to wait for this patch, you will be able to once again use your original save data after having applied the patch. We will make an announcement as soon as the patch is available.

We apologize for any experienced inconvenience, and thank you in advance for your continued patience and understanding.

Kind regards,

Your Customer Support Team

Just picked this up myself, I am a longtime Metal Gear fan, and have played MGS3 several times before, but I felt like giving this version a try. I recently just played Ground Zeroes, and finally played the HD version of Peace Walker. Ground Zeroes has just helped remind me why I love this series so much.

I could play MGS3 on my PS3, because I already own the HD collection on PS3. However I kinda wanted to try this 3DS version, because it does have some of the refined controls from Peace Walker, like third person, and walking while crouched. I do have the CPP XL also, so that'll make it more enjoyable too. I'm not sure if I'll play it right away, because I have been playing almost nonstop Metal Gear this week, but we'll see.

You're probably going into it with the right frame of mind for it. It's the worst version of the game but it's also the most different version so it's worth playing if you want a fresh take on the game.

I picked this up today because I liked the demo, twinstick controls and all. I had to go and pick up a retail copy, but thankfully it was one of the cheaper 3DS games. Even from playing the demo, the simple fact that you have to change your attire to blend in and avoid being spotted piqued my interested right away, and I've always been interested in stealth games, despite not having played any before, unless Deus Ex and DX:HR count. Still, I heard stealth in the MGS series is on a whole different level compared to those games.

So far I've gotten through the first few cutscenes and saved as soon as I could, and the whole setting and story looks quite exciting so far. After Pokémon and several other story-light games, a good, long string of cutscenes that revealed an interesting setting and characters has been a very welcome thing for me. Heck, I didn't even get to do much besides moving around and Snake has already had a pretty deep conversation with The Boss about loyalty and what being a soldier means to her, which I enjoyed quite a bit.

By the way, I've never played a game in the Metal Gear Solid series before, and I heard from friends that I might end up missing out on many interesting things if I play 3 first. Is it really that much of an issue, or can I still enjoy MGS3 now, try to play the other ones later if possible, and then replay 3 to experience stuff I might not have realized on my first playthrough? I have been spoiled a bit about the overall plot over time, but I've also heard it's contrived enough so that I could still enjoy and be surprised by it.

Double posting because I've already gotten past The Pain and just entered the research facility, and it's been a great experience so far. Ocelot's ambush got me a few times, until I realized I had a ridiculous stockpile of stun grenades I used to dispatch most of his henchmen and that yes, I could hide inside the locker despite not getting it right the first few times.

Cutscenes have been interesting and fun, with some tongue-in-cheek moments such as "R to male-gaze" during EVA cutscenes and Ocelot going crazy over revolvers and manual reloading, but I didn't see anything particularily cringeworthy other than Volgin being the most generic character I've encountered so far. Hearing movie-related tidbits while saving has been entertaining as well, especially the second-to-latest one I heard, where Zero gets all worked up about James Bond and Snake not liking the series.

The stealth is nice, and I'm having fun with how I've had to survey areas before making a move to avoid being spotted, even though I've triggered several alerts so far. I've also mistakenly killed a soldier I had knocked out when I made him hit an electrified fence, but luckly that didn't count as a kill according to the Data screen, as I'm aiming for a no-kill run.
